Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

Tony is this the appropriate track for this race?  ???  I have never raced here before - too many cones and high kerbs for me. :scared:  :surrender:  Will have to use a cr*p car if it is.

Yes Bill, it's the right track. You need to master the braking points for the corners to get good lap times here.

Hello to all GTL-ers!
My name is Dmytro. I'm from Ukraine. I'm about 3,5 years in simracing now. I started my simracing way with GT Legends sim at RaceDepartment.
Besides, I had some racing experience with Race 07, rFactor and GTR2/PnG (very little) mod and iR (very little).

For now my main sim which I use in common is rFactor and GTL (when I can found nice company and cars).
Today, 80% of my racing time I have with rFactor Endurance series mod and some with HistorX mod. I like and primarly take part in enduro races (from 1,5 hour to 24 hours races with driver changes).

After that sad moment when RaceDepartment guys stopped to hold RD GTL league I had to change my priorities mainly to rF.
But I still love good old GTL and want to take part at least in some races where there is good company of gentleman racers. I like your championship format (pretty similar to RD) and, I must note, that I like your car choise.
Fact is that primarly I like GTL TC'65 and less powerfull GTC'65 and '76 cars. But I see that people mostly like some "powerfull icon battles" between GT40, Cobra's, Pantera's and etc. I noticed, that more often, people take more fast cars but can't even handle slowest (in my concept of "handle").  ::)

And now, when it's hard to find a good championship on GTL sim, but it's more hard to find a competition between more... mundane cars. So, with some help word of Ross Hawkey from RaceConnect I've found UKGTL and I want to try to race alongside you, guys.

Speaking specifically about this champ, I know a bit Nissan GTR and I want to take it for the the first race. I've never raced at Monaco (as at least a half of other tracks in calendar) and this track is quite specific and demanding for such debut. But I'll try to do my best not to ruin Monte Carlo. ;D

P.S. do I need to do something else to register for this race in case I missed some guides?
P.P.S. sorry for my poor English.

And just to add another name to the list...since my uni course has finished for the year, if all goes well with setting up GTL this will be my first race back! ;D

Normally I'd just pick the MINI, but since it's apparently been 2 years since I last raced I think I'd better have a try with all of them...

Hi Dimetrio, sorry for the late reply but your post missed my attention. Your going to love it here. We supply what RD sadly doesn't anymore. I also was fed up with their endless stream of non-league racing. Perhaps we met on track sometime in the past?

Please try to join our practise server on the Simbin lobby as we prefer to sort out problems before race night ok?

Hope to see you on Monday. BTW we are currently in our Season 14 so our races are prefixed with the code L14.

Here is our full list of series for this year. Hope you like? https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=412&theme=5

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome, i have been practising on the server, getting used to manual pitting and using the speed limiter   im usually an escort addict (see profile sig, yeah dat's me!), but i was also liking the bmw 2002 very cool slidy little beast, and just added the Realmod and update 1.3 (found on these very forums)

Q: Will the password be different on race night from "*********" and ive read as much as my brain will allow me to retain r.e rules and race etiquette, but wondered is there any special rules like on real race tracks, i.e - "overtaking only on the left/right?"  :-[

cant wait for monday night ! ;D

"offtopic" i would like to know at this point is why nobody can ever join a GTL server i personally make, nor does it show the ping, but i can been seen online oddly (me and a mate wanted a practise server to add all the tracks and cars that weve missed over the years, so we can check em out & get used to them) :'(

Several points to comment on here............

Good that your practising the pit-in, pit out procedure. Many don't and suffer for it in the race. But there should be no need to pit in this event. If an event requires a mandatory pit stop it will definitely be mentioned in the race announcement.

You don't need the real mod or update for any series this year. Again if required it will be in the race announcement. Real Mod and other mods/standard cars don't get on well together and will crash the server!

Yes we use a different password on race night. Read the race announcement. You can click on pale/different colour text.

No special rules as such. But good etiquette is chat in praccy, minimum chat in qually and no chat in races except for the odd "sorry", "Thank you" "Pit in" etc. Also gentlemen drivers will wait for their victim to rejoin and pass if a collision occurs due to your bad driving. Or if it's a bad spot to wait/go slow then take a voluntary drive thru within three laps of the incident occuring ( don't forget limiter on at pit lane start). No persistant bad language. Let lappers by. Don't block a hot lapper when you pull out of the pit lane. Think that's it  ;)

BTW your off topic question stands way more chance of being answered if you create a new thread for it, e.g in Chit Chat. More people will look at it there. I'll set the first post up for you. https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12399.msg223067#msg223067

Just tried some offline practice around this track  ;D. Great fun and a real challenge to hook up a good lap and not rip 3 wheels off.

I would expect the mini to be very strong here, but my first attempts made the Commodore just as quick !!!!  I cannot believe those results!! so another session is planned before Monday!!! I confess that I have avoided the mini thus far in these races simply because I have not mastered the different technique that it seems to need....now might be the time to put some effort in ??? lol  ::)

I tried the "Geoffers' " Mini setup and maybe I have 2 left feet and 6 arms, but I cannot control the little buzz box with those settings.

It seems that with the Mingy it is advisable to always keep some pressure on the gas pedal even under braking? , just to keep everything pointing in the right direction?

Is there a database with circuits/cars/laptimes for GTL where I can see what the best laps are  and set myself a target. I don't expect to match any World Records, but if I am 60 seconds off the pace at least I will know that I am doing it wrong somewhere!!  :-\

I like the Geoffers setup a lot. I just can't control the beast with the default. I find brake before turn whilst down shifting then throttle thru and out works best for me.

There used to be a GTL hotlap comparison site but I've forgotten what it was called and it may not even exist anymore. I'll have a browse for it. Meanwhile this site has something similar but not all our cars are included e.g. the KAD mini, so it's only of minimum use. http://www.altbierbude.de/component/option,com_gtlreporter/Itemid,53/lang,en/

EDIT: This is the site I was thinking off. http://gtl.gplrank.info/mchForm

EDIT: Doesn't have mod cars  >:(

With FWD cars you need to make sure the throttle and brakes don't overlap under most circumstances; if they do, it acts as a handbrake as the front wheels are still being driven while the rears are locked. Better to brake - turn - accelerate separately until you're used to the limits of the car. You also have the ability to "drag" the car around corners, as the car will accelerate in whichever direction the front wheels are pointing, not the rears.

I'm using Geoffers' setup as well, with a couple of modifications - 2 clicks more Rear ARB, slightly tweaked Brake Bias (I think I moved it back about 3, since the front wheels were locking with the default) and shorter gearing so I'm just hitting the red line in 4th at the braking point after the tunnel.

While I remember: I was doing some laps on the server yesterday and there are two points that you can, in the Mini at least, go 4 wheels off the track without it warning you. Those being turns 13/14 (Piscine) and turn 19 (the left hand part of Anthony Noghes). You don't really gain anything from it (I was actually slower having cut Piscine), but it's possible to do without noticing - the bumps on the inside of Piscine are too far away from the track for the Mini to hit and the the same with the wall on Anthony Noghes. So, careful if you're pushing hard.

Thanks for the tips on Mini taming guys, but what would be a good benchmark time for it around Monaco??

Assuming that the Mini is THE car to use here ( although I am tempted by the absurdity of using the Commodore as no-one would be able to get past me if I can get it onto pole lol!) and would anyone be prepared to hazard a guess about the pole lap time??

Like Clive I've decided on the Commodore as my quickest car around here - little Mini wheels means I get wrecked more in the Mini.  ::)

My best lap here is 2:11 for what it's worth but I'm no benchmark driver.  ;D

Can anyone offer any advice on how to get off the line in the Mini (on autoclutch) ?

No matter what I try, it's either wheelspin and/or bog down. In a quickrace, I'm being passed by a Mini starting from 3 rows behind me, so unless the AI is cheating, there's obviously a much quicker way to do it.

Cheers,
Erling

I use autoclutch, but have a manual clutch key mapped as well which I use for starts. Clutch key in, chosen revs, clutch key out while managing the throttle to avoid wheelspin - quicker than the "pure" autoclutch way. Haven't tried any starts with the Mini yet though so I don't know the rev range for it.

Bill, sorry, but have done a 1:51.475, and that's NOT the fastest laptime we're going to see, I'm afraid.. ;)

Two points to make before tonights race.

Newbies to online racing. As soon as qually finishes get your race fuel in your car, you may not get long before the race start countdown begins, and you do not want to be left in the garage while the rest are off racing.

Backmarkers and lappers. It will probably be best if backmarkers allow lappers past by slowing and getting out of the way if possible. And lappers, please be patient and wait to be let by slower cars.

Sorry to the race leader (Dimetrio ?) I spun and in trying to turn car around was moving in wrong direction as you came around.  Didn't realise I was so far behind it was 89 seconds earlier when I checked out Xd.  :nono:

Similar issue here with roguk - sorry, I hope I didnt destroy your race, mate.

Great PB in quali for me but race was terrible.

However the Mini is always fun to drive.

Good to see some new faces!

CU again on June 23th - holidays  ;D

Had Tony and Roger's RS1600s battling it out in front of me after the 1st corner and they had a coming together at the right hander before the tunnel.  Entered the blind right hander only to find two RS1600s blocking the track causing me to hit one or both of them.  ::) After that the handling and particularly the brakes were a bit dodgy (pulling right under heavy braking) hence my earlier post. Pleased to see you both finished OK.  ;D

That was scary. I forgot to enable drivers markers and saw your car right after turn, maybe one more second and it could be a crash test. ;D
No problem, Monte Carlo can turn the head of any person.  ;)

Monaco, one of my least favourite circuits both real and virtual. Had low expectations for this one from the outset so decided to use up one of my Escort drives here thereby saving the more natural choice of the Mini for later in the season.
Qualified low and set off in the expectation that I could make up places from the misfortune of others. Duelled with Roger (again) on lap one. I passed him with a sneaky move at Mirabeau only to be re-passed at the Grand Hotel hairpin. At Portier I tried another pass but clipped Rogers RH corner and span him around with me stuck behind him. Fortunately Kurt arrived and the impact of his car collecting ours was enough to turn Roger the right way around and a helpfull nudge from me sent him on his way. Several laps then spent chasing Roger until he pulled out a small lead which took him out of my sight as I went up the hill to Casino square. Here Roger met Kurt who was practising his 3 point turn technique. I managed to avoid both and then pulled a healthy 20 sec lead from both of them. Then due to others taking excursions into Nirvana I was please to net a 4th place and reduce the lead Roger has over me in the Championship table.

Congrats to Dimetrio for a stella debut race with us and commiserations to Geezer for his race no show. Real shame mate as I know you spent a load of time practising for this one. Don't give up on us tho, your not the first to fail to make a starting grid, believe me.

Canada next in this series and the superb Gilles-Villeneuve circuit. Car already sorted, just the setup to fine tweak and I'm good to go.

Next Monday it's another double race session of franticly fast sprint racing. Hope you can all make it, the Fiat 131 is a blast.

Good fun, unfortunately I threw second place away near the end.

Thought I had pole, but Demetrio pipped me right at the end of qually. Hung on to his Skyline for a couple of laps but then made two or three small mistakes & dropped about 5s & into the clutches of Coyote. Had him close behind for several laps but after half distance I pulled away into what looked like a safe 2nd place. But I was a bit late braking into Casino on lap 19 & the rear came around & put me into the inside barrier which flipped the car into the air & into oblivion!  ::)  Race over.

Congrats to Demetrio (great debut), Coyote & Clive.

Practiced a lot for this. Was daunting at first, but after wrecking 15-20 Minis, I started getting the hang of it..  :D

Figured the Mini was the perfect car to out-nimble the larger ones on this tight track.  Found it an absolute hoot to throw it around, although - or perhaps because - disaster was never far away  ;)

A last minute kamikaze lap in qualy knocked 0.5 secs off my pb - and demoted Clive to 4th on the grid; most satisfying  ;D
Start went well, so thanks again to Tibernius for the clutch-button tip.  I slotted into 3rd behind Geoffers and spent the first exhilarating half of the race chasing him.  Had Clive and alternately Tibernius looming in my mirrors early on, but eventually a gap formed, so I couldn't see anyone behind. Got very close to Geoffers towards mid-race, but then he started pulling away, as I couldn't keep up the pace - tyre wear was starting to make itself felt.

Thus didn't see what happened when he suddenly left, and I interited 2nd.  Great shame Geoffers; you definitely had 2nd well and secure in the bag.  Couldn't catch Dimetrio up front, and had noone close behind, so a relatively lonely race from then to the finish.  Grats to Dimetrio on a smashing debut - and to all the finishers. Commiserations to Geoffers and the rest we lost along the way, including Geezer who didn't even make the start  :(

Cheers,
Erling
