Title: UKGTL Season 14 Lawrence Clemo Memorial Trophy - Harestock Park - May 19

Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
Special Notes: None

Lawrence Clemo or LigelC, as most would perhaps know him, raced here and at other leagues in GTL and P&G events. It would be safe to say that his comfort zone was nearer the rear of the grid but his enthusiasm for sim racing was infectious and he made many friends during his time with us.
A nice memory of Lawrence would be this thread from 2010 https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7609.msg134673#msg134673

His last race with us was in March 2010 and he succumber to his cancer on May 7th 2010.

Thanks Tony - nice car beautiful sounding revs up to 10,400 rpm,  :thumbup1:   tracks a bit tortuous and long.  ::) Don't think there will be many finishers!!  ;D

Race announcement revised

After many offs at this track during practise I reluctantly have to agree with Bill, in that this track would probably prove to difficult in these fine cars.

With apologise to any one who has spent time practising at Charade I have now changed the venue to a fast flowing race track that should provide great racing but with much less risk of drivers having Nirvana moments.

Totally my bad, I thought the challenge to drive fast at Charade would be exhilarating but it turned out to be just frustrating. Please try out Harestock Park, I think you will like it  ;)

Thanks Tony but am unable to download from this site without getting a message that my download needs some utility to do this.  Extremely reluctant to do this as this was the start of all my problems with Win 8.

Should be ok for this one. I remember that bimmer being a great drive last time we raced it but the track doesn't ring any bells. Hope to get some pracci in before race night.

We have never used this circuit before. I think it was shortlisted for use in a previous season but didn't make the final cut.

I'll be in the blue #302 car same as last time.

My best time is 1:19.8 with race fuel. Don't forget to use the pit limiter IN and OUT of the pits during your stop otherwise you will get a stop/go penalty.

Quite a gauntlett GT has thrown down; my best lap so far is 1:20.7 - on non-race fuel..  ;)

equipped with spoilers and bodywork designed by Luigi Colani

One of my favourite research sites that one is Kurt.

You would not believe the inspiration for GTL races series that have evolved from finds on this site.

Is this connected to your troubles in P&G tonight?

Does it crash when loading or when you try to drive on it?

Have you tried the NoGrip link that I had to use - see earlier link from Tony in reply to my problem?

No, i did not try that link yet Bill. It has a ati2.evv..something something failure, which looks like graphic driver issue. So i might take the step this weekend and update my drivers first. Or it works flawlessly or i am out of business for the next couple of weeks ::)

Tried the Beemer for two laps on Barca. Seems like a real good racer with lot of feedback. Hope to see you all Monday night.

Edit. It gives a ATI external event utility failure. I ll see if i can work around this utility, otherwise i will update the gfx driver..

Ieks! Tried newer catalyst drivers, which crashed gtlmeven before loading screen. Reinstalled previous driver. Same problem with this track. Beemers runs fine on other tracks btw

I often raced with Ligel in GBGPL races and he was always a gentleman with a great sense of humour, both on track and in the chat room.  I never knew of his illness until after he left us, so it came as quite a shock to discover that he had been that ill and still had time for his simracing and banter.....I hope we do him proud with this race.

Nice track with a great sweeping flow, but  not sure that I see many places to overtake if the car in front is "on the pace". I find that there is only one corner that requires serious braking?  all of the others are just a downshift to check the car and throw it through the apex  for me ;D..... but maybe that is because I am not going fast enough??!!

Can I reserve car #62, coz that is my age  :-\ and just about the only justification I can think of   ::)

Maybe you could check your GTL 3D Configuration. Run the program found under Simbin/GTL in your programs list and see if Shader level is set to Auto?

Thanks for putting this on Tony. Another great track/car choice....and another fitting memorial to Lawrence  8)

Took a while to work out my lines especially in the first sector as the rubbered in parts of the track were way off. Particularly enjoyed threading it through the almost flat chicane and the long parabolic braking zone at the far end. Great stuff  8)

Was dreading the pitstop but all went well. Wasn't sure if others would change tyres but decided I would lose too much time doing so and took a chance on them lasting, which thankfully they did.

Well done podies and finishers.

and well done Erling on a solid second and Roger for third (just)  ;)

Business as usual next week when we travel to Monaco and the MWC.

Sad to hear about Lawrence.  Earlier today I stumbled upon a couple of mugshot wallpapers from the GBGTL and GBSim days.  Only when I looked at the thread Tony linked to, did I realise they were done by Lawrence. (Knew at the time of course, but had forgotten in the 6 years passed since)

Did a lot of practice for this one, and like GT, I just couldn't make the tyre marks fit as the fastest line through some of the corners.  Struggled to break below 1:20 in offline praccy - only managed it once, with a 1:19.9 lap.  Thus outdid myself in qualy, with a 1:19.4, but completely demolished by GT's 1:18.7

Race itself quickly became a lonely affair. Looked like pure mayhem behind me in my mirrors at the start, with cars and bodyparts flying everywhere. GT was setting a blistering pace up front, quickly extending an ever growing gap between us.  Gap to 3rd was growing quickly too, so soon was alone in my own little bubble. No hope of catching GT, and my 2nd place only threatened by my own stupidity, or possibly technical issues, meant the only exitement came from passing backmarkers.  Had a moment when Bill had a moment, hitting the barrier and bouncing back on track in front of me.  Couldn't decide whether to bet on left or right, and ended up on the grass, fortunately without losing control.

Had a bit of a scare when my pitstop approached. Realised my XD display had frozen on the litre display, no longer displaying the remaining laps with current fuel consumption.  Have seen this happen before.  Anyone know what causes it - and/or how to possibly remedy it in-race ?

Grats to GT on another convincing win, and impeccable consistency - only 1/1000 of a sec between his qualy time and fastest race lap..  :o

Thanks to Tony for organising - and for the tribute to Lawrence!

Cheers,
Erling

Really enjoyed last nights race, it was great trying to go flat out for as much of the circuit as possible and achieving a fast flowing line through some of the double apexes was extremely satisfying. Had a good start but as I ran alongside Clive I was nudged onto the grass as he lost control of his car. Matt also became involved but he was able to get going quicker than I so I was last on the first lap. On the second lap I was all over Matt and looking for a good opportunity to try a pass when he drifted onto the grass, lost brakes and steering and had a big wack into the armco after which he retired. Eventually caught Kurt and he went off track too so I passed him and set about reeling in Roger. My XD had died earlier on and wasn't telling me how many laps worth of fuel I had left so I pitted when the fuel warning light came on. Perfect stop for full tank of gas and new front tyres. Set off for part two and only Roger seemed catchable. Was chasing him down for the remainder of the race and was right up his chuff for the final three laps but just couldn't pass the pesky rascal.

Nice car that Beemer.

First of all  huge apologies for the start line blunder!
I nailed the gas in 1st and just lost the sound of my own engine revs in the surrounding noise, then I realised I was on the rev limit so stuffed it into 2nd gear without lifting and the inevitable happened  ??? :-\

Although I might have been able to occupy Erling's mirrors had I made a better start, I think GT was a second a lap faster than I could muster.

Once I found the right line through the first few bends it was quite a satisfying race and the Beemer certainly handled well. I almost did not take tyres at my pitstop, but for some reason I thought  we HAD to renew rubber ....read the rules next time Clive  :-\

Either I am still not reading the fuel left/usage correctly, or I have a faulty fuel gauge, because I though I had plenty of fuel to complete the race and secure what had become a very lonely 3rd place on the podium. The air turned a very definite shade of blue around these parts when the engine died . :cursing: Arnold is about to receive a fuel level sensor in an area of his anatomy that will not be expecting it and certainly not at the velocity with which I intend to deliver it  ::)

Grats to Goldtop on win.
Also enjoyed this race great choice of track and car the Beemer was a joy to drive. Same as others XD stopped working with the fuel so just used normal gauge and pitted when went red, in haste fumbled pit stop pressed wrong keys. Last part of race Tony caught me, but after 30+ laps i was not going to let him pass(sorry Tony for some dodgy (poss) line moves). Love these longer races with the need of a pit stop

Real shame mate, you would have thrived here. Maybe you don't need a whole new PC, just pop in some newer stuff. GTL and P&G are not really that heavy on older systems. Go to Crucial.com and find out what RAM upgrade options are available to you. Also last years best GPU's will now be affordable so have a browse around. It can all help and need not cost the earth.

Yeah, it is the plan to upgrade to a newer, not new system in the near future. The desktop is just a gaming platform so it can't cost the world indeed. And i am in need of a new steering wheel too... ::)
Nice website you are referring to, i will have a look see. However i think i have got all the RAM, CPU and GPU my MSI k7266Pro2 MoBo can handle 8)  Time for a bigger upgrade then.

Like lots of you also had Xd problem.  New PBs all around, good start avoided initial chaos, 3rd at end of lap 1.  After that it went to worms with an off, rejoining in last.  After that had a forced pit stop due to track cutting.  Missed the pits (entrance difficult to see until too late) -  same problem on all 3 pit stops.  Had second stop n Go.  Refuelling stop went OK.  Finished last on track but still the Beemer is a pleasure to drive - well try in my case.
