All tarmac can be used regardless of painted lines, chevrons etc. Keep off the grass and when clipping kerbs keep two wheels race track tarmac side.

Tony, there's two flavors of 904 in the pack, with different power ratings.  Do we have to use both, or can we stick with one variant for both races ?

Cheers,
Erling

I know I have done something dumb, but I cannot work out exactly what!!

downloaded the track and the Porsche 904 files from the race post and thought I would give it a spin around Norisring.

Ok ... select track in GTL...select car in GTL.... open Practice selected..... track loads.....look into garage and see what the current setup looks like.... jump in the car ready to exit the pit garage ......the nice man waves at me to go... and I am suddenly deaf!!!!!    no engine sounds. the car drives OK ( well it travels along the track and the gear changes work etc)

I can hear the wind, the tyres and any skidding noises, but I think I must have downloaded the early hybrid version of the 904. coz it is ghostly quiet!!!

I figure that I must have put the 2 download files in the right place or I would not have a track or car? so what about the noisy stuff? where has it gone?

any ideas guys?

Can you try any other car (not the Porsche 904) at the same track to see if it's a system/software setting problem or the car install.

Also check your engine volume setting under Options/Audio.

Had not thought to try that Tony.

So I loaded up the Mustang, figuring that if I cannot hear that then maybe I am deaf!    That Ford block came through load and clear, and what is even more strange is that I realised that had Porsche 904's on track as well and I could hear them from within the Mustang???

So there's nothing wrong with your system. I would delete the Porsche 904 folder and re-install.

Also check that you have this in your GTL folder

GameData/Sounds/Cars/Porsche_904

lol!!  just been doing that and tried it again. Straight download and install in the GTLegends directory.

Now I have the  904-4 with all sounds etc, but the 904-6 is still in ecology mode and silent........maybe a 3rd install will find the sound files?!! :-\  i'll be back later  ::)

Never liked this short track   ::) - there have been longer version in earlier stages:

http://www.norisringhistorie.de/norframe_strecken.htm (http://www.norisringhistorie.de/norframe_strecken.htm)

Mainly known through Pedro Rodriguez' fatal crash back in 1971.

Hope I can find a suitable setup fot the 904.

Sorry for not getting back to you yesterday Tony (busy praccy for GPL race last night ).

All of those files are in my GTL location. I really am baffled as the 904-4 works and sounds fine and the 904-6 is graphically fine and it drives OK....but not a peep from the engine dept.

Maybe this evening I will just use the 904-4, which I guess is the slower of the 2 and try to beat the living crap out of the engine so that it is fast enough not to get lapped twice!!

I don't think there's a performance issue between the two cars at this circuit.

Very weird problem for sure.  Clive, have you tried the 904/6 on other tracks than Norisring ?

For me at least, the two cars are surprisingly close in performance.  A good lap in the 904/4 is around 1.04, with the fastest so far being 1.03.xx (can't remember exactly, and am at work so can't check). In the 904/6, a fast lap for me is 1:03.xx, with the fastest being 1.02.37.  Getting below 1.03 is very hard work for me.

Bill, thanks for the 904/4 setup. Had to tweak the gearing a little, as I was running out of revs down the start/finish straight, and I dialled in a little more brake pressure. Used this to set my above fastest time in the 904/4.

Cheers,
Erling

Hope to see you guys on track tonight.

I may be doubtful for tonight  :'(

Twanged a back muscle so sitting and working foot pedals may be too much. If I'm able I'll do at least one race, otherwise I'll turn up as a spectator.

I guess the difference is that you take the last left hander faster than me and reach rev limiter that much sooner than me.  I bounce along on rev limiter on start/finish straight but playing around with the top 3 cogs just increased my lap times.  Glad it was of some use.

Ack, that was a royal mess in race 1.  Knew my lucky streak of the previous races had to end sometime.

Race 1:
2nd on grid.  Lost a couple of places towards and through the first hairpin.  Got a whack approaching the chicane, which send me into the armco and down to 9th. A couple of laps later, I was the one doing the whacking. Slammed into the back of Evert at the first hairpin. Very sorry about that. Was off my normal line approaching the turn, and missed my braking point. Managed to catch Tony and Clive too in the incident, so I guess you can say I don't do things halfhearted, when I finally cause an accident...

Waited till everyone had passed and was now 11th and last. Cracked on and made up some places.  Was chasing Roger at one point, who was laying out a smokescreen so dense, I had trouble seeing my braking points at times.  Was catching up to Clive in 4th towards the end, but ran out of laps before I could mount a challenge for it.

Race 2:
3rd on grid. Again lost a couple of places in the first hairpin.  Rubbed shoulders with Roger at the 2nd hairpin and lost another place, now down to 6th. Was 7th at one point, but regained places to finish 4th.  Got a couple of knocks along the way, but none costing me any places. Had some good racing with Evert & Roger, finally making it past the latter, when he ran a tiny bit wide in the 2nd hairpin.  No chance of catching the 3rd place car unfortunately.

Cheers,
Erling

The reluctance of the 904-6 to make any sound, meant that I had to use the 904-4 which I discovered was down on top end compared to the 6 cylinder option. But, what the heck, I decided to wring the neck of the grumbling 4 pot and see what we could do. The primary objective was to avoid being lapped!! well at least not twice! ::)

I was given permission by the entertainment police hereabouts to indulge in some pre-race practice on the server and learn how to muscle this car around.
A Pb of 1:03 in practice, never re-appeared in qually and I started some way back on the grid. Not really a problem as I am still a bit nervous of how GTL behaves and getting in the way of the more experienced guys here.
Watching from behind I could see that the paint sample transfer market was very bouyant and the "enthusiasm" of some drivers was allowing me to pick up places. It was reassuring to see that others were struggling with the brakes ( not the eventual podium guys, they were away and gone!) and I actually found myself picking off a couple of places into the hairpins.

Then a retired kamikaze veteran of many missions  ::) relived his best moment and effectively allowed me to gain 3 places in one fell swoop and I exited T1 in 4th place with a substantial gap behind and about 10 miles behind the leading trio. I told myself.."OK just concentrate on getting a smooth entry into the big corners and don't stamp on the gas and spin it!).
Tony was catching me very slowly at first but I knew I had some reserve pace, so I just kept it safe and steady and let him do the hard work  ;D. I think he made a mistake and then it was Wiley Coyote showing as the car on a mission behind. He was reeling me in a a fair rate, so I had to push just a little harder because some quick mental maths confirmed that he would catch me before the flag :o.
Just to tease Coyote and make things more interesting I made a couple of dumb errors ( deliberate of course  ;) ), but still managed to squeak across the line in 4th.
I notice that it was the top 4 cylinder porker  ;D which was a bit lucky really considering the lack of top end against the 6 pot variety, but leaves a very warm glow.

So when the second race was proposed I got a bit cocky and thought..."I can see where i need to improve the setup to gain a few tenths"...........and managed to prove myself totally wrong and inept!!!! The car was a basket case in the 2nd race and when i spun it in the Esses I had to quit before I caused a road block...probably just as well...should've left things as they were  :-\

Grats to the podium boys, they are still a long way ahead of my ability quotient and I migt never get that quick, but I feel I am beginning to understand how to drive these GTL cars some of the time and I should be able to get involved in some racing soon.

Good night's racing with lot's of individual battles all around the track. Particular mention to Roger and Evert who must be sick of the sight of one another after their spirited driving against each other in both races. My better race was the 2nd but due to two errors at each hairpin, one after the other, I dropped from 4th to 8th. Managed to claw back a couple of places when Kurt made an error and I was a bit quicker than Evert. The replays are great viewing if you have the spare moment.
Who's going to stop the GT machine tho? Volvo's in Sweden next on a more traditional race circuit. Hope your all there  :thumbup1:

Good fun both races, managed out drag Erling at least once, I think being used to the
3 - 2- 1- GO helps  ;D Traded paint with Tony a couple of times as I squeezed past at the hairpins
not too impolitely I hope...  ;) Found myself trying in vain to hang on to the back of Postal
who was just that bit faster, IMHO these cars are not representative of "normal" GTL cars
the braking was quite challenging to get right, and I had to compromise the setup a lot
to make it so I could get into the hairpins without losing it every lap.

Had to put some time into sorting a setup for this one as getting in and out of the hairpins quickly was so crucial to a good lap. The faster setup did however make things more difficult to control, so I'm glad I was able to get through both races without any pirouettes.

Sounds like there were some good battles throughout the grid  8)

As a retired kamikaze....

I can only apologise for my woeful efforts. At first I couldn't touch the brakes without the car spinning. Finally found a brake balance that meant I could (just about) keep it in a straight line but I did find once or twice that stamping on the clutch is not a very effective way of stopping. Not sure I can bear to watch the replay.

By race two I felt I could give Bill a race and for a few laps I could and then I outbraked myself (again) and lost ten seconds. He maintained that gap brilliantly but I can definitely feel a bit of a rivalry growing, which I hope he is enjoying as much as I am.

Once again, apologies to anyone I pranged. None of it was intentional and I will try and make a better job of staying out of the way next time.

Paul, I don't know what kind of pedal setup you have but perhaps adjusting the in-game pedal sensitivity might be beneficial?

Yes I enjoyed last night much to my surprise by the last race I was full of confidence and was really banging the gears through both up and down the box.  Found in practice that the engine was very robust and it was better to brake too soon and over rev into the corners than over shoot and damage the car.  Yes BadBlood I thought I was destined for last place, as your qualifying time was much quicker than mine.  As I've said before I find that with a clutch pedal I can control my start much better and usually get a flyer, I think I got into the first corner first and after that you were closing up on me constantly until I saw you over shoot the first left hander after that I just drove hard for the whole race trying to let overtakers through with the minimum loss of momentum on my  part.  Set a new PB in the second race but it was still slower than your best race lap.

The first race I avoided Erling and his collection of casualties and got up to 5th I think but got a tap at the first left hander after a few laps which caused me to spin and lose about 10 secs.  Put my head down and chased Badblood soon caught and pasted him setting a new PB in the short battle we had but was lapped twice by leaders and once by most of the rest of the field.  (Only lapped once by  podium drivers in the second race.)

By the end of the night I think I appreciated your excellent track/car combo Tony - with practice and acquaintance the track was rewarding but extremely tiring.

Look forward to the next event in this Series - think we raced Volvo P1800s in a previous Season and I have a suitable setup if my archive system works.  Next week is an old faithful Spa with Sports Cars - that'll be hairy.

None of it was intentional and I will try and make a better job of staying out of the way next time.

lol Woz-it-U in the white headband??  I had no idea who it was, I just saw a car flash past on my inside when I already thought I had maybe overcooked the last of the late brakers move  :o At first I thought it must be one of the aliens coming back after an "off" and showing us all how it should be done!...but quickly noted ;) that perhaps this particular alien was headed for orbit and not the next straight. I don't think you were the only one, I am sure someone had arranged a Kami kaze veterans reunion and people were throwing themselves into the party.  ::)

Wow enjoyed both races, great track car combo. ;D
Apologies to everyone for all the knocks, nudges and paint scraping in both races. :-[
Race 1 did a stupid 3rd to 1st gear change spun the car into railings, engine didnt like it oil light flashing and car putting out lots of smoke (sorry Erling) then had some good racing with Evert.
Race 2 nudged a car off at hairpin (sorry Erling again) tried to keep up with you but lost control and dropped back, then had some more great dueling with Evert.

Grats to Podiums.

Lol no, I think that kami-honor befalls me Clive     Found it a difficult track, even in solo practice, as it offers few or subtle visual cues as braking points.  In that instance, I was not on my usual approach-line to that corner, and thus missed those subtle cues.  Tried desperately to brake, locked wheels, and before I could release them and try to steer past poor Evert, I had already collected him - and Tony in the process.  Sorry again guys.

Do hope you'll stick with GTL Clive - then even after a disastrous race like that, one can at least look forward to your race report

Good fun both races, managed out drag Erling at least once, I think being used to the
3 - 2- 1- GO helps ;D

Hehe, now that really isn't much of an accomplishment, considering I'm probably the worst starter in the history of GTL  ;D
Very familiar with the 3-2-1 system, just can't for the life of me figure out how to best get off the line.  Maybe I should consider getting me one of them clutch pedals of which Bill speaks...  :)

Cheers,
Erling

...and then it was Wiley Coyote showing as the car on a mission behind. He was reeling me in a a fair rate, so I had to push just a little harder because some quick mental maths confirmed that he would catch me before the flag :o.

LOL, I was doing the exact same math from the opposite end  ;D

Managed to overcook it a few times in the corners - you know, once you smell blood...  ;D

Cheers,
Erling

Quickest starts I make, and I am not famous for fast starts either, is with the clutch, put it in
gear then drop the clutch or release it gradually to keep the revs up

I live in two places, and only have a clutch at one PC, this one doesn't have a working clutch
so I just held some revs and selected 1st I had auto clutch for this event, as I found the
downshifts were spinning the car with manual clutch.

That's basically what I do too - your non-clutch method.

I might be hesitating too much at the countdown, but will rather be 0.5 secs slower off the line, than getting a jumpstart stop-n-go  :o

Erling
