(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=420&theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

Special Notes: Note earlier race start time than usual

Goldtop won the first two rounds, will he increase his points tally here?

Doh!!!  I should read the race posts and rules more closely.....

I thought that there was only a single "official" race at each circuit and that the voting for a second race was just for a fun run. It transpires that there are 2 races at each venue lol!!!  Should have stuck with the 2nd race and maybe netted a few more points.... ah well, at least it gives Goldtop a fighting chance now that he has a lead??   ::)

Tony have a strange problem - don't know if it's a problem for me but although I've raced the Volvo before it doesn't want to show in the eligible cars list for this track or a number of other tracks.

Down loaded, a number of times, from our site and installed a number of times.  I can buy cars and see them in my garage (3 different cars purchased) but I can not find any them when I try to drive one.

Advice please!!

Had hoped to race here but GTL seems to be one pace forward and one back.  Tony has been giving me advice in his usual help full way.  Need to sit back relax and try and sort out methodically.  It'll be the weekend before I can find sufficient time to put to this important job.

Great to hear from you Bill.

I had read about many UK homes having lost power after the last storm, and wondered if you might be affected.

Do you have the PC back now, and with dual-boot option ?

Cheers,
Erling

Thanks Erling for your concern, very lucky at Burnham on Sea. Our little bay has its' own little micro climate protected by hills and Somerset and Welsh headlands. All latest storms have arced around us.

Have PC back but not dual boot, I've only got the older drive connected - newer drive, with Win 8 and all my programs is unavailable. Spent ages sorting  IP home page emails etc, also my old copy, on USB memory stick, of GTLDK download for GTL. Tried to rush it but have problems which indicate to me my copy of GTL is corrupted and Direct X 9c is missing - hence  need  clear my weary old brain for a while and try and sort out over weekend!

Glad to hear the storms haven't affected you Bill - hope the same goes for the rest of you UK'ers.

Sorry to hear about your ongoing computer problems.  Wish I could help, but very difficult without 'hands-on' possibility.  You are aware that DirectX is up to v. 11 now ?  Probably best to get the newest one (Although, if you're in an XP environment, the highest IS v. 9, as far as I can tell).

Cheers,
Erling

Tony (and others  :)), I've been wondering: Do we have an official 'present yourself' / 'face to a name' thread somewhere in the forums ?

Have been looking around, but not found anything.   I think it would be nice to know just the basics of my fellow racers, like age and profession etc, now that I 'meet' up with you guys every Monday.  Anyone else feel the same - or do you know each other (too) well already ?  ;)

Cheers,
Erling

Thanks Erling, checked and have Direct X 11 installed.  Have obtained new copy of GTLDK and intend to install and go through step by step tomorrow morning when I'm fresh.

Indication of missing storms here at BoS, cut the lawn this morning.  Grass box was still dry inside - no fresh cut wet grass stuck to it after I finished and started to clean up the mower.

Good to hear your computer probs might be coming to an end and that things in BoS are drying out a little, Bill.  ;D

Your lawn must be looking a lot better than mine!! and I am only just a few miles up the road in Bristol. I definitely could not describe the area of grass that I have as "lawn" anymore, the rain has run off the garden and literally cut channels through it washing away soil and grass. I have seen better looking construction sites!!

Methinks some re-turfing will take place when (if) the ground dries out, probably some time around next September???

Glad to hear you're sorting things out Bill and that you've managed to keep your feet dry  ;) Just had a few pracci laps and can report that weather was nice and sunny with no rain or snow  :)

Funny little cars these and they don't handle at all like they look unless I have gone totally wrong with my setup. Back end seems to want to bite you at every opportunity  :o

Note that in-game fuel usage seems to be way off and that you'll likely need at least 24 litres to complete a 12 lap race.

Still have a problem, talking this morning to neighbour, met out collecting paper. Software Engineer at a local power station he suggested a Win 7 quirk which stores and keeps program setting and gives it to you instead of allowing you to make your own setting.

This appears to be case with GTL as I get same useless setting now every time I try to run or make my own setting.  Anyone experienced this and know how to sort out before I go to neighbour?

What settings and where, In GTL?

Also try googling questions because you can bet your life whatever your experiencing, someone else will have had it too and probably found a solution.

Bill, I had a similar problem when I replaced my videocard recently - with the resolution settings.  No matter how many times I set the desired resolution; each time I started the game, it reverted to 640x480.

Solution in my case was to set the program; GTL.exe (or was GTLConfig.exe ? - not sure anymore) to run as admin.  Both mine are set that way and that solved the problem.

You should find both in the GTL install folder, and the setting is found in the 'Compatibility tab': http://www.google.dk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=zYAnD6Xm5F-qNM&tbnid=5Lh48d-siPPKFM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.howtogeek.com%2Fhowto%2Fwindows-vista%2Fusing-windows-vista-compatibility-mode%2F&ei=ATcKU9f_Osv_ygOJjIGwCA&bvm=bv.61725948,d.bGE&psig=AFQjCNFTdjd1aVCWJDkSbrc91ra-D53g4Q&ust=1393264767554526.

What settings and where, In GTL?

Also try googling questions because you can bet your life whatever your experiencing, someone else will have had it too and probably found a solution.

To start with all worked OK until I registered on line and got into the lobby of the default (German Server).  I selected a free site and got onto it OK, it worked initially but then I was dumped.  When I got back I tried to drive again but none of the foot pedals or gear change paddles would work.  I exited GTL and then I checked in the  Logitech Profiler and all the G25 controls worked OK - am using the latest download V5.10.127 which is Win 7 compatible.

Went back to GTL and opened up Options and tried to reset the wheel but as I tried to setup the functions and as I went down the list of functions the setting of some of the earlier function selected wheel settings were changed to - - and the foot pedal graphics in the bottom left hand corner showed the foot pedals were not operating.  I exited and rebooted the computer and tried again.  After repeating this procedure 2 or 3 time I could not even change any settings at all in Options Control.

Spent time this morning - see earlier post reply to Erling without success.

Sorry it's so convoluted Tony but initially I tried to keep it simple.  As it seems to be possibly linked to the G25 Wheel I've looked on the Logitech website (www.logitech.com/support) but not been able to find out any answers.  Any thoughts?

Leave you to your racing Tony.  Will try and get hold of my neighbour (software engineer) tomorrow and see if he can do anything.

Sorry to hear this Bill; had high hopes my idea would help  :(

Not sure what to suggest; tried googling for problems with GTL / G25, but difficult to describe it, and didn't find anything that sounds like your issues.

Would you happen to have a backup of your earlier, working GTL folder, or perhaps just your .PLR file (found in player subfolder of UserData folder) ?

If you do, you could try and simply copy it on top of your current installation, or replace the .PLR file with the older one.  With a little luck, that might restore the earlier, working settings.  You may have to remove write protection on the various folders to do this.

Best of luck and hope to see you back soon,
Erling

It was a fun couple of races, I'm getting used to these races since I'm new here, had a few battles but I still don't have the skills yet. But it was really fun,

Sorry Clive for the hit on the chicane but I waited for you then all of a sudden you disappeared from the screen.

Cheers guys

No probs Chmichel, I was pretty much de-motivated by then anyway and I was about to quit.

I had enjoyed pushing the P1800 around a nice circuit and managed a respectable ( for me ) practice lap time on race fuel in the 1:35's.  Then I had my balloon well and truly popped when Goldtop rolled up and hacked 4 secs off my best time!!!!  :o

I could not see where he would get 4 secs!! I fully expected to be maybe 2 secs off as I am still struggling with setups and driving of these cars. But it all became obvious once the race started ...my car was way down on raw speed on the straights and everyone was just running away from me??? In the 2nd race Postal recovered from an off and came past me on the main straight at such a pace that I got out to see why I had stopped!!! He must have gained 200mtrs on the straight alone and in a supposedly identical car.

SO!!...... I did discover that these old Volvo's have a 3 speed gearbox in the first few laps of offline practice , not exactly on the first lap though where I was still upshifting to 4th  ::).  The only big thing I can think is that I was using the wrong final drive ratio? , but I had the engine just hitting the max revs at the end of the straight in 3rd which I thought would be ideal.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Grats to the podiums and the pace of the fast boys.

My car definitely had a 4 speed box so I think your final drive was set too short.

@ Bill - do you want my player profile file? you just change the file name to your name and the password? It's set for a G27 but will probably be the same. If it works you could then tweak the other settings to suit your needs.

WOT!!!??? I deffo only had 3 gears and I tried a couple of different final drive ratios. In each case 3rd and 4th showed on the setup page as the same gear ratio? so I assumed that it was just a 3 speed box??!!!

If I should have had a 4 speed box I wish to claim back 10 secs a lap as a handicap and demand that I be given the points for a win. Crikey!!, I dont feel so bad after getting a 1:35 with only 3 gears!! lol

Sorry Postal lap 3 and paint swapping end of race also Sorry Chmichel for several taps on your car.

Could someone poss help on chat setup so i can apologize in race (my keys 1 to 9 do nothing on line apart from key 5 which moves what gear i am in across screen, also lower 4 buttons on wheel g27 do nothing on line on track but in chat when pressed get numbers 6 7 8 9) have tried logitech profiler and JoyToKey.

Yes that was unfortunate... especialy as i had the setup for race 2 to give GT a run for his money. Wel these things happen in racing. Though i expect you to pay the body work repair bill on my classic Volvo!

Race one went ok, but got it wrong into t1 at some point. Could manage to hold on to third. After some setup tweaks it was a great drive and manged to knock more then a second off my pb. After the first tap In race 2 i had to regain some positions and had some big scraps with Roguk, felt like every lap was the final lap. Swapped position several times but he managed to keep the door closed in the final lap. Nice combo Tony, ty.
See you all at Spa.

Didn't have high expectations for these races, as the first round in the series weren't exactly a smashing success for me.

Surprisingly I ended up in the best position I can hope for with Goldtop present, in both races, so naturally chuffed about that.

In the first race, I gradually worked my way to 3rd place, mostly from others falling off at various places. Had Postal in front in 2nd, and he was slowly edging away.  For once luck smiled on old Wile E though, as I suddenly saw Postal in a dustcloud at T2, as I came out of T1.  Thus found myself 2nd roughly halfways through the race. No chance at catching Goldtop, who was so far ahead that it borders on ridiculous, so focus was to hang onto 2nd.  Postal was reeling me in again, but not at a rate to cause anxiety attacks, although he was getting close as the race finished.

Bad qualify for race 2, as I was nowhere near my offline pb. Managed to go around the phone-startled, stationary Roger (mental note: get hold of his phone # and initiate call exactly at future race starts..  ;D).  Next narrowly avoided a spun Postal at the start of the long straight and found myself in 3rd. (Very) soon passed by Goldtop in his blast to the front. Later passed Tony who had fallen of. Then followed a long, intense chase of Evert. Very slowly inched closer, matching my pb in the process.  Late in the race, I sailed into 2nd when he overshot at the end of the long straight, and I managed to hold that position to the finish.

Again had to scrape jaw off tarmac over Goldtop's speed.  What's your secret mate - are you a setup wizard, do you have extra high midichlorian count or super professional gear, or is it just the rest of us numbnuts who're a bunch of snails ?

Sorry to see Bill absent for yet another race. Do hope you get the problems sorted soon.

Cheers,
Erling

The track that the lobby is expecting you to have is Nurburgring 1970's version. Because you don't appear to have that track installed the lobby shows the expected track as a default circuit, not the correct mod one because it is confused. Ignore Dijon, we are not using that track. Check your Gamedata/ Locations folder for a sub-folder called 70Nordschleife. If you don't see it, you don't have it installed.

Good fun last night with a very enjoyable car/track combo. Enjoyed the challenge and extra pressure of picking my way through in race 2 and managing to keep it all neat and tidy for both races.

Well done all finishers  8)

@Erling.....no pro gear here, just a standard dfgt with half a squash ball stuffed under the brake pedal   I use paddle shifters and don't use autoclutch which can allow swifter gear changes on some cars but means that I need to take more care downshifting.

I don't consider myself much good at setups and don't spend much time on them, other than I like to make the car feel nimble and get it reacting quickly which usually means stiffening it up a little. Works on some cars better than others.

I've spent a lot of time on ffb settings which are pretty lightweight and which I've adapted from PnG. I've also made a few tweaks to my controller settings to ensure there are no deadzones. I run a realistic FOV on a closely set 27" screen to give that in the seat feel.

As for technique, I do concentrate on being smooth and braking lightly and early which allows me to get on the throttle much sooner and get me through the corners under control. I suppose this is the classic technique which probably explains why I struggle against the aliens who have learned more advanced braking techniques. It does however have the advantage of making me more difficult to pass as I'm quick out of the corners and helps me to be consistent (usually :) )

Glad to help

BTW I have headlights on/off button as top left on my wheel, you may find that easier/better? My wheel top right button centres my Track IR

Hi Tony that looks interesting, watched the demos, great for side views,is it poss to turn the forward back movement off and just allow side orientation (turn head left/right)?

Yeah, you can configure it to do pretty much anything. I just use the default driving setup. You soon get used to it and nowadays I don't even notice I'm using it until I try to drive without it switched on.

Midichlorians... must be the midichlorians... ;D

Joking aside; thanks for the insight GT.  Your dfgt appears closely related to my dfp, so curious about the squash ball; how does that work ?
The bit about smoothness I can recognize - often found in GTL that if I stop trying to be fast, and focus on being smooth instead, laptimes often continues to drop anyway.

Have noticed the advantage about no autoclutch; many seem to use it.  Tried it myself once, but didn't like it - spun when downshifting, and didn't like the fact that the cars all sounds like they have automatic transmission..  :)

Bill: what a bummer  :(  Did you try any of the last suggestions from Tony and me ?

Cheers,
Erling

The half squash ball just gives the brake pedal a bit more feel so that you're pressing against something instead of just moving a volume pot. Works on the theory that it is easier to modulate pressure than it is to remember distance the pot has to rotate and makes braking more consistent. DFP has same pedals and it's just a case of cutting the ball in half (though I believe some use a whole one  :o) and squeezing it under the brake pedal to limit the amount of travel. I also have some screwed up paper at each side to stop it moving around (very sophisticated  :)).

I'd like to get some G25/G27 pedals sometime (not bothered about the wheel as I prefer the dfgt) as there are some better mods available for this than the squash ball method.

Bill, we want to help you but your problem description skills need some honing mate.

Best of luck and hope to see you back soon,
Erling

My earlier post was an abridged version of my efforts.  When I switched on my computer first I had to install my Wi-Fi printer and G25 software using the installation discs.  On installing the G25 I was surprised to see that my original wheel Controllers/Properties/Settings showed my original Rotation Angle (420 deg) and the other settings as I had used before.  (When I subsequently downloaded the latest Win 7 compatible version 5.10.127 it showed the Rotation as the full 980 deg with the other settings blank.)  I thought it odd but as I said in my earlier post I tried to rush things.  So I copied my Season 14 installation from my USB drive and tried it but it didn’t work.

I uninstalled it and did a new installation using my original GTLDK files, again from the USB.  What happened then I posted earlier on this forum.
Since then I’ve tried changing the PRL file and making a copy of the new installation and overwriting it with Season 14 installation all with no success.
Have made an appointment with my neighbour for tomorrow night so here’s hoping he knows what to do.

Will keep you posted.

@ Bill - do you want my player profile file? you just change the file name to your name and the password? It's set for a G27 but will probably be the same. If it works you could then tweak the other settings to suit your needs.

Thanks for the offer Tony, will wait and see what happens tomorrow night.
