Title: UKGPL Season 25 (2013) Works Trophy (67) - Laguna Seca - Nov 24
Post by: Phil Thornton on November 21, 2013, 11:02:56 PM +0000
Season 25 Works Trophy, Round 9, Laguna Seca

Welcome to the ninth round in the Works Trophy.  This time we cross the pond to visit our american friends in sunny California.

Laguna Seca was built in 1957 after the nearby Pebble Beach Road Races (another track used by UKGPL) were abandoned for being too dangerous.  The first race, held on November 9, 1957, was won by Pete Lovely driving a Ferrari 500 TR Sports Car.  Several Trans-Am races have been held at Laguna Seca but Formula 1 races were never held there.  The track has frequently been used for motorcycle races most notably the AMA Superbike Series, World Superbikes and MotoGP.

As always, we will run Pro Damage, so resets are not allowed.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_GPG
IP address = 62.195.2.111
Race date = 24-11-2013
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
Track = Laguna Seca (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=9284)
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 44)
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Replays Available here (http://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/inc_replaysS25_js.aspx)

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=401&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the bottom of the Cork Screw. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=401&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Managed to keep it clean until the corkscrew. :/

Despite being (what I thought was) careful, I still managed to entangle myself in the haybales, then did the crab-walk back across the track (collecting no one else, thankfully), collect the car and my thoughts, get going again at the tail of the pack only to have the engine go off (story of my season :( ) in the bext few corners.

Limp a sick Brabham around 13 seconds off the pace long enough to collect a few more retirement promotions then it gave up the ghost for good lap 9 (I think, whatever).

Maybe I should go back to Privs...

Why why why :taz:

In a safe 4th place with 12 laps to go and I lost concentration for a couple of seconds and drove into the straw bales at the pit entrance.  Stuck like a fly in treacle  >:(

Grats to the finishers!

Silly mistake. I led the race after Clive's Lotus decided to become an elaborate paperweight and remained leading until 5 laps to go. That was until I braked too late into one of the corners and lost the back end, ripping a wheel off. That's the second race this season that I've thrown away a potential win. A pity as I was so close to the flag. Congrats to all finishers.

Well Sam at least you managed to complete 90% of the race, my Lotus detonated after 9%!!

I had spent a couple of hours ( in 15minute slots ) over the weekend playing with the Lotus. I realised that I had a bucketful of tokens and no chance of getting any meaningful position in the championship....so why not have some high speed fun?? I have not used the Lotus for absolutel ages and had forgotten just how nimble it was ( compared to the Honda!!! lol)

I was well aware of the reputation that the Lotus has for frailty, so I set the gearing to upshift at 8500 rpm. My only worry was that I could not get 1st gear high enough and found that I needed to short shift into 2nd very quickly. Anyway I did not suffer a single blown engine in all my trials, or in qually so i thought that I had things sorted.
Qually was done on race fuel, so I knew that I should be fast enough to compete at the front and that once the fuel load went down low 1:06's were quite easy. Tyre temps were my biggest problem as it took at least 2 laps to get any heat into them and even after pushing hard for 10 laps or so they would still be blue??!! I cannot understand that??!!
I was careful off the grid, trying to protect the engine and Tris whipped past in his Brabham. Unfortunately he ran too deep and too fast into T1 and started chewing the polos, so I regained 1st place.
I was tip toeing around the first lap waiting for some grip from the tyres and still managed to ease a few metres from Sam in his Eagle, so things were looking good. Then going down the hill after the corkscrew someone tossed a grenade into the engine and it was all over :-\.
Quite disappointed to go out so early and in such a way. I always thought my years with the Honda had taught me to look after engines, but maybe this was one of those GPL random interventions ( I prefer to think that that is the case, it makes me feel better!!)

Grats to Tris who obviously recovered from his 1st lap off to take the win and commiserations to those who also tripped up.

Congratulations Sam !

You are, at 99,99%, our season 25 Works champion.

I am the only one mathematically able to win this championship, if this is not you.
But with 29+19 (my 2nd worst result) = 48 points less than you, I must win and you should not participate at the next race ...or be DQ :)

Did OK, but made a mistake at the Corkscrew and ended up spinning the car around such that I stood on the brakes to keep it still as cars went around, but one car did not manage that feat and t-boned me good and proper. Pushed me the right way around and got going again, but I then lost it a few laps at the 2nd-last corner's exit and overturned the Honda. Was starting to get to grips with the Honda around here, but still felt dreadfully slow! Congrats to Tristan on winning and Sam on (nearly) clinching the title!

well Phil...realy hard decision in fact !....if there is contact ( not shure at all ,after looking the reaplay, for me it's a lag or bug or warp, because, if you look the reaplay's Andy whith the rear-suspension vues, you can't sees any contact at all !!) , Andy don't loose the control and don't go out of track...of corse I' m surprising of the early breaking of the ferrari, but I manage it quite well and I don't block any wheels. If I had made a stuntended, I had wait for give back is place to Andy ( as I use to do when the car goes out of track or do a 360°)....for me it's only a very very little race incident.
.....what Andy think about ?......the incident have been reported ?....??

Tristan

The incident was reported and you should have received a PM inviting you to respond.  Without your input and client replay to consider I have to make a decision based on the reports and replays available to me.  I understand your concerns.  You are entitled to raise an appeal to the Chief Moderator (via a PM).  If you do so please attach your client replay if you have it.

Regards

Phil

Sorry Phil, I 'v changed my e-mail but forget to change it on UKGPL...... :-\.........so I don't get the report....never mind, it's a little late now, but I load the UK reaplay and it's exactly the same as my reaplay.......there is no contact at all ! :angel:.......and I don't anderstand how Andy can reclaim , I was around 2s faster per lap in the race( Ifinish one minute in front of him ), so I logicaly will overtake him very soon, and the "bug-lag" don't change anything to the final result ( you can see that Andy was very consistant during the race after the "bug-contact" ) and his lap time during the race prouve that the car was ok.....in the end he finish second and that is a good result I think....so is not very fair to report this incident to gain a place that you cannot gain in race !.......
......and I take 2 PP for that !....... ???
to vainquish whitout peril , one triumph without glory :-*

my new e-mail : [email protected]  ;)

Hi Tristan

I'm absolutely certain Andy would not want to win because of your misfortune.  We all want to win on our own merits.  The decision to award a penalty was mine, nothing to do with Andy.  I needed both client replays and the server replay to make a decision.  The incident reporting system notifies drivers when they have been involved in a reported incident but in order for that to work properly your profile must be updated with your current email address.  I've checked on your profile and the registered email address is [email protected] which is probably why you didn't get notified.

Please update your profile and submit an appeal to Badblood, he will look at the incident again.

Good luck at Estoril tonight.

Regards

Phil
