Go on Clive, give the Mini a run, you know you want too.

Only if it's quickest!   :P

Our test department can do great things with the Mini but looking at that line up, I would guess that the Alpine will take some beating.  Not sure about the Alfa though.

Happily we are in a better state than last time when we were carrying a deficit

If you are a regular contributor, thank you  :thumbup1:

I'm curious to see, what the TR4 can do. My guess would be, that it's a winner here, but it feels as if the TR4 V3.2 is a little slower than V3.1.

Well my TR4 dies after one lap so I can't tell you.

I've had no problems with cars dying but the TR4 is the slowest of the four cars for me by quite a bit. I have the Alfa and Alpine on almost identical times (a quicker driver will be able to extract more from the Alpine than from the Alfa I think), followed by the Mini and TR4.

TR4 sorted.

I was using a v3.0 setup, which for some reason causes the car to overheat and die in about a lap and a half.

Once that I created a new setup all was fine.

A little off topic.. but:

I will likely post next weeks sports car final tonight, and, though it's probably the easiest series to manage
does any one have any particular preference for the final of the Limited Choice (Spec race) event
Any particular car (s) and track? If it's a two choice for the car they need to be identical times at that
track, and tested for that.

I will be away for the next two weeks down in London so will miss these last two events annoyingly
but I should be able to admin them as usual.

GT40s at Dijon, silverstone or Paul Ricard or Le Mans  :)
E-types v F250GT somewhere  8)
Cortinas or E types at Brands hatch
Ferraris at Mugello
Cobras at Sebring

Can't make the season finale of the Brit champ this week unfortunately  :'(

We already had sportscars (including Cobras) at Sebring earlier in the year.

How about Elans at Brands (full circuit)?

GT40s at Le Mans sounds good ;D We always used to have an end of season race at Le Mans in GTL, so how about keeping it up here in P&G. Mk2s & Gulf Mk1s should fit the bill nicely. Maybe up the fuel usage & make a pitstop necessary!

Ummm, well we might be getting GT40s next week.... do we really want them the week after as well?
I could have another go at Next week easy enough. Gt40s at Le Mans with an enforced pit stop perhaps
sounds reasonable, not everyone likes stops, but it would not be as long as the endures.

GT40s at Le Mans would be a fitting end to any series of PnG imo (although they're not my favourite car). The earlier VLM track version would be my choice as it is just so immersive.

Would the Vette Grand Sport keep up?

1:31 in the TR4 for me

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 British Historic Cup - Goodwood - Dec 5
Post by: NPP on December 05, 2013, 11:15:41 AM +0000
That's better than I can manage in the TR4. However, while I was online briefly yesterday, I saw Giuseppe do a low 1:29 - don't know what car that was in but I've never even come close to that with race fuel and hard tyres in any of the cars.

I'm still not sure which one to drive - probably the Alpine is fastest for me but it's also slightly dangerous. Alfa is the next fastest and safer option. We'll see ...

General feeling seems to be that the Alpine has an edge in the right hands, though we had several Italians
in Alfas last night, at least two were under 1:30  :o
I like the TR4, though it is a bit slower than the others, If I want to keep up then I will probably use an Alfa
if I want to have more fun I will use a TR4 as long as there is someone to race with.

I can't say that I am all that keen on a GT40 race at Le Mans. The VLM track looks fantastic, but races at Le Mans always end up being rather boring (at least as far as I am concerned). Lotus Elans at Brands Hatch sounds good though 8)

The week after will be "something else" The ELans at Brands or somewhere similar idea appeals

Great turn out and some very close racing at many places in the pack. I had some real grown up wheel to wheel stuff

I picked the Alfa thinking that I was less likely to fall off in it than in the Alpine. That was probably the right decision as I made up a number of places because of Alpines falling off. Otherwise it wasn't an eventful race - I was overtaken two or three times and got the places back when other people went off track, I didn't make any major mistakes and matched my best practice time but that was still disappointingly slow - where can I find a whole second a lap?

Yeah, that might have to change if the Soggies are to try and compete with our Italian friends!

Grats Kerbies :thumbup1: Thought we might be able to sneak this one back, but Geoffers was very fast in the Alpine :o

Very eventful this race, lots of fun swapping places with Giuseppe, Frederico & Alessandro. Was quite surprised at just how fast the Alpine was in a straight line. I was expecting to be able to out-drag them in the Alfa and sit in front of them in the corners, but as it was those little blue cars seemed to be able to pass at will on the straight!

where can I find a whole second a lap?

Dunno, but let me know if you find it - I'm still looking for half a second to Donato ;D

Think it was me Bob and as you say it was not your fault.  It was another TR4, that had already hit me once at T1, which then completed the job properly on the approach to St Mary's.  My car was also bent and it was at that same point on each lap that it gave me the most problems.  So much so that I had a right job trying to get past Matt in his Mini.

Congratulations to John on a well earned crown and grats to the Kerbies for nicking one of our cups.  ::)

I did tell you John that the Alpine was quicker on the straights, so long as you geared it to rev its nuts off!

I didn't see any distracting chat messages at the start, only the automatic ones about how many drivers have yet to join. I noticed that I couldn't see the lights from my spot near the bottom of the grid so concentrated on the timer instead

Something about the lights i think. No matter what or when in the race the chat is forbidden. That's what is written in the rules. It happens every time and that's why i'm mentioning it. Lots of people always write something before leaving which is disturbing for me. :) BTW Sorry for the contact in the first lap NP

If someone leaves the race before it's finished, the game will automaticly generate a chat message saying "Flash Gordon has left the game".

I don't remember how, but I'm pretty sure, you can turn off ingame-chat somewhere in the options menu.

I agree completely.

Don't know what it is about the phrase "No chat messages in the race or qualifying." but some people just don't get it.

The only messages allowed in the race relate to pit stops so please don't use "Sorry" in any form or "Thanks", that's a really annoying one as you never know if it was a genuine thanks or a sarcastic "Thanks!!" for messing things up.  By the time that I have pondered on who might be falling out with whom I can be half way to my own disaster.

Flashing headlights is normally enough to say thanks for letting me by or "I have seen you and you can pass without fear!"  Except for me and Bob who probably didn't have a headlight between us.  In which case you all had to guess as I didn't utter a word.

Nope, it was the one sent on Sunday that said:-
Interesting.

The Alpine owns the straights but the Alfa is stronger in the corners.  This might just be that the Alfa setup is so stable that it gives more confidence to push it a bit.  On the other hand, it might mean that I need to look at the Alfa gear ratios again.

Clive

You did your bit John, it was unfortunate that both Ivan and I had a duff race.  I think that Stig was the next Soggy in the running but he had problems as well.

:D Yes i can see that. I'm sure you know what i'm talking about. Last messages i remember yesterday were "LOL". I'm sure it's not generated by the game :D But that's not the only case as i said. I agree that it's my problem that i'm watching it but in the rules is written that the chat is forbidden during Q and R.

First congrats to John on a well deserved championship win. :notworthy: Also well done to all my Kerbies teammates on pinching one of the Soggies cups, well plundered!  ;D

Good race from my point of view. Had a great run in the Alpine, harrying Donato for the first few laps until a mistake at St Mary's let Giuseppe past. Got back into 2nd a few laps later when Giuseppe copied my mistake then had a good battle with him for a few laps until his attempted overtake at Woodcote bumped me onto the grass & I dropped back to 4th behind Federico. The three of us then had a good battle for several laps until both of my opponents got on the grass exiting the chicane & left me in a fairly comfortable 2nd place. Cut Donato's lead a little over the remaining laps but I was never gonna make up the deficit even if the race had been 10 laps longer.

Congrats to Donato on the win & to John in 3rd place.

I was expecting the Mini to be considerably slower than the Alpine and Alfa, but it was not quite as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, I seemed to be able to keep pace with the Alfa on the straights, and even close the gap using the slipstream if I was close enough. I had a couple of enjoyable battles with Alfa drivers (firstly with Legzy until he spun off, and then with Animal Ed later on). I was struggling to keep pace with Animal Ed towards the end of the race, and then I ran wide onto the grass as my tyres started to show signs of wear. I completed the last three or four laps on my own, but I was happy enough with P11 as I didn't expect to have any chance whatsoever in the Mini :)

Quite an exciting race last night. I never seem to do very well at Goodwood but it was my first time in the Alpine (I think) so maybe my setup also contributed to me feeling so far off pace of those at the front. Had some good dicing but made too many little mistakes compared to those around me.

Congrats to Donato for the win and to Geoffers and John for the podies  8)

Well done John for winning a hard earned driver's championship....impressive stuff again  8) Well done Kerbies for winning the team championship and denying those soggies a clean sweep  ;)

Thanks to Matt for his continued efforts in organising these events and to Alex for those lapcharts  :thumbup1:

Chat in Qual or Race ist verboten. It is potentially distracting for people in the heat of battle.
It is "normal" for a few messages of good will while sat on the grid like "GLA" etc, but once the race starts we prefer silence
even if you knock someone off, it is expected that you will say nothing and then wait for them.
I sometimes want to shout "Sorry I shoved you off, but for Cod's sake hurry up and GET BACK ON THE TRACK so we can get on with it"
but that would be errrrr  "inappropriate"

I made a comment on the grid to try to warn people about the lights at the right that are not race start lights but pit lights
but it came out all wrong, hopefully it didn't confuse people too much, watching the timer start is always a safe option on these
add on tracks.

I will fix the minis that are no longer in Gr2, in 3.1 they have moved some cars into sub groups that didn't exist in 3.0

I made the mistake of watching those pit lights at the start of the race, which resulted in an even slower start than normal. Thankfully, it didn't seriously affect my position. As for chat in race, I am used to saying "Sorry" or "Thanks" elsewhere in league races, so my apologies if I did this last night.

Post by: phspok on December 06, 2013, 01:23:52 PM +0000
It is polite to say Sorry etc, but some people find it very distracting so we encourage silence.
It's not a hanging offence to me, it's just that if you are in mid braking or trying to avoid another car
it's off putting to have messages flash up on your screen. Some people turn off in car chat for that reason.

That seems like a sensible approach Matt. Having witnessed at first hand another league, that was good fun to take part in, slowly have the joy sucked out of it by the constant introduction of rule after rule, your approach is definately the way to go (IMO).

Yep. My real life racing is going through some rule changes created by well meaning people who are rather missing the point.
I can't do aything about the Gr2/G5 Minis, the Britax is in once as Gr2 and again as Gr5
Alex has kindly produced a list of cars, perhaps we can send it to Dave?

Yeah.... tough race!

i didn't thought to be in pole.........so it was a surprise to be first with the Alfa.

Only a good start would gave me a chance to win the race, so for the first laps my concern was to colse every doors to Geoffers, trying to get away in the corner. Twice Geoffers was almost inside, but i've gently colsed him..... Then Geoffers went off in the grass, same thing with Reali and Zecchin.
In the second half of the race a couple of lapped drivers made me lost some seconds on Geoffers, but i've maintained a sufficient gap to win the race.

See u!  ;D

Very funny race!!
In qualy i achieved a very good 4 position.
But during the race, after a couple of laps, i totally lost the concentration.
in 4 laps i went off the grass 2 times and i lost 3 positions.
Finally, my pace arrival.
Beautiful chase with johnw and federico zecchin...but they was faster than me >:( >:(
Finished the race in 5 position.
Is a real pleasure to drive with you mates on tracks...thank you!!

That was about as good as racing gets in my book. Says the bloke that finished 12th

Had some good racing with Mogget & a couple of other drivers, but then enjoyed almost endless laps with Matt. Don't think we could have been much closer at times, but don't think we traded paint once despite being side by side & bumper to bumper through litterally a hundred corners!  :sweatdrop: 8)

More please.
