Title: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: BadBlood on December 23, 2013, 04:04:38 PM +0000 Season 26 - Works Trophy
The division specific rules are basically the same as last season. Works will run as a completely separate division from Privateers. This season drivers will need to complete 50% race distance to score. Please check the Season 26 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=424&theme=6) regarding rules and the Works Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=427&theme=6) pages in particular. The races will be run as follows:
Provisional calendar as follows:
The provisional calendar may be changed at the discretion of the Divisional Moderator. If you would like to enter this series please submit an entry in the poll. Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: MagicArsouille on January 01, 2014, 07:01:53 PM +0000 hi ;D

Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: GregT on January 05, 2014, 12:27:13 AM +0000 Should I register with Works or Privateers?
Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Phil Thornton on January 05, 2014, 12:50:34 AM +0000 Should I register with Works or Privateers? Greg, have a look at the lap times for the privateers last season (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=402&theme=6) and compare them to your times. If you are faster than Cookie, Hendy or Andreas then please register for the works. If you are a similar speed you'll be OK in the Privateers.Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: BadBlood on January 05, 2014, 12:58:07 AM +0000 Having seen you drive Greg, I suspect you are Works class.
Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Rainier on January 05, 2014, 12:55:14 PM +0000 If you are faster than Cookie, Hendy or Andreas then please register for the works. If you are a similar speed you'll be OK in the Privateers. Phil, Cookie and Hendy are way faster than you and me ! Andreas is the season 25 Privateers champion Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: GregT on January 05, 2014, 03:48:17 PM +0000 Here's my thoughts on the subject. Being my first season I might ought to run Privateers. I like the minor differences in the Privateer schedule better. And if the Privateers need more drivers, I don't mind helping to fill the grid. I'm thinking I'm a little faster than Cookie and Hendy but I might just be having delusions. And if I get on a roll at the Nurburgring, it might be pretty ugly what I do to the Privateer division. The unfamiliarity of five of the tracks may slow me down some but with 8 laps of practice before the Privateer race at Estoril I dropped almost two seconds from my qualifying time during the race and almost matched Hendy's fast lap. I used my Zandvoort setup with some minor camber changes. Tuning the setup and some more practice there would have dropped my times significantly.
There's nothing about the Works division that concerns me. I'd likely be one of the slower cars. I'd rarely, if ever, get near the pole or fast lap. I might get some good finishes through consistency and attrition. The greater challenge would probably help make me a better driver. Prior to getting online recently, I had been running full length Grand Prix and Can Am races. So I do have practice with realistic damage and long races. I'd like to join the Works division unless I'm needed in Privateers. I'd also like to let everybody else help make the decision. ba-deep. ba-deep. ba-deep. ba-deep. That's all folks! :) Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Ronniepeterson on January 05, 2014, 04:01:16 PM +0000 Works or Privateer? You asked for help so here are my thoughts below.
Greg a Privateer :o :o :o :o Greg a Privateer :D :D :D :D Greg a Privateer     Greg a Privateer     Greg a Privateer     But at the end of the day its your choice. Good luck. Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: BadBlood on January 05, 2014, 04:38:58 PM +0000 You are Works Greg... go for it.
Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Phil Thornton on January 05, 2014, 06:41:06 PM +0000 If you are faster than Cookie, Hendy or Andreas then please register for the works. If you are a similar speed you'll be OK in the Privateers. Phil, Cookie and Hendy are way faster than you and me ! Andreas is the season 25 Privateers champion In season 25 there were 22 drivers registered for the Works but the grid varied between 11 and 15 drivers. If Hendy, Cookie and Andreas (they shared the majority of race wins) all moved up and Greg, Robert Fleurke and Tristan join the works then we probably have too many works drivers. But if that is the case who moves down? Without Hendy, Cookie and Andreas the rest of the Privateers would have a great fight for the championship and a lot of fun in the process. Who, if anyone, should move down from the works? It's true that you and I are probably the slowest but the championship positions don't reflect that. You finished second and I finished 7th. Whoever moves down from the Works will no doubt be a strong challenger for the Privateers title. So we have to be careful if we move anyone down so that we don't ruin the championship for the remaining privateers. I suggest we wait a little longer until the registrations are complete. Then we will know if anyone needs to move down or if Hendy or Cookie should move up. As the champion Andreas definitely should move up. If we can't accommodate you, me, Hendy, Cookie, Andreas, Greg, Robert Fleurke and Tristan in the works then perhaps we should think about moving a block of drivers down. Filling up the Works and leaving one fast driver to dominate the Privateers would be the worst scenario. Moving a block of drivers down would at least produce two competitive championships. Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: maddog on January 05, 2014, 10:18:31 PM +0000 Some wise words from Phil. Encouraging fast drivers to move up, isn't about punishiment - it's about providing them with good racing. A minority of racers are only interested in 1st place. Most are interested in dicing for a well earned result. I suspect most would like to see a worthwhile quantity of cars on the grid.
Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Arf Arf Arf on January 05, 2014, 11:31:37 PM +0000 Just a heads up on Baab in S26. He will want to be in Works, but can't register at the moment. He moved into a new house in early December and is still waiting on the incredibly inefficient german** telecomms service connecting his phone and broadband. He's worried that he might miss the first race (maybe 2 if he's really unlucky).
Arf ** spot the two words you don't usually expect to see in the same sentence ;D Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: BadBlood on January 06, 2014, 12:28:49 AM +0000 "incredibly" and "German"? ;D
Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Arf Arf Arf on January 06, 2014, 01:11:00 PM +0000 Correct BB. Baab could not be described as incredibly German, not with that impenetrable Lancashire accent of his....
;D Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Cookie on January 06, 2014, 02:39:56 PM +0000 Why not have a split in the Privateers of light and heavy?
I have not yet understood how to setup these cars to have a comfortable drive... I will not race in the Works as I am far away from driving save and constant and I don't want those compliments again I got after my first try ::) So if there will be a fair way to drive 67s for me I will join, if not, no problem ;) Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: BadBlood on January 06, 2014, 04:05:17 PM +0000 The split of Light and Heavy is really best suited to smaller championships where we can't generate the grids to justify an extra server (e.g. F2s) I think the Works and Privateers are fairly clearly defined. This is all about having fun and I certainly do not have a problem with you running in Privs again.
Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: maddog on January 06, 2014, 06:45:01 PM +0000 I think, if the fastest Privateers are too fast, they'll discourage newcomers from racing these. So either more fast Privateers are needed, or less. 2 or 3 only, is not the best situation to be in, IMHO. :P

That's what made me think about it... Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Robert Fleurke on January 06, 2014, 08:11:42 PM +0000 In these sort of situations NL.GPL used to use GPLRank as an indication to put ppl in division 1,2 or 3 depending on their chassis' choice. Or take finishing/safety rating into account.
Hope everyone will get accomodated to their liking if it's possible... Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Iestyn Davies on January 07, 2014, 02:32:17 AM +0000 Following my inauspicious return to UKGPL (a startline disco at the Keimola Santa vs. Elves race), I would like to rejoin D1 (in old money). Let the works battle (first for places!) commence!
Looking forward to Solitude, Nurb, classic tracks and a new track in Borovaya, the only downside for me being Brands over Kyalami (personal GPL preference!). Cool calendar for a championship overall. 8) The new token system should be interesting; I can remember having some of the most thrilling GPL races with the pit stops (strategies of pushing in stints, trying to think and see how close it will be at the finish etc.), but now it will be a championship battle over the whole series of races (not that it wasn't before). Take that, double points! I would back Robert's solution for places, but also taking into account consistency and reliability, skill in all 7 cars and reliability for making races. Then, of course, fitting this to the 2 division model, so that one doesn't turn into a domination like we witnessed in late 2013.. :-X Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Phil Thornton on January 07, 2014, 05:59:27 PM +0000 Welcome back Iestyn :)

Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: BadBlood on January 08, 2014, 10:32:18 AM +0000 Depends on which Priv you ask Hendy ;D
If you promise more disco's like at Oulton I am very happy to see you in Privs, otherwise.... ;) Title: Re: Season 26 Works Trophy Registration Post by: Cookie on January 08, 2014, 01:35:51 PM +0000 Last nights race made me rethink my decision to not race in the works...
