Season 26 Privateers Trophy - Round 3 - Nürburgring

"The Green Hell" need we say more?

We will run Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

For Season 26, all drivers must complete at least 50% of race distance to be classified.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=426&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to Flugplatz. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=426&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Ah, it IS tonight!  Luckily,  lack of pre-event practice will make no difference here (for me anyway!).

ADSL permitting,  I'll try to be like the tortoise tonight :)

Good race for me but I must confess the ring is my favourite circuit.  I was quite pleased with my qually time but it was only good enough for 5th.  Grats to David on a solid pole position.

The race was always going to be about making the least mistakes.  I made a few but not as many as most so I managed to creep up to second place by the end.  Only Andy in another Cooper got the better of me.  Well done Andy, intelligent driving ;).

At one stage I was following my team mate Martin when he completely disappeared for a couple of corners.  I think we reappeared on the same bit of track because I was bounced off the circuit.  Thankfully I could continue without a reset and the car still had all 4 wheels and they seemed to be pointing straight.  Hope you were OK Martin.

Ouch. Last time I did an actual race here was in Novs, a couple seasons back. Granted, I've spent more time on Nurb than perhaps any other track and I really do love it. But while I set a PB during preparation with the BRM, I was not as prepared for a live race as I thought I was.

First I ran someone off the track in qually. Then, I turned into someone on T1 and had to reset and then found new ways to bounce off the grass walls and damaged my suspension fairly early on. Crummy ping times made the rest of the race rather strobe-y though I hung on until the last lap, putting the BRM into a hedge from which there was no return

Ah well, hopefully I won't have to wait too many seasons to run it again.
Grats andy and podium and the large number of racers who actually crossed the finish :D

Billy, my apologies for the slight touching of wheels at the start of the race into the first corner; I suddenly found myself in an overtaking move I wasn't really planning on.

Billy, my apologies for the slight touching of wheels at the start of the race into the first corner; I suddenly found myself in an overtaking move I wasn't really planning on.
No worries. Perfectly capable of messing up my own performance.
Early off bent the steering slightly & made the car difficult to control at the one track you need all the control you can get. Bernie seemed to have similar problems & we traded places. Sorry about the contact after the Karrusel - car came down off the bank far too quick (can't call it a rejoin, more bouncing off the scenery) but I should know better.
Took a Shift R & which made the handling better - for about half a lap until I found a hedge.

Glad to see the back of the back of the Nurburgring one for a few seasons. Too long to learn it properly.

Apologies due to Diego. I welcomed him to UKGPL with a T1 rear end shunt.

He was quite slow away and then I was quite cautious behind him and I suddenly found him getting very large and slammed the anchors on. Speed difference of 4 mph at contact and his car exploded.

Sorry Diego.

Apart from that had a race long battle with Phillipe. He was a bit quicker I think but it was the spins that decided it. At one point he span in front of me and I biffed him amidships putting him round the wrong way. That probably made all the difference. The 'ring is hard enough but when you have a noisy Frenchman buzzing at your mirrors and Prib show +0yds it is VERY difficult. Hope it was clean enough Phil. Last lap managed to catch Pierre who had been a long way ahead and just managed to keep it clean to the line. Never been so glad to see a chequered flag....

I'll lose the places anyway :( for T1 though.

Bad luck for Hendy who we passed whilst he was having a picnic and especially to Mike who managed to lose a wheel in the final bit of armco which cost him a place (I am sure nobody was watching though Michael ;) ). Congrats to all the finishers, we showed the Pros how to do it, although the on track statistics are not the best I have ever seen.  :D

The action started for me about 15mn before the beginning of the practice when GPL refused to load. I jumped on my 60fps install, switched it to 36, transferred my setup and here I come to qualify .  I got disconnected before the Adenau bridge and I would not have bet a cent - sorry, a penny - on my chances to finish the race. It was the only unpleasant event of this evening !   Well, in fact, you might add being passed by Badblood at the end of the very last lap but the guy has no class, he keeps doing the same thing to me on a regular basis as if I would care .  No sir, I'm quite able to keep my "Poutine at the Olympics face" like a big boy !

Paul, between us,could you please find a way to finish a race without putting so much pressure on my delicate and overall nice person ?

LOL Pierre. You will get the place back in the Steward's room I suspect.... mind you I am modding this series....  ;D

You will be glad to hear I won't mod my own incidents though!  ;)

Seriously, I am very happy with my race.  I was surprised that it took so long for you guys to catch up with me. Hendy and yourself are the only ones who passed me. I see that many drivers in this league love the Ring. I love it too . My first contact with it was Neubauer's book when I was a kid. Somehow the circuit likes me, too. Year after year, that's where I get my best races.

Up until now, my races here have been awful but although I span a lot it was the first time I felt comfortable. I had never broken 9:30 here in a 67 before practising for this and got down to a 9:05 in practise. Beat that three times in the race! In the past, I have just been too impatient. Boy it takes concentration though. Bedtime for me <yawn>

Sorry Diego.

Don't worry about that! I was really slow because I was afraid the first corner!  Anyway, I was able to continue in the race and it was very fun to me! I had some good disputes for positions... yet in fourth lap I hit again and this destroyed my car  ;D but was a good first race here!

But guys, I've had a sad problem in GPL mode online... When I came near other car, it look weird... The image of other car start to hold, and suddenly vanish and appear ahead in the track... I never had this problem in offline mode... Somebody can help with that?

See you at the next race!

That is what we term 'warp'. It can be quite alarming when a car appears and disappears like that but you just have to drive your normal line and speed. Weirdly, the other driver can usually see you all the time even though he is invisible to you.

Some good times in qualy. At the start Martin came up alongside and I was cautious not to contest T1. Then I followed his magic disappearing car at a safe distance. A few times he looked like he was having a big off and then his car appeared suddenly back in the middle of the track again. Near the end of the lap he really did have a big off and I was through to 3rd. In the 2nd lap Jonny spun on the first Karussell and was patient enough on his rejoin to let me past, but he was close behind for another 2 laps. On the 3rd lap Dave spun in front of me and I was lucky to use the grass and fence to get by. On the 4th lap Jonny had a big spin and I started the last 2 laps with a big gap back to 2nd, so the race was now mine to lose. I had to concentrate hard to not just keep watching the gap on prib and just stay on track. Well done Phil on coming through in the Coop. I find the Cooper is so comparatively solid and easy to drive it is the best bet on a survival course like Nurby.

Well I thoroughly surprised myself by making it that far. I chose the BRM in anticipation of an early retirement but managed to extricate myself from numerous encounters with the banking with only one previous SnR (and that on the last lap).

It was good to see fellow Soggie Bernie back on the track (at least for part of the race)

I'm looking forward to Zeltweg and some proper racing rather than an endurance test. Hopefully there will be another full grid.

I enjoy a 'Touch of the Nurbs,' now and again.  It's the fictitious track that defies fiction.  Umm . . .  doesn't it?

My car seemed sorted, so I gridded towards the front.  Then kept the leader in sight for most of the first lap.  Leaped the big leap nearing it's end, and unceremoniously headed for the hills! ::)

Laps two, three, and 4 at the same spot, the same navigational quandary arose.  I had become, a regular deviant.  This situation led me to clip a following bridge, and some minor damage was done.  Thereafter, the race remainder was run, as a deviant with a slight limp, so settled for sixth.

The race replay reveals, I'd a very poor race connection.  I'm relieved to see, a collision with Phil cost him, only a few seconds.  Race reports at tracks I've not attended, are also suggesting issues with the signal.  I'll have to stop racing, if this causes me to become a serious road hazard. :-\

I encountered a massive warping in the beginning of the race myself, even with the rock solid connection I use to have...

But I am happy for my first Nürburgring race finished without a SnG! It also made my 67 rank negative ;D

I just wanted to survive this race, so I was extra carefull and had no intentions to fight... ::)

Sorry for Hendy, who did not realize my car inside T1 and lost his podium chances there.

It doesn't get any better than this. The most challenging track on our schedule, and also the most fun. I chose the BRM because in practice, it was very durable, and still drivable after the steering was bent. My first lap in qually was representative of my overall speed. So I parked it, and watched my competition. The race start was chaotic, and I noticed several cars appeared out of thin air, but luckily, they were in the grass at the time. The race ensued, and I had learned the track well enough that I could recall upcoming corners and the gear that I needed to select. I was lucky again when I narrowly passed Dave C's spun car. All went well until the fourth lap, and I collided with Diego's spun Ferrari. Sorry for that Diego, I tried to move slightly to the left to miss your car, but that was the wrong thing for me to do. After the shift-r, Dave C. passed me, and we both performed our S&G's at the same time. He remained in front for the rest of the race. My driving became more sloppy on the last lap, but I was able to bring it home. Congrats to the finishers and commiserations to the rest.

It felt good to be back with friends old and new and those not so old and not so new . As for the race , bit of an anti climax for me , a bit of racing , a bit of spinning , a bit of crashing . It seemed each time I gained an advantage due to someone else crashing out I followed suit soon after in the best copycat tradition losing more places than I had gained . This game of snakes and ladders came to an abrupt end when I became firmly stuck in the hedgerow and was unable to extracate the BRM . at least I went out in stile .

At one point in the race I managed to T bone another car who was rejoining the track , havn't seen the replay yet so not sure who was at fault,  if anyone ? My apologies to driver X if I was wrong  :-\

Surprised to find It didn't take long to get the hang of things once more ( bit like riding a bycicle I suppose )  but the big shock was finding how much those trees have grown since my last visit here , must be all the rain . Could hardly recognise the new track in places and kept getting lost , not aided by me sitting so low down in the BRM cockpit that It was difficult to see the road ahead  ( must bring a cushion next time )

Thanks all for the fun , grats to the podium boys and all who finished and sorry to anyone I upset in my travels .

P.S. had to s/r at one point then forgot all about my S and G  so took it on the next lap,  hope this was within the rules , otherwise please endorse my radio licence  ;)
