"Twenty one today, twenty one today!"  I'd rather it was the 21st.  ::)  EDIT :  A week without a race, could have one feeling weak!  :P

What a drag! One of the highlights of this series was driving the 712, one of my favorite cars. You guys are gonna make me learn to drive the Porsche it seems. I've got some time in it at The Ring and Spa so hopefully I can get it up to speed quickly. If I have to change cars again I'll likely drop the sports cars and can ams. It's too bad there's not enough days in the week to run a Can Am series. When I get the M8F going well, I can do some pretty good Hulme and Revson impersonations.

Ford GT Mk 1 and Porsche

Porsche and  Lola 222

You're having a laugh, right?  There's precious little power or mayhem in those choices.

I know you all think that I am being overly mean when handing out the horsepower, but I can only be guided by the relative laptimes and results of previous races.  The intention is always to give the Heavies a shot at the podium.

Before you all shout, "but there are only a handful of Heavies anyway!!" I am aware of that but I still hope to attract some more drivers into the series, otherwise it all becomes a series of "spec" races for the Lights.

More importantly I am trying to promote close racing for everyone of all abilities and things WILL be adjusted as the season progresses to try an keep things interesting....but it is all based upon results so adjustments happen slowly.

I'm one of those rare specimens, who jumps into IGOR when I see a practice Server up.  I practiced alongside Sergio last night, with what I thought was a very good setup - he was 3 or 4 tenths faster!  So I'd say, if Clive does not want Heavies winning races, he's hit the mark perfectly. 8)

if you give a racing driver some racing room, he's apt to want some more.

The main thing for me is always the time each one dedicates to practice. It is the man, not the machine (said Chuck Yeager when he met the Abbeville Boys over France). If I don't remember bad Hristo has won a race in his little Porsche 910 while all the other drivers were racing with much more powerful beasts at Montlhery me included !

Ok!!  well you asked for it!!!  ::)

For the next round of Can Am races and the Elite drivers in the Lights category, I will donate my own hybrid transport for their use.... Boasting a massive 35cc 2 stroke engine with unbelievable power and speed that will almost ( but not quite) cause your hair to waft about ( if you have any??!!)

A bicycle is much more easy to drive than some of our beasts and maybe...Evil likely wants for lights that they will see the finish line as well as the green flag instead to see the rest of the race hanging from a tree or on a wall !  ;)

When I was racing the GPFun championship, several times I got the pole or a RBL but it was for me a big problem to see the finish line and this happened also here in the PSC championship otherwise I should have won the PSC sooner than I did.

I like the system, it causes some cars to get used which wouldn't normally. So thanks :) .

Having said that, I think the token system as used in the Graduates Cup is excellent, and I'm all for including it in every division, especially this one :) .

I was given this little piece of transport by one of our customers. It is apparently of German/Swiss? origin but actually came from Australia where they are very popular. I am still trying to resolve some issues with the carburetor as it does not want to run on tickover.  Which is why they gave it to me  :-\. lol
With an automatic clutch it makes stopping at junctions a bit dicey, as you have to keep the engine revs high ( and the beast still trying to go forward) whilst holding it against the brakes and not stalling the damned thing!!  Playing with the carb is like doing micro surgery, I have seen bigger candle wicks!!!

It is a "work in progress" project and I hope to have it running this summer....then we have the road legal hurdles to negotiate.  ::)

Hi Clive its a Saxonette engine.

Maybe this video can help to fix the carb issues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3HE3lal-Sk

It's in german, but I think helpfull pictures, how to restore an old longtime unused engine  ;)

PS
Quote
..it does not want to run on tickover

- this sounds like it's getting "wrong air", solution shown in this vid  ;)

Trade it in for some Rollerblades, Evil.  It looks like a death sentence with handlebars.   8)

I'll quit whining. I do hope I can finish out the season in the two Porsches, 166, and Lotus 49, except if something better becomes available that I want to drive.

I understand what you're doing Clive and you seem to be getting closer to giving the Heavies a decent chance. The MS84 and 712 were rather dominant. With the crappy power-to-weight ratio of the 917, there's nothing slower to assign us? I'll have to retire if I'm forced to ride your bike though.

See you later at Snetterton!

It looks like I have four PP's. That means I have to do a stop and go in the Can Am race? I don't have to in the GT race do I? When do I do it? The first time around the track?

This may be overridden in the meantime (IANAM), but if you haven't yet got a PM telling you to do so, don't.

Yeah, I'm confused Dean. I got a PM that says,

"The moderator's report for an event has been published which you should read because it involves you.

It may be that you have been found partly or wholly to blame for an incident, or it may simply be that the moderator wishes to give you some advice about your driving or racecraft.

In any case, please read the report by going here.

Thanks,
The SRou Moderators"

When I click on the link to read the moderator's report it takes me to the race report and there's no info there about what I'm supposed to do. I just don't want to be DQ because I'm ignorant.

The In Series penalties are unlikely to be applied to the Friday series Greg. There is no auto penalty and it relies on me scanning the championship tables but at the moment you can take it that there is no requirement. Try not to get any more penalties though!

The message you got was a standard message you get whenever you are mentioned in a Mod report.

The report is not yet official and having checked you will actually get two points, the four was a data entry error.

Sorry Paul for the touch in the GT,an error with the gear.I have had all the problem with my PC this night.
At first a screen freezing during the GT qualification, than, exiting from the GT race,a change in the screen resolution and to finish another screen freezing in the canam.
Enough!

 :) :)
Congratulations to winners and all .

Gt race:
quite lonely nice cruising with my GT40 MK1.
Having a look at GPLrank before , clearly shows that this time, at Snetterton over Lime Rock Park, the Porsche wouldn’t be a choice for the lights.
Strange but maybe due to the fact that there are no uphill section at Snetterton.
Or its simply track programming…

Internet connection:
Got an freeze during end of GT qually. By luck I managed to join in back in time.
Got an freeze in front of last turn last lap.

CanAm race :

Qually P4 0,3sec slower then my PB, nice…
Start nice
Yellow pingpong car in front , I slowed down to get free , but my car kept on slip and sliding everywhere as long any cars were ahead.
As I did know by offline practise with AIs, I know that these effect wasn’t based on aerodynamics downforce simulation. So I quit the race. :(

Internet connection, red bars :
Since I did changed from XP to WIN7 ( 1 year ago ) my read bars appears pale. More grey then red and seam to don’t move at all.
So I cant see if connection quality suffers or not.

However: what are the specs of Ukgpl 8 server ?
wonder why GPLRACER server are set to 3/84 3/132
and Brasil server to 3/84 3/384.

Must say I didn’t had have any connection quality probs in the past.
But start too think, that maybe these settings 2/ 2/ do no good the moment number of drivers with less good connection quality do join .
Could be plane bullshit, lol.   :D

The specs of Ukgpl_8 server are
- DSL 16000
- AthlonII 250 @ 3000MHz 4GB DDR2 RAM

The settings 2/ 2/ give a server-client feedback every second frame -> 18 times per second.
This reduces the spikes of the GPL crashbox and make races like the last Pro Monza possible!
These "old" 3/84 3/132 settings were aimed for 56K modems in 1998!

My races

GT was fine, except the start, where my long first gear let me fall back to 4th and Mark was gone...

CA was not as good, as I made a last second change for the race that made my front tires melt after some hot laps...

Grats to the finishers in both races, there appeared to be some good racing going on especially in the GT Porsche fest!!!

The GT race was great fun with many laps dicing with Ronnie  ;D I thought it would go down to the last lap and demon braking for the hairpin, but Ronnie kindly gave me a nice gap about 2 laps before  ;)

The Can Ams were a disaster for me. :(        Mark Twain once said that "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. Its what you know for sure that just ain't so."  those words were ringing in my ears after 1 lap!!!

 1) I did that thing that you should NEVER do......modified the average setup that I had in qually in an attempt to improve things right before the grid. So wrong in so many ways!!!! Car was an absolute monster and after 2 big offs in 1.5 laps I quit.

 2)  I bought a new office chair today ( the old one suddenly dropped down on Thursday evening and left me peering over the edge of the desk :o ). Very comfy, nice leather upholstery, high back but with castors that actually roll on the carpet!!
The old chair had simply lost the will to move and was very stable, but the new one wants to roll back each time I apply the brakes................... ::) which was not helping my control of the car. I think there will be some mechanical interference with those castors before the next race!!!

A very good pair of results for me, the GT's were quiet, but the CanAms were more exciting.  Mistakes by others allowed me to get to the front and hang on till the end, but man I miss the big shouty cars.

After connecting in GT practise I didn't test my wheel, and was left with enormous FF, way too heavy  ::) Decided to try to finish the race anyway, which I did, holding off Rainier...
