Title: UKGPL Season 26 (2014) Friday Trophy - Aintree - Mar 14
Post by: EvilClive on March 11, 2014, 08:55:24 PM +0000
Back to the UK and an historic circuit...Aintree.

UKGPL has used this track for F2's before,  but the 69x's will be a different and novel challenge around here. The long straight will favour the more powerful cars but the lights will be able to show their superior car control around the twisty sections to regain lost ground.......the final few corners could prove decisive  ::).

A single Shift R is allowed but no SnG is required.

Well,  maybe the free-chassis choice can help re-address the talent balance :)

Couldn't quite match my previous best in the F2 lola;  so maybe I should have taken that instead.
Again, hadn't driven 69 round here until qually;  but I find they are basically same as the F2 really.

Admittedly, I could have done with putting race fuel in my lucky setup [not that it worked round Solitude!];  and as a result missed the flag;  so started from the pitlane.

I was probably unfortunate with the subsequent placing,  because the server then placed me over the start-line in the pitlane.  I think that is why I don't remember being lapped...  otherwise, I think I'd have ended up in 5th as I finished between DR & GT,  although I guess race distance was then a few yards short.  ho hum.

Still, was good to get fired-up when it was all to do from the start & following a couple of offs.
There was even some close car-car racing too;  all mostly good fun!

Cheers chaps,
Dave.

I would like to say that the F2 race was fun (thanks AC for the head's up re my car selection, keep forgetting that ****), but ridiculous warp/lag/stutter from either MJ or myself put me off my game enough that it I lost motivation. Yes, it's not MJ's fault, it's the fault of whomever happens to be in the way when he re-appears (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12236.0).

69 race started ok, but engine didn't even last 1/2 lap. From there, trying to hard, bunch of small damages from here and there, and meh cyas next week.

Yes MJ was warping during the races.

It was two of my best Friday's races.
Especially with 69X, I was second just after Axel during the first laps and was slowly closing the gap with his car ...until Evil join us and overtake me, the Mark did the same.
By the way, it was two fun races !

The haste!!!! :censored:

Vielen Dank, dass ist super Axel !

Missed the race though , went off to my shed where I shaved 10ths off a piece of wood in place of my lap times  ::)

Yes he does, due to a distance of 20 000 KM to the server + Deans 6 000 KM ::)
Who wants to set the limits?

(IMO Bernies warping was unacceptable in the Kyalami AM race...)
I have had my problems in other races too, but an online racer has to learn to handle it ;)
Watching Bernies race for verifying the lost laps took a while, but showed how the following Dave Curtis brilliantly managed to survive this hairy situation!!!

My races

F2s was a lucky win when Mark had a spin in the last turn   :o

69X was exiting all the time.
Being a little exhausted from the F2 race, it was way more challenging to keep the concentration up with a close following David and later the final battle with Clive gave me an extra dose of adrenaline  ;D

I had a good time. I still don't have a good handle on the 166 or 49 but should improve as I get more practice. I apologize to whoever I wrecked when I spun on lap 1 in the 49. This switch between cars is still causing me trouble.

I was in a nice early position behind Axel in the F2 race until I spun in turn 2. That put me to the back. I had a good race with Francesco for a few laps. He was slower through two turns but his high hp kept him in front of me until on the final lap when I checked to see if he was willing to wait as long as me to brake on the back straight.

I struggled with the 49 the entire race. I did get a good kick out of Clive's pass in turn 1. I left a little more than a car width between my car and the wall hoping Tommie's car wouldn't come back towards the middle of the track. I was also hoping nobody on my right would hit me and was glad to see Clive make it by on the inside. That was as cool as Arf's pass on me in turn 1 at Zeltweg. It's too bad I couldn't keep up more than a half a lap.

Thanks guys.

Apologies if I hit you Greg, I felt nothing through my wheel :-\

I did not save my own replay so I will have to d/load the server version to look.

You didn't touch me Clive. I meant I was impressed, pleased, or happy to see you get by on the inside when I was in such a precarious situation. I guess I should have said I got a delight out of your pass in turn 1 instead of a kick. That is older US slang.

I checked the mechanical report. No wonder I had such a bad feeling throughout that race. Car was damaged when I spun on lap 1 and Andreas couldn't make it by and on lap 7 I brushed a wall damaging both F and R suspension on the other side of the car. I wrecked all four corners of the car. GPLRA didn't record my engine blowing on the last lap when I finally had to reset. I haven't driven the 49 enough to know I was driving a damaged car for 90+% of the race. :)

  so started from the pitlane.

I did that recently. You were unfortunate. I started from the pits because I had qualified improperly and wanted to start from the back. If I have to do that again, I'll drive the wrong way off the side of the track in qualifying to place me at the back.

You had me real confused at one point. I glance at pribluda occasionally and knew Mark was in front of me but when you passed me for some reason I thought you were Mark. I guess I was having flashbacks of trying to keep pace with Mark when we race against each other in the MS80's. It was a very similar experience. With you being scored a lap down I thought Tommie was you when he caught up with me. When I saw him in the mirror at first I thought he was driving a McLaren M7. I couldn't figure out what was happening around me for a few laps.
