Season 26 Amateurs Trophy - Round 5 - Mexico City

Welcome to the fifth round of the Amateurs Trophy. Over the ocean to meet with Speedy Gonzales and his compatriots. Mexico City.

Halfway stage of a championship that is producing some very even matched racing.

Our race is at the historic 2.747-mile race track "Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez" in Mexico City, named for the famous racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. This track first hosted F1 in 1962 when Ricardo was killed in practice for the non-championship event. Despite this inauspicious start the course was a staple of the F1 championship between 1963 and 1970. This is a tough circuit and if you can avoid the polos there should be some close racing.

Our race will be run under INT rules and only ONE reset is allowed. Entrants must complete 50% of the race distance to score. EACH Shift-R MUST be followed within TWO laps by a Stop 'n' Go.

All drivers have free choice of chassis although the faster drivers (you know who you are!) should avoid the BT11 and Lotus. There is currently no handicap for this series.

65 Patch: The 2.02 Release of the 65mod can and should be used. You need a working installation of the 65 mod to install the 2.02 Update. All the 65 Mod files can be found here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Mods/1965)

Replays Available here (http://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/inc_replaysS26_js.aspx)

Driver lists and rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=431&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Moderation: Full moderation of lap one red zone which runs to the exit of the hairpin (turn 6 before the Esses).

Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Greetings,

Are we permitted to use the entire track surface at Mexico? The white lines do not seem to mark the boundary of the track. In any case, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks, WC

Thanks, I probably will run wide when I exit the left hand turn two, but at least, I will try to keep all four wheels on the pavement.  ;D

I was in the Garage set-up screen when the race started. I started from pit lane, and fought as hard as I could to stay motivated.  :P

Good race everyone and congrats to the top finishers!
See you next round, WC

Not bad - steady. Bit of an unfortunate coming together with Bernie on Lap 1. R/I I think but that put me last and a long way back. Couldn't cut into the lead and when I pushed it I just went slowly in the esses and the lap times were poor. Kept getting the hairpin wrong as well...

Whole 30 seconds quicker than the last time I raced here but so was Rog... WD that man!

Ah well. Next time. At least Chelsea won so it wasn't all bad ;)

Not been here that often but it normally ends up as a lonely run (and not out in front!).
Tonight, was somewhat different - too much company!     A train for most of it.
Luckily managed to sneak past Johnny & was hoping that he/Maddog would keep each other rather busy.

Rog just scampered away with it. Well done that man!

Cheers all,
Dave.

Looks like lag or warp on my replay Paul , no contact made though  I did slid a bit wide there was plenty of air between us , same thing happened with Billy on Lap 9 same T1

Noticed I did have a bit of a laggy  connection , nothing like as bad as the other weeks fiasco though .

My big problem here was having the wrong race set up , we had visitors (Wifes 65th B Day ) I joined the server late but then realised the set up I had saved in Race Eng wasn't available in "on line" mode . off I went back to the garage , copied the settings then re join and enter them manually only to find I had the default race set up  :-[  had forgot to save it for qually and race  :'(

Thought my engine was naggered about lap 15 so did a reset and pit in only to find later I had run out of gas (silly me ) default set up is only 14 laps worth of fuel, so you might want to DQ me for that one

Glad Chelsea won ,  good result for the Wigan boys too last week !!! and with Liverpool back up there , Looking like us Northerners will soon rule the world

Oh yes, meant to mention...

At a couple of times,  the guys ahead were disappearing,  to reappear a few seconds later.

Really enjoyable race, Rog drove well I kept a small gap for quite a while but eventually dropped back. Dave passed me after lining up a pass on the straight for a few laps that I hoped would slow him and Rog down a bit- unfortunately he too was too quick to stay with. Maddog got me late in the race and I would say probably my best 4th place ever. Grats to Rog on the win.

Distinctly outpaced for this race - couldn't get into the 1.55's let alone 1.54's. Mexico is not one of my favourites.
There were some warp momemnts - a Honda last seen a couple of corners behind suddenly appearing in front - where it stayed for the remainder of the race.
Have not looked at the incident with Bernie but he waited for me on the next straight. Enjoyed the battle while it lasted.
Hope to be a bit more competitive at Zeltweg.

It was a last minute trip to Mexico with no preparation.  This allowed me the excuse to take the Lotus along, and with time enough for one reconnaissance lap in French, as I don't know the Mexican for this.

An easy win was thwarted, when I noticed other cars on the track.  Instead there followed a good four way scrap for the top step, with myself stationed as podium watcher.  I'd legs enough to keep watch, but wasn't geared for slipstreaming maneuvers down the straight.  Finally outgunned the Cooper, which had had no right to be ahead, but refused to be left.

The pitboard had been telling me I was a lap down all race, so the end came suddenly, but it was a nice way to go.  :D

Was going in BRM had more grunt on straight, but switched back to FEZ as could manage tires better at Peralta. Race as Dave C and Maddog said was a close 4 way battle, Johnny getting a lot out of the Coop worried me at hairpin and esses, last few laps Dave C was closing so was relieved  when race finished.

And from my POV that was SUPER SCARY! I thought there had been a mass disco for a second or two.

I tried Zeltweg last night and what a good looking circuit- someone has done a fine job creating it for Gpl.
