Title: UKGTR Endurance Car Pack installation instructions (updated for 1.5)
Post by: Dave 'Gizmo' Gymer on February 12, 2006, 10:41:37 AM +0000
Installations instructions (based on text prepared by Rich):

Download carpack from here: https://www.simracing.org.uk/downloads/SROU_Car_Pack_1.5.zip
Download GTRmanager here: http://www.gtr4u.de/dl/GTRManager13final.zip.
(You may want to look at ModMan (http://www.checksix-fr.com/bibliotheque/index.php?page=detail&ID=4100) which includes GTRManager but also supports GTL, rFactor, and a host of other games.)

Important! You must ensure that any previously installed version of the car pack is fully uninstalled before trying to replace it with the latest version. See below for instructions.

Install GTRmanager and load the program. On the screen that appears got to options and select the path to your main GTR root directory e.g. C:\Pogram Fles\GTR\ and click OK. Now place the recently downloaded carpack into addons_GTR folder e.g. C:\Program Files\GTRManager\addons_GTR.

Start GTRManager and click 'Addon Manager' and a new window with a list of addons appears. Those in green are installed and those in red are not installed. You will see the SimRacing.org.uk Endurance S2 Carpack v1.4 as red. Click the box to the far left, this will put a tick in it.

Then look at top right, in the Install or Uninstall toolbox click 'Install!'. This will install the car pack and the light at the end of the pack's row will turn green. Exit GTRmanager and the carpack will be installed. To uninstall do the same porcedure except click Uninstall!

Non-GTRManager users can simply upack the zip file in their GTR directory.

Here's Rich's text about uninstalling and reinstalling the car pack. Might be useful for those doing manual installations or who are having problems.

Firstly, open GTRManager and uninstall SimRacing.org.uk carpack. If it is installed then it will be in the green list. Put a tick in the tick box on left in line with carpack and now in top right click the 'Uninstal!' option. Don't click Uninstall all !!!

Once uninstalled you MUST delete car pack from addons folder before installing new car pack i.e. C:\Program Files\GTRManager\addons_GTR\UKGTR ES2.zip .. now download latest carpack (see above). Put this downloaded carpack into C:\Program Files\GTRManager\addons_GTR.

Now got to C:\Program Files\GTR\GameData\Teams. Look in the following folders for any UKGTR or UKGTR ES2 folders and delete them.

24H/Mosler
24H/Porsche 996 Turbo
GT/Ferrari_550
GT/Lister
GT/Porsche993GT2
GT/Lamborghini
GT/Viper
nGT/Ferrari_360
nGT/Porsche996GT3
nGT/Morgan

Once you've deleted any remaining UKGTR ES2 cars, open GTRManager and install the latest carpack as explained above.

This may seem a pain to do but it's actually quite simple. I know if I install latest and then straight away uninstall it works - removing every single file. If things get tampered with, things can get left in installation and affect installations made later on.

Have been doing a bit of practice at Oschers,  I pretty much refuse to do hotlapping, so I tend to have full practice sessions at 100% so there's a car or something to overtake every 5 or so laps. Anyway I was beating TrueTom, Mo and Rich_A  :D

Good idea to add the text about uninstalling previous version correctly to first post here.

Currently it's in Magny Cours thread here https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1328.msg18035#msg18035..

Do you think that if we set a submission deadline of the end of Wednesday the 17th, you could have an updated pack ready by the 20th with the aim of holding a test race on the 21st, with Endurance Season 3 to kick off a week later? ;)

Yep go for it..  8)

One thing I will ask of anyone making update or new car, please compare it to an original GTR car of same car. The things to check are contents of tex and ultra tex, they ought to be exact same as GTR files. And also check file sizes, usually tex is half the size of ultra. Just look at original GTR car and check those two things please, contents and file sizes. For sizes check and compare all files within tex and ultra, thnx. I will be checking it but this is what takes most time to rectify for me.

Post by: Rich_A on May 10, 2006, 05:19:39 PM +0100
Hehe.. nice.

When I say check file sizes, I actually mean check resolution size. Tex are usually half the size of Ultra i.e Ultra is 2048x2048 and Tex is 1024x1024 for example. Follow originals as guides for resolution sizes, cheers..

Of course all cars have different resolutions, it's easy to check what resolution should be by opening original GTR car in Locutus GEditor, it gives resolution on right hand side where info is.. height and width is resolution.

Can a mod edit first post here?

It says..

Now got to C:\Program Files\GTR\GameData\Teams. Look in the following folders for any UKGTR ES2 folders and delete them.

Change it to read -

Also can you add these directories -

GT\Lamborghini
GT\Viper

Also please emphazise deleting previous Car Pack from addons folder.

It reads -

Once uninstalled delete carpack from addons folder

Can you change to..

I've done an update to SpaceFox's Saleen, namely windows and some nice graphite tyre rims ..

Extract contents of zip to GTR root folder, the structure is done and will put the DDS files directly into right folder. There's no .car changes so won't be any mismatches.

Put it on RSC cause my FTP playin up again !! http://forum.rscnet.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=371620&d=1148743793

It's unlikely as GTR2 is (hopefully) just around the corner.

A GTL pack is more likely... (hint hint etc etc ;))

Quite annoyingly... That 1 is not really working in the way that we want it to ;). Maybe Shark can upload it to FTP and change link? :)

There's no real reason to be using raw GTRManager now that ModMan (http://www.checksix-fr.com/bibliotheque/index.php?page=detail&ID=4100) includes it.

Seems when the 07 Graham Nash car is running it overwrites my graphite rims. There's probably a way to assign a new naming structure to my CBFR Saleen rims, probably a zmodeler job!! Anyhow if I paste the SALEEN_WHEEL_STYLE200, 201 and 202 from the .zip above into Graham Nash they work again although of course the 07 car has my graphite rims!! The 08 uses different rims so it's unaffected.

There must have been a 07 driver in lasts nights sprint cause rims are white on my Saleen. Well, my graphite rims look great so i'll be doing it that way from now on cause I can't imagine there's too many 07 Graham Nash drivers and besides which SpaceFox will be right upfront very shortly.  :P

Link fixed.

I don't really like Modman. It's package conversion NEVER works and it's package creation is very odd.

The package creation for GTR is just GTR Manager anyway.

The creation for the other sims seems exactly the same... It is a bit odd though...

When I tried it for packaging up the GTL tracks it really went mad.
Worked a lot better for Picnic than me.

I gave up using it for rFactor cause all the mods are so screwed up with rFactor in their different installers and so on that the whole thing just becomes a bit of a shambles.

rFactor mods are generally really easy - for the ones which use .EXE installers I just lie about where rFactor is, let it create the files and directories (most of them are just self-extracting archives anyway), then point ModMan at it to build the package. Easy lemon squeezy peesy.

No, there won't be a mid-season update because GTR2 will be here before the next season begins, so we'd only get a half a season of use out of it.
