Season 26 Works Trophy - Round 8 - Solitude

For this round we head off to Germany, western Stuttgart to be exact. This long challenging circuit is named after Castle Solitude and was mainly used to hold motorcycle races but Formula 1 races were held there in 1961, 62, 63 and 64.

For Season 26, all drivers must complete at least 50% of race distance to be classified.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.  

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Frauenkreuz on top of the hill. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=427&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Be glad to have aboard in the GP67's, Uli.  I just hope that you make the 110% cut-off time in qualifying.

Well, started well and safe, expecting Robert with the Lotus to jump ahead as he duly did. Did a couple of bends, then Rob disappeared. Thought, 'how unlucky Rob, this is really not your season'. Then I realised no one was behind either and started to worry... I kept driving until the bend that leads to the very long full throttle section. And suddenly found myself back to Igor. I had discoed after T3 when Robert disappeared...GPL does it to you sometimes, it taunts you. Theres something intrinsically irritating to this game, it has been implemented in the software as part of the challenge I think  ;D ;D...Really would have loved to race around here, a bit mad in the 67 but a lot of fun. Anyway, will see you guys at the next one, thanks for the racing.

Tough luck Attilio. Your quali lap was very impressive, and prolly you would have had the best racepace.

Didn't have the best prep for this race, and just was looking for a good finish, running the Lotus. But qualified in P2 and was able to take the lead after the start. Art disappeared sadly, and Iestyn followed me pretty close for about 10 laps before his engine went. The Lotus enabled me to keep him at bay. Lost focus watching for Iestyn, had a bad lap, and then went in safe mode bringing the car home with 28ish laps, engine temp was 83C, which is very low, a lot of shortshifting throughout the race. Great track.

Pretty happy with my first Works win, and looking forward to finish the season with some more good results to save the season so to speak. :)

Also congrats to Andreas and Uli. Well done finishers and commiserations to those who had to retire...a lot of attrition sadly, but it's a tough track as well...

PS: missed Tristan and Tommie as well, and a few others...

Well, this track has just 'gelled' for me now, getting 3:27 in the Brabham.. such a great flow and rhythm. Before that (3:30 and over) it was always a struggle..

Q went well, got a nice PB and lost time on my best lap (almost going into the twisty section driveway), so after testing a race fuel start, I saw 4 mins left and had another go, crossing the line with just 10 seconds left.. quite Vettel-like  :laugh:. I was lucky Clive in a Ferrari span in the last twisty corner, which gave me no issues on room, closing up to Ray's Honda near the end of the lap, and catching back 3rd from Jethro and Greg. Looked like the top 6 could have a close race sub-3:30 consistently.

Attilio - unlucky.. on my screen you disappeared just where you describe when crashing back to igor. After that it was a two-way battle... three-way would have been great. I kept Rob in check at about 2 or 3 seconds in front, before gradually closing to about 1 second back by half distance. We came up to lap an unfortunate Doni, in the Ligier Brabham (read: Wet patch stuck on.. yet still a fabulous result obtained), and Doni gave the right hand side before the turn to the 'mortals & aliens' sign, but Rob took the racing line and passed on the grass, so Doni moved right and let me by too, just as we got to the jump/braking zone. Now I was just about at the margins of slipstream of Rob (35-40 yards) and kept my foot flat over the flat left jump, promptly blowing the engine.. I was determined to catch that slipstream, it was my only chance to pass..  ::) and the braking for the next corner was the place on track I gained most on Rob, so was probably the only place to pass (but that would be a daunting move), apart from a mistake.

Fastest lap and a new overall PB is a consolation. But what a fantastic race and track, once it flows. Congrats to the finishers, there was a lot of retirements, but this is that kind of track, that's for sure!

Fabulous result indeed, Iestyn!  :)  I can't hardly believe that I survived let alone cop a P4 finish.  And if I'd avoided being lapped, it could have been P3 as Uli had a serious off at one point and then ran his petrol tank dry on the last lap.

Grats to Robert on a fine win!  Great job.  Fresh underwear already being couriered over to you, Bobbie.  :)

A fine run, too, for Uli who, apparently, is very rusty with the GP67's.  Pity about that fuel situation.  Another couple of litres would have brought you home.

Great job by Andreas to nail down P3.  Well done.

A strange, strange race for me.  Nothing quite like it in my experience.  When I first joined the server, I found misty skies.  ???  Ah!  The new 'wet patch' from Lee200.  I left the server and un-ticked the box.  (Or at least I think I did; to tell the truth, I don't remember if it was invoked or not)  I re-joined the server to find...misty skies.  Hmmm...  I left the server again, went to the file folder holding the patch and deleted it.  Joining the server yet again, no change.  I knew something was terribly wrong as qualifying times for the front end of the grid indicated no lack of adhesion.  Was I the only one with limited traction?  I cut a lap late in the session and managed a 48.  This was against a 33 I'd managed earlier in the day.  Going to be a long, long race...

But it was cool.  I enjoyed the slippey conditions and just plugged along in the low 3:50's bracket.  There were many, many fallers early on that promoted me up the leaderboard at a great old rate.  To come home P4 has to be regarded as a complete fluke.

The only real bit of drama came when Robert came up to lap me.  I was ready to cede the right side of the roadway to him when suddenly and to my horror, he blasted by on my left going what seemed to be about 400 mph.  :)  Sorry for that, RF.  I shuffled over to the right and had Izzy rip by a moment later.  PHEW!  That could have been trés, trés mal.  I've already got my fresh undies on.  :)

After the race, I attempted to reproduce the conditions that had me stuck in the 'wet' mode.  Nope.  The patch functioned properly when invoked and not when the tick box was left empty.

C'est la guerre.

Yes, I did approach so fast, it was like you were coasting on the little straight. Wasn't sure which side you were choosing, you were just left of the middle, when I came out of the the turn, and didn't want to lift because of Iestyn. To be sure I went for the grass, in hindsight passing right would have been better, but speed difference was pretty big  :o


Respect for salvaging a 4th place finish driving on ice ;)

I started very carefully because an Eagle got across in the first corner, maybe I was a bit too cautious - everything went well but unfortunately not behind me, hope my cautious was not the reason for it  ...
I just want to gather experiences on this circuit which i know very well from the view of a 65 car – just want to see the checkered but  at the end of lap 13 I ran out of fuel ...
still had a lot of fun  ;D even with blind flying in the cloud of dust behind Evilclive and Turkey Machine …
