Post by: BadBlood on May 11, 2014, 08:01:36 PM +0100
Season 26 Amateurs Trophy - Round 8 - Imola

NOTE THE CHANGE OF SERVER

Welcome back to the Amateurs Trophy. For Round 8, we move to Italy. Imola. Named for the Ferrari heir, Dino, the track was renamed as the Autodromo Enzo e Dino after Enzo's death in 1988.

The track was inaugurated in 1953, and it had no chicanes, so the run from Rivazza all the way to Tosa, through the pits and the eventually notorious Tamburello was totally flat out, as was the run from Acque Minerali all the way to Rivazza was just a long straight with a few small bends; and the circuit remained in this configuration until 1972. Long time home of the San Marino Grand Prix (and once of the Italian Grand Prix) the circuit is fast, bumpy and dangerous.

After the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in 1994, the track was remodelled to reduce speeds but we use the original, high speed layout. Luckily the worst we can suffer is a disconnect.

Our race will be run under INT rules and only ONE reset is allowed. Entrants must complete 50% of the race distance to score. ANY Shift-R MUST be followed within TWO laps by a Stop 'n' Go.

All drivers have free choice of chassis although the faster drivers (you know who you are!) should avoid the BT11 and Lotus. There is currently no handicap for this series.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Moderation: Full moderation of lap one red zone which runs to the exit of Acqua Minerale.

Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

I had this error while installing the track

I am able to add Imola to my 1965 season using GEM+2, but I do not see the track in the game. I also tried this link http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=485 (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=485)
Thanks, Walt

Hmmm. I don't think there is anything wrong with the package but try deleting the Imola folder from your Tracks directory and then removing it from the relevant season.ini - you can then start again. I have had one or two issues installing tracks in the past but if you are getting the same error from both downloads then it is a problem with how the track has been recorded in GEM.

Re-install and then see if you can run gplc65.exe directly and select Imola like that. If you can, it may be an issue with GEM.

I will be around in iGOR from around 8pm tomorrow if you need any assistance.

Thank you, I did as suggested, and the track is working well. Hopefully I can get a little practice now.

I have some good news. I may have fixed the calibration problem with my G27 wheel. I finally removed the cover to the wheel late last night, and discovered that two screws were loose. I tightened them down, and so far the wheel is working ok. This video describes what I did to fix my problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKkqlrUHel4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKkqlrUHel4)

So I am hoping that I can race today, and give it a proper test run.

Personally a poor race. Right Front went from cold to melting every time I turned left - there are a few of them at Imola - that caught me out at Rivazza three times and the standard has really improved. Well done to the podium and everyone who made it a race from start to finish.

The coop was surprisingly quick around here which enabled me to get in the mix- 2 unforced errors put me down the order which was a shame as it was great fun racing at the sharp end. Grats to the podium- a tough track to drive consistent so some great driving on show. See you all next time.

Tyre melting problem was the same for me  , seems like the harder you try , the slower you go  ::)

I ran with lower pressures for the race to counteract the over heating but think this compromised my top speed ( essential at this track )

Had good fun chasing Paul down then trying to catch Johnny's speedy Coop after Paul ran wide at one point and let me through .

Grats to the podium and well done to the rest of you lot who couldn't wait for me  :)

Grats to Dave on win
Grats to Podium

Some great racing from Dave and Walter, made several mistakes early on lost it at Tosa should have slowed and let Walter pass and penultimate lap lost it at Piratella went wide on grass and lost place.

I consider myself rather lucky with the end result.

Had a quick practice on Monday night & managed to get about 7 seconds off my previous best round here (luckily I had posted in the s23 race;  which setup I'd plumped for - so avoided that for starters!).

Qually is rarely good for me.  But was pleasantly surprised to have been out of the back couple of rows.

From the start, Rog was off so just tried to stay with him. There seemed to be a bit of a gap opening up back to 3rd.   Which then appeared to be disappearing rapidly.  I may have been slowing us both down, whilst the guys behind were getting warmed up.

Just managed to squeeze ahead & when a gap grew,  it shrank again.  For much of the race, I was well aware of seeing another 2 or 3 cars too close behind.   I then kept just parking up in the middle of the track round lefy hand corners;  & a couple of rather wide/nearly stopping round that uphill right too...

Realistically,  Rog/JP/Walter probably should all have got me.   But, I'm guessing there must have been various issues behind - not that I'm complaining!

A small grid & again the GPLRA lap graph doohicky suggests a boring race - but we know it was harder work than that!

Cheers all,
Dave.

Congrats Dave! Hats off to you on your fine drive. You were able to do the fastest lap of the race on lap 20, and that was the exact moment I lost concentration. It was a great race. Looking at the results, the best lap for each driver was within one second. On track, the gaps between the car in front and the car behind remained small.

In the first three laps, I was chased by BadBlood, and I was not sure how long I could stay in front. We caught Billy, and I was able to launch off the last corner to squeak past. I then messed up several of the following corners, and almost gave the position back. I was able to do a few clean laps, and I was able to catch the top three cars. It was remarkable to me that the top four cars were in such close proximity. The racing action settled down after lap twelve. I was still chasing Dave. It was difficult to close the gap. Unfortunately, I let my hard work go to waste on lap 20 with a slight lapse of concentration, but I was still very happy to finish second. Congrats again Dave, and good race everyone.

Thank you BadBlood for doing a lot of the "behind the scenes" work. Not to mention that you did a great job selecting tracks this season.

Cheers Walt. I was expecting several laps of battle when my tyres melted.... never had that before. Hoping for better things at Albi but getting under 1:17 is a challenge and the quick boys go in the 1:15s here. Not sure how competitive I am going to be but already looking forward to it and the Glen is always fun.

Congrats Dave. Would be fun to see Walter claim his first win, and Billy and Paul need a few more wins as well. Nice close field, nice and tight :)

That makes two of us!  One of the great things about the Amateur series is that each of the drivers has a legitimate chance at winning a race.   ;D

The next race at Albi must be in BB's favour- a circuit with double droit has to be mutleys race.
