The 9th round of the season 26 Historics championship (mod66) will be on “Jops Siffert” track
It’s a fantasy track, nice graphics & good for racing.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

I find you can set most routers to automatically give out the same local IP address to devices (certainly my Technicolor router does). May be something to consider so you don't get any nasty surprises!

Apologies for not putting 9 up in a while, I have been away from home and working hard, so haven't really found time to practice at any decent stretch.

This is set! But Linux did upgrade the Kernel and suddenly the fix IP was gone...
Was no longer the same device for the router!

At two points during the race I had to make a split second decision; go left or go right.
The first happened an instant after the race started, the other happened an instant before my race ended.
One I got correct and one I didn't. Law of averages I suppose  ::)

Grats to Cookie, amazing time, and to all who finished.

I'm getting tired of qualifying well, and lasting less than a couple of laps. The only progression I'm seeing is that fewer of the incidents are my fault!

I started p3 or p4, got a clean start and away through T1 without losing a position. Clive made a better exit out of T1, and came down the inside. I took the racing line, and Clive slipped underneath me. It looks from my replay like I got slapped off the track by a dose of warp. I got stuck in a tree, and it took a while to get out. I was so fed up to be so far behind everyone else when I rejoined, that I was already thinking of pulling off and doing something more interesting when I fell off the track at the tricky right hander and donated a wheel to the countryside.

Bored....

Apologies to anybody who got caught up in my inability to properly start.. I thought I made a jump start, and hit the brakes, unfortunately I neglected to pull the clutch in which made the revs bog down. Last and catch-up to play. Made it a few laps round before I thought 3 wheels was a good idea. Game over for me! Iestyn did the same trick and went a few laps further, still with a busted engine.

Well, my hatred of 50% for points continues.. thought I made it to about lap 14/15, three or four laps down, parking it in a bush.. and then, once the race finished, it became apparent I must have been looking at the leader's lap count instead of my own.  >:(

Before that.... learned the track following Arf and Cookie in Q, putting me 2nd splitting them... nice little battle we had at the front going 3 way, when I lost it at the jump and Pro damage made my car a mess. Considering it's 50% for points, we have a lot of collisions early on in the races... I was deliberately cautious early on as I knew I had to make it to lap 13.. Oh the irony  :D

This is such a challenging track to make a good setup with a car I never used before.
And then there is the Jump...  :o

Seems I found a good compromise to make the pole,
but I still had the fact in my brain, if you land a little crosswise the car will snap over!

And it happened! Twice!
The first 360° made me loose the lead to Clive, the second after a great catch-up race made me solid second  :(

Grats to Clive for a perfect race win! Great battle until it lasted ::)

I almost did not make the effort to join this race, I got home after a particularly harrowing evening and just slumped in the armchair. The biggest attraction was that concentrating on GPL might take my mind away from other things...so I dragged myself in front of the monitor.

A handicap choice of Lotus or Eagle looked a big problem for this deceptively demanding circuit, but the setup I had built for the Eaglet at Anderstorp had been quite succesful so i dragged that in and started some race fuel laps. The car was a nightmare..snapping into overtseer and then understeering at the next corner???

It was not until I aborte and returned to the pits to check the setup that I realised that the Anderstorp setup had been very assymmetric with tyre pressures/camber/ even spring rates out of balance for all the important corners in Sweden. Once I balanced up settings the car came alive and I was able to poke it onto 4th place on the grid with race fuel.

Jops always has the chance to punish any over exuberance and I was quite content to sit back and simply take any gifts that came my way. The first opportunity came as early as T1 when Ronnie got crossed up and I had a smooth run to take the inside at T2. ( I have not looked at the replay but apologies to Ronnie if there was contact that sent him off  :-\ :-\)
I was then sat behind Axel and Iestyn who were battling for the lead and dragging all 3 of us away from the rest of the field. It was noticeable that at certain places both of their cars looked a little "on the edge" whereas my Eaglet felt very comfortable.
Iestyn was the first to wobble a little too much and I took the invitation to claim 2nd spot, although whilst passing Iestyn I had lost ground on Axel. It was very gratifying to be able to close up on Axel so easily, without any major risks, over the next few laps and then to sit and wait again.
Axel was good enough to give me the lead a few laps later  ;)

I was watching prib and monitoring Axel as he slowly closed the gap, but resisted the urge to push hard until he got within 100 mtrs, then I just upped the pace enough to hold him at a safe distance, figuring that it was his job to push hard and take the risks ::) My car still felt settled and I knew that I could go faster if I really had to....it was not long before I had to test that extra speed as Axel continued to push.
Then, just when it seemed that I would be in a battle for the champagne...Axel was gone from my mirrors and I was left to keep a steady pace to the flag.

It was certainly a better end to the evening compared to how it began, and a victory that I did not expect. Tristan was absent and I am sure that had he been there, things would not have been so easy

Grats to Axel and all the finishers, but commiserations to Iestyn who I passed several times as he limped his 3 wheeler around to try and make 50% distance only to be fooled by the technology and quit 1 lap too soon :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

It looks like the last race of the season is going to be a interesting.................................

TBH I would rather not win by default just because Tristan does not show...nice as winning might be  ::)

Does anyone know what has happened to him?? he seems to be missing from the UKGPL scene generally. perhaps he is on vacation?

Either way, a handicapped 3ltr 66 car around Mexico is going to be one hell of a grind to finish the season lol!!

Good to hear Tristan has moved house and will be back when he has a new connection.  :)

I took the trouble to look at the points table and it is very close if Tris returns for the last race. I still have to drop one score ( Tris has already missed 3 race so drops none. Which in effect means that I am only 6 points ahead of Tris, but with a 7 point difference between 1st and 2nd............ if Tris wins at Mexico he still takes the crown even if I finish 2nd  :-\

If I was a Waza I might consider devious tactics  :shifty: but as a reformed Blue Mooser I shall contest the race in a sportsmanlike manner  ::)

I think you can deactivate messages when you are running on the track , or am I wrong ?

Sorry for these messages, but we really wanted to not disqualify Francesco for this kind of mistake.
For the next races, the avalaible cars should be selected when starting the server

ONE moderator should inform the driver, ONCE. If driver ignores this, DQ.

Maybe we can avoid such chatting troubles if the server "boss" learns to use the commands to kick a client  ;)

Even if the server has only the available cars selected, it does not prevent any driver to join with another car if he has it chosen before!

TBH, I am most disturbed by these imho unneccessary "DRIVER_XY PO" and "DRIVER_XY PI" messages some drivers do,
as they do not help to avoid any dangerous situation but give a massive glitch to every OGL driver...

I have found a semi solution for OGL
Quote
In GPL-shift there is a setting for font size. Find the [GPL Font] Auto_Set_GPL_Font_Size and set it to 0. You might find the chat a bit hard to read, the text gets rather small but it helped me with the fps drops anyway.

At Gplracer, all PI and PO messages are banned, and any chat at official races receives a warning the 1st time.  The second time a wheel falls off!

Goggle helped me to find the GPL Wiki re chat messages :)

Multiplayer - Chat commands and Boss Control

I learned, that we can do private chat messages to any one of the players connected to the server.

Yes, you can, but I would prefer not to, in case something is said that does apply to me. Chat messages don't bung my system like they do to others, but it's still more than a little distracting while trying to qualify and there are messages popping up ALL THE TIME "uh oh, someone's in wrong car" "HEY YOUR"E IN THE WRONG CAR" "is he in the wrong car? " "Yeah he's in the wrong car and we're trying to tell him" "someone should tell him he's in the wroing car" :HEY YOURE IN THE WONR G CAR" " maybe he has messages turned off" etc etc etc while everyone and his mechanic chime in with their 1.5 cents (pre-VAT) worth.

...Is it a new official rule or is it YOUR rule ?...

Neither. "Should" was meant to imply it SHOULD be a rule in my opinion. As I'm not a mod, maybe one of your fellows can explain the niceties to you.

I'm relieved I didn't completely ruin your season after what I did at Nurburgring. When I looked at the season standings after that race, I was really disappointed with what I had done. I had thought about starting at the back since that was only the second track I'd driven the 246. If I race these cars again I will start at the back until I've got a lot more experience.

I've been a poison pill to you this season. I apologize. In the future if I we're in the same race I'll start at the back except for the Works and Friday series. I'm not a big fan of the F2's so I don't expect to race them much.

Take care Clive. I hope I haven't angered you too much this season. None of the bs I caused was intentional.

I hope you win the championship!

No need to explain the niceties of your rule to me.
I will not change the UKGPL official rules because this is not my responsibility.

Your answer is one of the reason (a minor one) I am not really happy to be again races moderator on the next seasons.
We try to arrange things to allow a maximum of people to race (Francesco in this particular case) and we just receive critics.

...We try to arrange things to allow a maximum of people to race (Francesco in this particular case) and we just receive critics.

Francesco was free to race whatever chassis he wanted to in that race (as whoever started the server failed to restrict the car choice). Whether he gets points or not is a different question and could have been dealt with afterwards.

I had a really good chance at taking pole there (which might have allowed me to avoid getting involved with other people's over-aggression [thanks for the apology, RC  ::)] and incidents leading to my VERY EARLY RETIREMENT AND ANOTHER NO POINTS FINISH), but with the bullshit distractions going on I gave up trying for the last 15 minutes and went to find something else to do until the race started.

If you can't take people disagreeing with you and raising their objections politely, maybe you shouldn't be a mod.

edit: I'd like for the moderation to be re-opened, and wish to protest the entire race result, due to the concerns I've raised above.

Yes Dean, it was my fault to not restrict the car choice in the server menue! :notworthy:

But we know that it is not possible to avoid a wrong join, if the driver does not look into it and has chosen another car before.

Funny thing is, its you, who makes the most unnecessary "DEAN LOGAN PIT IN" "DEAN LOGAN PIT OUT" chat that disturbs me in every race  :2guns:

We are happy to have such good moderators who invest a lot of time, enthusiasm and nerves to make this league running!!!

...Funny thing is, its you, who makes the most unnecessary "DEAN LOGAN PIT IN" "DEAN LOGAN PIT OUT" chat that disturbs me in every race  :2guns:...

From https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/sporting (I thought you'd be familiar with this, but as a refresher seems to be required...):

Quote
In-game chat

As a general rule, chat is not allowed during league races, except after all drivers on track have passed the chequered flag. This applies to both qualification and race sessions.

The only exceptions to this are "PO" or similar for exiting the pits, "PI" for entering the pits...

You don't want people to do that? Change YOUR rules. Until then, stop ignoring the other parts yourself, thanks.

These rules don't say "you have to" PO...

I suppose they were made before pribluda, wich gives us a way better chance to leave the pits save for other drivers!

In other leagues PO is forbidden! (GPLRACER)

I know it was a fault to try to stop Fran that way, but now I have learned that I have the possibility to do a private chat with a driver ;)

These rules don't say "you have to" PO...

From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/exception

Quote
exception
noun
...2. something excepted; an instance or case not conforming to the general rule...

Just where did I claim it said you HAVE TO? It says that WHAT I DID IS ALLOWED, and what YOU (and others) DID IS NOT.

...In other leagues PO is forbidden! (GPLRACER)...

And that is so incredibly relevant here.  ::)
