Title: UKGPL Season 26 (2014) Privateers Trophy (67) - Borovaya - May 18
Post by: BadBlood on May 17, 2014, 07:03:20 PM +0100
Season 26 Privateers Trophy - Round 9 - Borovaya

Borovaya is a real track near Minsk in Belarus.

The Short Minsk Ring was opened in 1962. The circuit is situated northeast of Minsk, near Skopishe-second village. On a map the track resembled a triangle; two south sides went along old Zaslavskoe highway, which turned to the south near the village, and the north side ran along a new post-war section of this highway. The length of the track was 2850 meters. The track doesn't have any fences or walls around it, but some areas are marked by wooden landmarks or piles of tires.

Borovaya is located in a hilly region, so the track has huge altitude differences for a such short length – around 18 meters!

This is VERY tight and a short lap so overtaking will be tough. Probably not too advisable on the first lap

Race List = IGOR

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the last corner on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=426&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race preview arrived a bit late - the password a bit later?  The site seems back up to speed, so looks like there's no reason to panic . . .  yet. :surrender:

Would be very nice to be able to have the option :surrender:

Quite an eventful race.  I was well down the grid and got held up by a slow starting Andy L which was quite lucky because it meant we missed the T1 shenanigans.  So at the end of lap 1 I had moved up to third.  I couldn't stay with David and Gareth, they were too quick today, well done gents.  But I had a good battle with Billy and Dave Curtis.  I thought I had made contact with Dave on lap 12 but I've checked the replay and there was no contact, Dave simply put a wheel on the grass in a braking zone.  Having worked my way into a safe 3rd place, I tried to drive the last 10 laps carefully whilst keeping an eye on Andy L who I expected to catch me.  With 2 laps to go I had a safe 15 second lead but I went wide at T1 on lap 36 and somehow managed to get stuck on the polos.  I slammed the car in reverse and spun the wheels up in a desperate attempt to break free.  Thankfully I managed it just as Andy L approached.  I set off with a tiny lead but managed to hold onto my third place thanks to a PD on the last lap!

I'm very happy with my first win since several months !!
It was a nice pursuit with Gareth until he made a mistake, then I could drive more comfortably during the 10 last laps !

Grats to Andy : if I m not mistaken, he is the new Privateers Champion whatever will happen in Monza.

Well, ended up in a (potentially!) fairly safe-looking 4th position,  but found myself edging up/running with Phil.

Just got a bit too greedy & paid the price.   It was the semi-permeable tyres; where wheel goes in, but can't come out again.   Resulting reset/S&G dropped me back & despite looking as if I may make one of the lost places up;  a similar sticky tyre event with a few laps to go - where I just forgot to brake enough for that 1st gear left towards the end of the lap.

So basically threw away 4 positions;  although admittedly I had only been as high as 4th due to a lot of shenanigans elsewhere!

Still, got some more practice following Billy around & also Phil.   Good going fellas!

Also,  great going DaveR!

Cheers,
Dave.

Some thoughts for one of the greatest legend of F1 : Sir Jack Brabham   :'(

About the races, I just noticed, in Borovaya the Privateers top 3 (Gareth, Phil and me) were quicker than the Works winner  ;D

ok race all in all.
could not get <21's in qually which was disappointing.
race was ok, nice drag to t1 of the line. was chasing Dave for a bit, doing same times, until he made a small error so then a roll reversal but still neither was faster than the other, then my turn to fluff it, 3 times in four laps at the double right, left me 15 + sec down. never mind 2nd is ok.
grats to Dave on a fine win.

WD to Andy on the championship, well deserved.

F1 is a little poorer today  :'(

Quite a good race by my standards - but probably more to do with the track beating the competition than me. Got very used to the sound on ferrari engines chasing me down on the long straights - first Phil then Dave C.
Congratulations to Dave Rainier on the win & a dominant performance & quite fitting that he won in a Brabham.
Very saddened to hear on the radio this morning that Sir Jack Brabham passed away. I never really paid much attention to historic motor racing until I started GPL. To win three world championships & the 66 one in a car of his own design was truely remarkable. Jack was a true Grand Prix legend.
I have saved enough tokens to take the Eagle at Monza but I think I will take the Brabham again.

Couldn't get the hang of this track at all , especially turns 1 to 15 , though I had mastered most of the long straight and part of T1  due mostly to my getting involved in everyone else's girations  on just about every out lap I tried  .

I think I got to the grand total of 3 flying laps during qually  , none of which were anywhere near the front runners or anyone else in the field for that matter , before it was time to tank up and join the grid

So I joined the race with the idea of not racing anyone ( hardly likely ) but testing myself against the track  . It didn't take long to find the track had won and so I decided it was time to seek out the paddock ice cream van for a little something to help cool my overheated brain down   ::)

Grats to all who survived and all those who got to taste the champers ( you know who you are )  ;)

Yes, big Grats to David for the win!

I knew this will be a surviving challenge, so I choose the BRM to not loose any tokens...
My big mistake was happening in the braking zone to T1 L1, where I was surprised by a very early hard braking Hendy...
SORRY for that!

After the s+r the BRM engine had a limited lifetime and my lonely race ended with a broken camshaft :-[

Watching the replay I did brake early, I think at the time I was trying to put some space between me and the cars ahead in case of a wreck. Didn't take long before ending in another wreck in front of the pits when Hunt lost control and rolled into the track. Somehow he survived a 170mph broadside collision :D.
