This post was edited, when the race notification was changed from : No Handicap, to : Handicapped Lights.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The idea of this Series has been to allow slower drivers to experience racing with the fast crowd.  To add some extra uncertainty to the mix.  This has not worked well, as not many have been brave enough to try.

If the Friday trophy handicap ends next Season, I will not be racing these cars often.  "Heavies," are too few.  You will have a smaller group of fast drivers.  :smartass:

Turned up with a minute to go... busy busy busy.

Monza setup isn't ideal but just feeling like I was getting to grip with it when I span and damaged something. Just getting it back when I blew the engine. Scramble to get across the line and into the Pits before Tommie lapped me.

Tom's car was obviously quicker because the wings were not dragging the car back like my Lotus. I would DEFINITELY have been four secs a lap quicker if I had had a setup <ahem>

WD guys. This is a fun series. Sad I have not been able to make more of them but Friday nights see me taxi-ing the girls around... ho hum.

Woohoo! Been too long without a win. Although I did have a bit of luck.

In the BT14 as always for the Formula 2 race. Also, as always it was hard to get the BT14 to handle. In the end I made some small last minute changes during quali which seemed to make the car easier to handle, although not perfect. Got a rocket start and blasted by just about everyone, until I was overtaken again by everyone halfway down the straight :D . Somehow managed not to get tangled up in a possible melee, and from that point on it was just a matter of hanging on and staying on track. Managed to profit from a few spins and slipstreamed the Matra's to get home 3rd :) .

Took a 1967 Lotus 49 Greger Huttu setup for my BRM P138 in the 1969 Formula 1 race, pretty much unmodified, taking over the wing settings from another Mexico setup. Fiddled with the gearing a bit during quali and found out the car actually handled okay, at least at first glance. Set out just staying out there learning the car and the track as much as possible during quali. I seemed to get faster and faster, until I had the pace to beat the four wheel driven cars. Only Martin in the mighty Ferrari was faster, and I got the car P2 on the grid. Reasonable start, again managed not to get tangled up, and set about chasing down Martin whilst simultaneously continue learning about the car. I was able to make Martin nervous and he lost it at the hairpin, but his car was blocking the track so I decided to give his car a gentle nudge so we could both continue quickly. Bit risky but it worked out and we stayed P1 and P2. Couple of laps later, the same thing but this time there was a gap behind Martin and I managed the sneak through. Martin got stuck on the inside embankment of the hairpin so all I had to do next was keep the thing on the track, in which I succeeded. Also found out that, if you are smooth, the harder you push the car, the better it handled. In the end I got a fastest lap only 6 or 7 tenths behind my Ferrari PB, so well pleased :) .

Here is the Formula 2 Brabham BT14 setup I used: http://www.grandprixlegends.co.nf/files/TvO_BT14_mex.bg1 .

Here is the 1969 Formula 1 Brm P126/138/139 setup I used: http://www.grandprixlegends.co.nf/files/TvO_BRM_69_mex.br1 .

To use them put them in your GPL/players/your_name/setups/mexico folder.

This Lola BMW has a great engine with some torque, this is needed in Mexico!
Only one mistake made it a save win...

Grats Tommie for this big win!
The 69 track version is a horror for me as these polos are not there but such nearly invisible rumble pads in the key corners!
This made me never get a rhythm on this parts. When Dean spun in the hairpin in front of me I over braked and spun too into the inner barrier. I made a esc to end this drama.

Is there a way to get rid of this 69 version, as it seems the chicane and the esses are narrower than the 67 version?
The polos are dangerous to touch but they are good visible and give a good reference point for braking and accelerating.

Well done to Axel and Tommie.  I've always struggled with the Mexico track, and so just wanted a good undramatic round, and I (mostly) got that.

Mine was a tale of 2 very different races.  Arrived with no setup for race one, which left me chasing my tail, thanks to curtailed Friday practices.  This meant rare glimpses of last place, in the race.

Better prepared for race 2, a tweak or two allowed the pinching of a suitable spot up front.  All then started well, except for an annoying grumbling from behind.  It belonged to BRM Tommie's BRM, which clung to my tail for half the race, and rudely passed by, the 2nd time I turned around to wave.  I must remember to be less cordial next time, as I'd prefer to leave the grumbling behind me!  :P

A solution to Cookie's 69 situation at Mexico, would be to rename the tracks/mexico folder - Mexico___69, and then re-install the original.  Also, remove the extra entry in your track.ini, or it will be available 2 times from the selection page.  To use the 69 version, use the original folder name again. ;)

The easiest way is to just remove or rename the mexico.369 and mexico.t69 in the track folder. That should work I think :) . It will give you the 1967 version.

Tommie.

Sorry about my ignorance on these matters but does this just change the track for the individual driver or the track that every one will be driving on?

My turn again!  The data exchanged via the Net is kept very small.  So collision data from track objects, will remain firmly attached to your screen, wthout teleportation to other screens.  So if some rascal runs online at Kyalami without a pit wall, they won't hit your pit wall, but will drive harmlessly through it.   Same goes for tyres at Mexico City.

Car data IS exchanged, as this usually makes races a bit less lonely.

So by doing this you can drive on a potentially easier track than the rest of the grid is driving on? If so, some might call that cheating

Post by: Tom van Ostade on June 08, 2014, 12:07:18 AM +0100
Well the choice had been left free by the mods so not cheating there, just choose what you like to run. We could have done it like at Kyalami where running with the pit wall in place is required, this time replace 'pit wall' with 'embedded tires', but we didn't. So if you ran with the embedded tire version and thought the rumble strip version provided an advantage, be sure to use it next time. Vice versa, idem ditto :D .

Not only is our Sim very old, it's also very hard to work on, to change things.  If cars and tracks could be easily modified, there are people who'd prefer to win, than to compete in a friendly fashion.  F1 today is no different, except there's more money involved. :)

Yeah I see what your both saying.

The original GPL was a great game and I think I'm right in saying you have both contributed to the modding, making it even better.

However I do believe that we should all be racing on the same track. Easier said then done when people have different spec machines to run the game, detail level used, add on graphic packages etc.

But I personally don't see what satisfaction anyone would get from altering the track to make life easier for themselves compared to the one everyone else is racing on. Just my opinion; now where is that groove editor and GPLshift download I keep meaning to use

Phew!

I just made some investigations with the different track versions, just regarding the T1/2 section.
I renamed the files Tommie mentioned before and took a Funliga 69X replay to see what happens there...
Neither tyres nore rumble strips are left!

All drivers touching the T1 right inside white line, where the rumble strips are, had a heavy movement in the suspension, exept a single driver who crossed the T2 line much more without any distortion!

IMO we have to restrict the  use of the track version in a 69X race!

eh? rumble strips? I didn't see any rumble strips!   Just some polos as usual; which (as usual) probably best to avoid.  Yeah - that's why I was lapping so slowly ;)

However, without meaning to harp on about it  - I did notice something new during the race.   Rainbow in the sky after the left/right after the hairpin.  Clearly Stormbringer coming.

Cheers,
Dave.

I agree 100%

As this possibly effects all Mexico races, the race post has to contain a warning text as it is used in the Kyalami races.

"The absence of the T1/2+ tyres will not stop you from joining the race but anybody seen by the moderators miraculously driving through the tyres on the server replay will risk disqualification."

Cheers,
Dave.

If you use the great Mexico_Multi_Season_Update of 2009, the track will look different in the years 65/66/67/68! and 69.

The biggest change are these historicaly correct 1969 used rumble strips...

PS
This update seems to be installed with the GPL all in one installer.
Now I took the track from my CD and got this:

If you have installed GPL with e.g. the gplinstall_beta_1.07 you will have it allready.

It only concerns the 69's as it narrows the track in some key corners!

My race was run on the original Papyrus track, and without any thought for different track versions.  Because I use the 0.97 Installer, it gives me only what I want.  Pribluda and addons can then be installed by choice, which apparently has unexpected advantages. 8)

It would complicate things to specify a specific track addon, when we race.  At kyalami, the rule is to always use the pit wall.  So I'd suggest at Mexico, we always allow the original pre-69.  If not, every driver will need to be visually checked after every race, for compliance.

The actual installer leaves the choice too, but who thinks of this 69' version...

But the knowledge I received in this thread makes it necessary to check every driver as you can remove the tyres!

Quote
You have to use the unmodified track!
The original version of the GPL CD and the complete Mexico_Multi_Season_Update of 2009 are ok.

Incident report published - one guilty driver- 2 corrections needed.  The report says a maddog re-entered the track not in control.  I was in full control.  A change of colour does not have to make a car uncontrollable.  Contact with Dave was made, only because he swerved towards me, to avoid Tommie van O. to his right.

I did not 'wipe out' his car, which he skillfully controlled, to loose only 1 place.  While I decided to turn backwards and stop, as punishment. ;D

It's clear one Moderator still has some teeth - Grannies everywhere should be jealous.
