Guy's, we still have a £40 deficit on our quarterly cost and if we don't clear it this month we will find it added to our next quarters cost's and then it will be a harder to clear.

So, to those who have already contributed, Thank you  :thumbup1: and if you could manage a further £2.00 it would be much appreciated.

To those who don't/haven't contributed please consider doing so. We really need your help to continue running.

Thanks

WT

just to clarify the car options for us who are PnG challenged..... ::)

It says "any Escort 1600, 1800, all"  so does that include the 2000??? or just any version of the 1600 /1800??

It means any of the 1.8/1.6

I might have guessed that was the case lol  ;D

I should have read the race post properly before I jumped into Goodwood for a quick spin yesterday. I was getting sub 1:20's in the Capri and that looked to be a far better choice than the asthmatic Elan.

Then I quit and later checked the post again..... well yes the 3.1 Capri probably would be quicker wouldn't it??? ::)

So I might get some time between now and Thursday to give the 2600 Capri a spin and the Escort 1800/1600. I'm guessing that lap times would be in the low 1:20's??? for these cars.

I like Goodwood as a circuit in GPL and always go to the Revival in September to watch the old cars racing, so this race should be fun.

The 2600 is probably the fastest car if you can drive around it's natural understeer, and braking instability
I like the '72 RS1600s best. Be aware there are considerable differences between the various years
of the cars on offer. The '71 RS1600s are quite a bit slower, and yep the 3100 capri is in a different league
than this lot  ::)

Low 1:20's, Evil?  I wish...

I briefly tested all four marques yesterday @ Gwood.

The Porsche was a stone...1:29's for me...but sounded neat.

The Capri...properly selected, ahem, ahem...was reasonably rapid with laps in the high 1:26's but I hate the sound files assigned to it.  Won't use it just because of that!

The Elan was fun and decently fast as I logged low 1:27's as a best.

The Escort was head-n-shoulders the fastest by far with a best of a low 1:24 timing and not much left on the table.  Sounded neat, too!  Just hope that I've selected the right model!

Not much doubt in my mind as to the best car to fling about.

yesterday I had an evening at home in CPH for a change, and tried out this combo.

I managed 1.23.00 in the Escort 270 BHP. It's sheer joy to drive that car on this track .... love it :- ))

A damned shame I can't make this race ( or any race until septermber actually ).

Hope you guys have fun.

Lots of fast Escort times :-) I was a little bit faster in the Capri than the Escort, but then I only did a few laps...

Not done a single lap yet  :( will have to do my praccy pre-race tomorrow night but looking forward to it as a cool group of cars on a good track. Isn't the rs1600 the car that has one or two way faster than the rest? Think the ST will be slowest of the group :-\

The RS1600 has '72 - fast and '71 slower, in my testing, which is usually rubbish, the Capri was fastest, the '72 Escorts
close behind with the (11 and Elan a second or so behind, which usually mean that in the hands of a good pork herder
the 911 will be a valid option. I may be completely wrong of course  ::)

I have seen a lot of Giuseppe and Federico on the server this week and can say that you will need a good 1:22 to be near the front!

I seem to remember a GC race at Melbourne where it needed an IROC to be competitive with the RS1600's, they are blinking fast!  Will prob still stick with the ST as I know it best and not done any praccy, plus its a joy to drive  :)

Some fast corners and long flat out sections here, so less disadvantaged than Melbourne perhaps
The 911 was not the fastest for me, but then it never is  :whistling:

I don't get many chances to win a race but that was one.................and I fluffed it!

Going by practice times, when I saw Federico and Giuseppe jump the start I thought that I was in with a chance.  The excitement was too much and I had a real tank-slapper trying to get off the line!

That let a few cars past but no worries, just be patient.  Hmmm  Then I was following Jarda at the end of the Lavant Straight and had to take to the gravel to avoid rear ending him!  My fault entirely!

Thus my advantage over Federico was halved and no longer enough to keep him from catching me.  Giuseppe having vanished.

In due time he passed me and went on to pass Jarda also.  Eventually I was also able to pass Jarda, who may have been having tyre problems by then.

Federico kept putting in the odd slow lap, just to kid me that I had a chance, but it had to be second.  Nearly lapped Matt though!  :thumbup2:

Grats to Federico.

Not sure what happened to Evil.  He was going well when I saw him but then sank to the back and left?

Had a rubbish event  :( the ST, as I foretold  ::) was way off the pace of the other cars to the tune of 4secs a lap but I thought I'd at least have Donni and maybe the elans to fight in the race.
First 6 laps bared that out and I had a good scrap with Donni that looked like it might last all race. Sadly it lasted 6 laps then my car just kept oversteerring off the track at every opportunity. When I checked my race setup in the garage I had stupidly put meds just on the rear  :taz: disappointing.

I forgot about the awkward start.. I just watched the count, and went when the numbers started rolling
looked like it caught Guiseppe out  though :(

I include the ST2.5 because "someone might want to use it" my Pork times are so off the pace compared to
what good drivers can do I am reluctant to include one that I get the same times in as the other cars.
It was too slow in this company though. an IROC would likely have been too fast, and the RSR2.8 would definitely
have been.
Spent most of the race trying to keep ALex behind as he had good pace in the Capri, fell off a few times letting
people past, passed some as they in turn fell off, made a cheeky pass on ALex on the last lap which he
politely didn't make too awkward  ;D

I only tried the Elan and 911 and was about 7 tenths slower in the 911. The Elan was also far more stable - the 911 needing a somewhat extreme setup to get through the fast corners with any decent speed and without losing the backend. I seem to recall that Goodwood has a lower level of grip compared to other tracks, which may have been a factor..

Anyway, with limited practise time i went with the easy option of the Elan, and had a nice battle with SuperSwift's similar car. Much fun til SS made a slight mistake at T1 letting me through, and then seemed to drop back a little. Shame, as i had the feeling that was going to be a battle right to the end..

Congrats podium.

A bit miffed about this race TBH, but I can only blame myself. As Clive noticed I was OK for the early laps, but...............

On Wed evening I had 30 mins to try the cars. Immediately dropped the Elan as being very driveable but, for me, lacking in raw pace. Likewise the Porker, it was a nice drive but needed some very aggressive and "on the ragged edge" cornering to extract times anywhere near those that I could get from the Escort 1800,.

So it was Capri or Escort??. Eventually settled for the Capri because I found that I could run that on hard tyres and be almost as quick as the Escort that needed mediums to make it work in my hands. There was no way that the mediums would last the race distance under my right foot.  That left the Capri.

I fiddled with the setup and gradually chipped away at my pace with race fuel. PB was a low 1:23 on full tanks but unlikely that I could maintain that pace and survive. But a steady 1:24-25 was quite realistic.

The start was confusing as I could see the front cars leap away and no-one else moved!! So I paused.. just long enough for about 27 cars to pass me on the run to T1!!! Ok, wait for some heat in the tyres before pushing too hard. I think it was Frex in front of me with his Elan in the early laps and I was able to nail the exit from the chicane and use the extra grunt from the Capri to pick up a place. Then the fast boys went into the pits and couple of others went haymaking and I was running 4th?? with Mr Loynes recovering in my mirrors.

I got distracted and ran slightly wide at St Mary's, ending up sideways across the tarmac. Worried that I would impeded the following pack I nailed it and T boned the barrier on the inside. That damaged the suspension and from then on the car was not handling as well. Although I caught and passed a clearly struggling Mark in his Porker I was losing time to the rest of the field and could manage only a 1:27 at best....so I parked it and wandered off muttering curses under my breath :-\
It might have been better, it could not have been worse.

Yes, the start was “strange” and I first thought that the front runners did that on purpose, so that they could regain the complete field again during the race (not the first time I’ve seen an alien doing that ;))

After the first lap I found myself in 3rd position, just behind Alex in 2nd. But from the Qualy times, I knew that the fast-ones were coming. Also I was very curious to frex´ lap times, as he didn´t complete a lap during Qualy and we were in the same car (Elan).

Than after a couple of laps when everything settled a bit, I was having a great dice with frex. In the end I lost it a bit under pressure and run wide. After that I made another mistake and frex was gone and the nearest car was 25 sec away. So a lonely 2nd part of the race, but joyful non the less.

Congrats podium and all finishers!

LOL

Don't think that I have ever seen the start lights at Goodwood but have sat on the grid a couple of times staring at the pit lights.

I just use the timer at this circuit.

LOL, someone even think that we did it on purpose?
I simply missed the start, I thought I saw from the time ... but unfortunately it was not and I was disqualified  :cursing: I'm getting old :wheelchair:
Federico was misled by my error and had to make a stop and go...sorry Fede  :stupid:
I'm disappointed because I really like this car  :thumbup1:

See you next

I guess this was your little 'revanche' for a previous race at goodwood  ;)
Was a good one, I managed to not completely fall off anywhere, didn't pit, and was 3 secs a lap down towards the end
but would have lost more pitting so stayed out, Let Alex through thinking he was a lapper or lappeee, as I was concentrating
on where Tibs was going to go next, then realised I had polited myself out of a place
Tina was probably the car to use after Falcon, but I was slower in it than the mini.
Grats Pody

Had a great race. Because of the confusion at the start was running in the top3.
Then ran out of talent and nerves, making 5 mistakes.
Was fun with all the battles around without _any_ contact.

ps. Matt, was running Goodyears so got probably a bit more grip..

ahh fair enough, I was not aware of the tyre differences with the 2600
