If I created a 'my favourite top five tracks' list, this place would be on it since the very first time I raced here back in my GTL days. Great track whatever they call it.

Not a patch on the original Osterreichring tho IMO. Now that is a top 5 track If it's the version without the silly chicane at the first turn.

Struggling big time with admin at the moment, not been home for two weeks and this week I am on an
even slower hotel wifi. It takes seconds for anything to click and drops me out every few mins

I managed to do the results for last week eventually. Dutch_TR8 please could you create a profile if you
will race with us again? it makes the results awkward if cars or drivers are unknown to the system, and we had
both last week. I was just kicked off the server as Tony logged on to do tonight's GTL event.
I am somewhat handicapped as I can't see which version of the track I tested on at home, and can't zip it up
to upload it...

EDIT: Suggested track was 2001 so have updated link for that

last week there were a few extra things - unregistered member/cars to sort

I've not qualified last on the grid in about 4 years!

Very enjoyable event as not only was I not bashed of track (possibly the 1st time in 2014 :-\), but I had MJ up my tail pipe from lap1 to about lap 18  :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop: & with only ever inches between us, there was not so much as a snip of paint swapping. MJ you're a gent & a plesure to race :euro:

Nice car/track combo this and one that always seems to suit my driving.

Qualied 2nd behind Federico and spent the first few laps trying to work out where I could possibly pass. Coming onto the s/f straight seemed like the best option as I was able to carry more speed through the final corners but I couldn't get enough of a run up to T1. About 6 laps in I took advantage of a mistake in the final sector and took the lead.

Was able to build up a comfortable gap until with a few laps to go I doubled shifted into T1 and spun  ::) Fortunately by that time I was far enough ahead and drove on for the win.

grats to the pody and a good night for us Kerbies  :thumbup2:

Cracking race at a great track that always seems to create brilliant racing  :thumbup1:

I had a duff qually as missed pre race praccy and bit of qual when I had to reboot the PC. Took a few laps to build a rhythm and put in some quicker laps to jump a few places at the end of the sesh.  :)

Race was superb from lights to flag. The grid looked very cool with a nice mix of great looking race cars  8)
I had an 18 lap battle with me old mucker Legzy in his shiny Beemer and there wasn't a cigarette paper between us in many corners.  :fencing:
He finally cracked under pressure in sector 2-3 and I got passed and set about building a cushion knowing his car was faster on the straights. With this achieved I then chased provaceteur and Clive up ahead who were battling away. I closed and joined the fight as provs tyre shredding monster was really slow in the corners and really fast on the straights! So we had to be very patient behind it only to watch it zoom off!
Sadly they had a race incident on the sf straight and I found myself 6th. I assaulted Clive for all I could but he did some very robust door shutting  :o and I could see it would end in tears if I pushed too much. Crossed the line on his tailpipe  ;D

This set of cars are excellent and seem really balanced nicely  :thumbup2:  big congrats to the rapid podium   8)

the thing about this track, it's a really good balance offering something in equal amounts for every cars strength.
If you're in the Vette you can monster it down the straights, the Pork owned the corners & the BMW was somewhere in the middle on both, but it felt like no car had the advantage. 8)

Congratulations to our podium finishers!  24Ktop, frex & federico, respectively.  Well done, fellas.

A 50-50 race for me in the BIG 'vette.  Some thrilling action late in the going punctuated by numerous offs and spins.

The extra mass for fuel needed for the 24 laps made a substantial difference in the handling of the car even though it's a heavy-weight to begin with.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  :)

An early incident involved Postal where I clipped his RR corner and sent him off.  Sorry, Postal.  But then again, you did run the entire straightaway up the right-hand side only to carve hard left directly in front of me as we set up for Gosser.  Couldn't slow in time, a collision and we were both off.  You kinda dug your own grave there, bud.  Modern-day blocking tactics?  BLAH!

Ultimately, I got into a good dice with Clive that lasted many a lap.  Legzy and Mark weren't far behind for the most part.  Around Lap16, I felt the tyres giving out and it was proving a tuff slog.  The corner listed as Gerhard Berger was a positive nightmare.  Even under the best of circumstances, it's tricky with its off-camber banking.  As the street-stock BFG's started to cave, it was like driving on ice through there.

Late in the going, Mark passed Legzy to close in our both Clive and myself.  I finally managed to pass Clive's BMW with only a couple of laps to run and I was looking pretty solid for a P5 finish.  The schlip und schlide of the Corvette cost me a couple of times, though, as Clive slipped by again and I had to rely on the Chevy ponies to come to my rescue.  Great stuff there between Clive, Mark and I.  :)

Coming off the last corner to start the last lap, I was home-free.  On a lap's basis, our three cars in a group were pretty equal on performance but with two long straights next up, I could count on breaking away to a clean advantage.  The Corvette slid wide on exit and as I started to get it straightened out for a run down past the pits, Clive side-swiped me.  Didn't leave me much to play with there, did you, Clive?  :(  It wasn't a hard hit but with no adhesion left to speak of, I had no hope whatsoever of saving the 'vette from a ricochet off into the barriers.  End of the race for me.

Indeed a good track and some awesome cars. I actually got in some pre-race practice this time, where i got some Beemer setup tips from Frex. Thanks mate, that shaved another second!

In qualy the car felt fine so i pumped out most of the fuel and went for a balls out, flying lap with less then 3 min to go and managed to settle in the middle of the grid, which i reckon is quite good for my ability's  :P. Had a good start and was running side by side with Geoffers i think , but needed a bit more curb then was good for me because of the heavy fuel load and cold tires. With 4 laps underway and still having the front runners in visual range, it was shaping up to be an exiting race until i was up in the graveltrap suddenly.

Actually thought it was a braking error as the rear came round heavily. Doni my man, i didn't even know you where there. Because of my aging system i only run rearview mirror under a button on my wheel. I check it regularly and i didn't notice anyone behind me when we started coming onto the backstraight. (normaly there is also a sound of a car breathing down your neck, didnt hear you this time) If i knew you where there i might have taken a slightly different line there. Then again you knew there followed a sharp right-hander, so it should not have been to much of a suprise i switched to the left of the track into the braking zone? Glad you could continue without anymore trouble though.
After that is went quite lonely and in my hast to make up time i spun two more times. grrrrr. Matt, these cars deserve another outing this season if i am concerned!  ;D
(S15 hint Tony if you read this )

Next week starts my holiday so i think i will be back with you guys end of August. Happy racing!

 Clive side-swiped me.

That quite frankly isn't true.  I was holding a steady line and you hit me!  And you had more than a vette width to play with too.

I had no ambitions with regard passing you as the vette was just about to blow me away down the straight but I had to make a good exit so that MJ didn't get me too!

As soon as I have my racing pc booted up I shall log an incident report, which is what you should have done before making such accusations.

Also, the cars that I saw in the race were paying very little attention to the white lines, again!

Lonely old race for me, didn't have the pace to stay with the podium guys & was fairly well clear of the dice between Doni & Clive. Still it was a good 1-2-4 result for the Kerbies & I'm just ahead in the championship.  ;D

Congrats to GT, Frex & Federico  :thumbup2:

See ya all at Oran Park for the Minis (Clive's favourite!)

Thanks to Tony for doing the server duties. I am back home for the next two weeks so normal service
will be resumed.
This event was MJ's suggestion so you have him to thank for it.  :thumbup1:

@Doni It's ok to mention that you went off or suchlike, but we try to avoid naming and shaming in this forum

If you feel you were wronged then put in an incident report and the moderators will have a look at it
if it wasn't a big deal then just say you traded paint with "someone", rather than go into detail with names etc.
Not a crime, it's just how we traditionally deal with these things

WHOA!  Hold on here, Clive & Matt...

I didn't slag you, Clive.  I called it as I saw it.  I had great difficulty handling the 'vette on worn-out tyres and you made little effort to avoid me in surging up on my right.  I note that immediately after side-swiping me...and that's the way to call it, isn't it?; not likely that I would try to side-swipe you, is there?..., you seamlessly moved over to the far left lane.  If I was still there, where would I have expected to drive?  Up the grass verge?  As I see it, you could have tempered your zeal to pass me with a little more courtesy.  Considering the terrific race-long duel, you can't feel too happy and satisfied at how it turned out, can you?

I'm not angry at the collision and my immediate retirement due to damage.  It was a thrill a minute!  I'm disappointed in having a good and enjoyable race come to a sad end.

Matt...  My comments in my initial post re Clive are not hostile in the least and I do not see where I should have to mollify such posts.  If I was furious, feeling hard done by and were to be of a mind to file a protest, I wouldn't have mentioned the incident at all but proceeded to file paperwork.  As far as I'm concerned, it was a racing incident and the case is closed.

Doni

Please don't discuss who's fault anything was or wasn't in the forum, how it would be called etc.
however obvious it might seem to you. It just causes flame wars.
I understand where you are coming from, no worries, but you saw Clive's reaction,
and if it was a racing incident, then just say so without "you turned into me" "you didn't give me any room" etc etc
not everyone may be as circumspect about it as yourself.

Please remain calm, it's not a big deal, just please try to avoid even the most vague indication of blame
in race reports if you can. People sometime apologise in here if they felt they had wronged someone
and that usually gets a "no worries" from the other guy, or not depending on how they feel, in which case
someone might put in a report. I hardly ever put in reports even if I feel someone cut me up or shoved me
off as I mostly trust our members to not be people who would do it deliberately, as I think you also feel.

Next event is mini's so that will be some close racing with luck, and Clive is a great fan of Minis  :whistling:

Doni,

If this were GPL then I have to agree with you that I did you a great disservice!

But it isn't GPL.  The crash engine in PnG allows us to swap paint samples without dire consequences, whereas in GPL to "share" a corner you basically have to divide the track width in half and use half each.

I shall look at my replay again when I get the chance but I looked immediately after the race because I was worried that I may have done the dirty on you.  When I looked at it, it appeared to me that I was running parallel to the track direction and not heading any further towards you when we touched.  I wouldn't make any assumptions with regard to where I went after the impact as that will have been influenced by the impact itself.  I was aware that we had touched and looking in my mirrors I could see that you had fallen back.

@ MJ  A robust defence was always on the cards after I had spent the whole race fighting off Doni's rocket ship.   ;D  My BMW seemed to have the legs on your Porsche but your tyres were obviously in better nick.

I used softs as the mediums seemed to be too slow at the start of the race.

As for the track, I still prefer the old version from GPL.  I was having to use first gear in the second right hander, probably Remus.  But I take Legzy's point that it had something of everything in equal proportions so that a wide range of cars were close.  They may have been even closer if people had paid any attention to the white lines.   ::)

Fun race, thoroughly enjoyable, particularlay the battle with Federico.

I take Clive's point about the white line issue and checking through the replay briefly i don't think anyone kept within the lines for the entire race (not even Clive). However in all cases i really doubt it was ever deliberate, or that it had any bearing on the race results. Despite this i did in fact try and give P2 back to Federico at the end, but being the gentleman driver he refused to come back past me.

Anyway it was much fun.. Congrats to GT for the win and Federico for the podium.

Clive & Matt...

Sorry for violating forum policy.  Believe me, I'm in no way intending to get something on the front burner here.  Clive's a good fella and I respect him fully.  Just related my disappointment at a cruel retirement after a slight contact issue.  In the replay, I did veer slightly to the right as the pig of a Corvette finally responded to my steering inputs and a moment later, Clive ripped by.  I do not view the side-swipe as an intentional knerf to put me off.  I don't believe that I said that it was, did I?  Anyway...  Just a minor racing incident with dire consequences for me.  I had fun and that's the main thing.

Re putting four wheels over the white lines...  I'm guilty of a number of violations but none was intentional.  The Corvette is not a handy piece of kit.  Also, many a time, I lost sight altogether of just where the apex was as I peered the voluminous plumes of tyre smoke put up by Clive!

Looking forward to the round at Oran Park in the Minis!

Twas rather a spectacular blowup.  Climbing the rise to end the lap, I was completely enveloped by huge cloud of smoke pouring from the Pantera.

I got compensation, though.  I enjoyed the aroma since Jarda was using Castrol R.  :)
