Post by: Wiltshire Tony on August 09, 2014, 02:34:24 PM +0100
UKGTL Season 14 Christmas Special
Part Two
The Sprints

Christmas Special Standings here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=464&theme=5)

Grid/server capacity: 28 (we run on the Altbierbuden Lobby)

RACE ONE

Track: Rouen '55 Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg187122#post_rouen)

Cars allowed: Any standard TC-65 car

Practice: ~19:00 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:00 (10 mins)
Race: 20:10 (8 laps)

Only one lap allowed to set a time in qualifying. So drivers must take one out lap then one hot lap.

Car restrictions: None

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Note earlier qualifying start time.

Tony, race 2, with 'Car restrictions: none', does that mean ANY car (we've used before ?), or any STANDARD car ?

Cheers,
Erling

Tony, I'm still confused  ???

Race announcement says 'Race one', which along with the earlier start time and shortened qualify, indicates that there must be at least two races, but where is the description of the second one ?

Cheers,
Erling

I DID think I had seen three races earlier, but couldn't find the other two, so started to believe I had been hallucinating...

Anyway, thanks for clearing it up - and for putting the thumbscrews on for next week  ;D

Erling

Tony, what happens if you get a 'cut track' warning on your hot lap, and thus no registered time - do you then just start from the back of the grid, or can you do an extra lap, to get a time ?

Cheers,
Erling

This was an uneventful race for me.  The front runners were setting quite an unbelievable pace, so no hope of keeping up.  First lap was a bit of en eye opener, when we got to the back straight, with the 4 parallel lanes.  I noticed the front runners all pulling completely left here.  That had never occurred to me in offline practice!  Could this be the secret of their fast laps ?  I tried it too, but having never done it before, I had to err on the side of caution, as I didn't know how much later you could brake, and how much faster you could enter the curve.  Didn't affect my laptimes much though.  Through the entire race, gaps to cars in front and behind grew at the same rate, so it quickly turned lonely.  Thought I had finished 4th, but it was upgraded to 3rd, by Pelle's unfortunate exit - at least you went out with a bang...  ;)

Cheers,
Erling

Great battle with Tony - unfortunately position changes between Tony and me
cannot be seen in Pelle's report (thanks for that!) because Tony always was
ahead at the starting line  ;D .

Great fun!
