Title: UKGPL Season 27 (2014) Privateers Trophy (67) - Rouen - Aug 17
Post by: Phil Thornton on August 11, 2014, 07:23:56 PM +0100
Season 27 Privateers Trophy - Round 2 - Rouen

From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

Race List = IGOR
Server = T7
IP = 62.149.202.168
Race date = Sunday 17-08-2014
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Rouen (Papy original)
Race length = 25 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/Grads_Privs/)

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=452&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Beauval on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=452&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Whereas we GPLers recognize it as a tricky b@stard.... especially that bloody hairpin with the gorilla sized polos

Don't forget the big plexiglas door  just before the hairpin (on the left hand side for the lucky ones who have not noticed yet) . Talk to my Cooper about it. Poor little thing ...

I really enjoy the challenge that is Rouen in the 67 cars, but I have to be realistic in setting my goals for the race. I hope that I can make it to 50% race distance.  :P

Had a bit of a coming together with Francesco at sciere on the last lap , not sure who was at fault , will let the mods decide , not that it will make much difference to my result . I started off badly then it got worse as the race progressed  .

Spent the first few laps fending Francesco off then he dropped back somehow , then soon after I made a mistake and he got ahead of me , we swapped places a few times due to both making errors i think rather than any fighting,  then I did sciere all wrong , I got stuck behind the "do nots"  and by the time I could get away again the whole world had passed me by .

Not one of my best performances , getting to old for this racing stuff these days and my team boss Mr Arther Ritus doesn't help much  Roll Eyes

Grats to Phil and the podium chaps

well done to all who finished .

Bernie, coincidently, I had wondered if I was too old to not make mistakes during the race, and shortly after that I messed up my braking into the Scierie corner and was stuck in the barrier.  :wheelchair:

My race result could have been better but I am happy! I was gaining confidence in the car during the race. I enjoyed driving this track more and more each lap. I raced in close proximity with four or five different drivers. It was a good race. I was only hampered by my own mistakes. Neither of my crashes were very big. On one instance, I had to use a shift - R because I do not have a reverse gear.  I'll keep practicing.
Good race all!
Walter

Right,also for me is the same but i have no replay to check.The replay is not available,if i try a download is again Mosport.
I have done so many error in this race that from the 4 position i went down the end of the race rank.My big problem was the brakes,probably a wrong calibration.

Another rather scrappy performance - much like the rest of the season.

Lost the right side of the headphones - which annoyingly kicked back in for the hairpin bends. Looks like a visit to the shops will be necessary before the season restarts.
Early on I span in Nouveau Monde & I think there was some contact with Michael on the rejoin. I did wait for following traffic, but obviously not long enough. Made slight amends by giving the place back.
After that it was a case of driving slightly less worse than the cars in front until I got up to fourth & then focus really hard to avoid being lapped.
Good drives up the top from Phil & Dave. I have got below 2.00 at Rouen in a 67 car - once - but that wasn't in a Brabham.

Quite pleased with my driving in that race.  I improved by Brabham PB which is always nice.

Had to concentrate hard to keep Dave at bay, I went wide at T1 at about half distance and lost all the lead I had carefully built up.  Thankfully I didn't hit anything and I could continue undamaged.

Grats to all finishers.  This is a tough track to get right, I think it is the hardest of the original papy tracks to get right.  Too easy to make a mistake into the hairpin and you have to get the power down early on the climb from the hairpin to get a good time in.  Very difficult!

Was surprised to have found myself sitting in 2nd place for the start of the race;  was REALLY surprised to still be in the same position come the end of the race!

Phil was just to quick for me. Couldn't hang on;  he was just consistently easing away (as in, he was easily getting further & further ahead).  He didn't quite lose enough time to let me pass halfway through ;)  but I'm sure he'd have caught/passed me again anyway.  And he managed to show off by getting a 1:58 too!

Jonny's BRM behind seemed too close for too long.  I was certain he'd be past at some point;  was somewhat relieved when it seemed a small gap was slowly opening up.  Of course; I was well aware that any mistake would have meant a more difficult run.

Not looked back at much of the replay,  but the GPLRA report seems to suggest that Phil/me/Jonny had a easy/boring time of it; but just behind it was obviously all kicking off!  Looks as if Billy must have been busy;  getting right to the back of the line then getting up to 4th.

I've only managed to get under 2:00 here a handful of times & 2 were this event  [which is both of them since 2010!].   Overall, I'm happy with that Internet setup I grabbed a few laps before the event...

Congrats again Phil.

Cheers all,
Dave.

Fran/Bernie, if you want me to moderate it, please report the incident.

To all Privateers, please report eventual incidents before next Monday 25th of August! Congrats Phil for the win and Dave and Jonny for podium! :)
