Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 11 & 12 - Panchine - CanAm

Welcome to the next round for the Friday Trophy at Panchine. A very convincing fantasy track imagined to be in North Italy. Fast, sweeping circuit with traps for the unwary. There are a couple of jumps, a tricky turn or two and very sticky hedges, so be careful. It is a relatively long circuit so space should open up, but slipstreaming might be crucial whether you are in front or behind.

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

This week will be CanAm's,
Light drivers are restricted to not use the big 4: McLaren M8F+D, Lola T260 and Shadow MK2
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

I found some time to practice today, and I am happy to say that the Can Am cars fit nicely on this track. The straight section is a lot shorter with 700 +/- horsepower, and the down-force helps keep the car planted.

CanAms are nuts at most places (try Monza10k and tweak the gearing!), but are right at home here!! This is gonna be fun. :)

EDIT: I get the feeling the keys to the M8F and M8D will be taken away from me... already in the 1:39s in both chassis...

My best laptime so far is 1:40.99 in the Lola 260, but I am not finished tweaking the set-up. I am really enjoying the physics on the Can-Am mod right now.

Hi Walter - not seen you at an online practice session yet.  With Moderators going overboard to try to stop sinful crashes on raceday, it's strange Cookie is the only one to provide a regular pre-race Server.  Real drivers hone their racecraft in close company, and we should do likewise.   Can-Am Ai do not perform well, and will never properly substitute for human victims.  Mobile roadblock provided free of charge. ;D

Good idea! It has been a while since I've tried hosting a IGOR practice session. Is it a simple thing to do, or are there some helpful tips that I can read? I'll see if I can do a practice session online tomorrow.
Cheers,
WC

EDIT: I forgot that I'll be painting the living room of my house tomorrow during our normal practicing hours. However, I should be able to practice from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM GMT

Now that's a coincidence, as I expect to paint the scenery, with the help of about 700bhp.  Unusual hour chosen for online use, but I'll watch for your Server.

I'm ill-equipped to host, so not good as a guide.  Try your luck, and if some daredevil appears on your Igor screen, grab those Horses and hang on! :o

Nothing of note on Igor, so I went F2'ing with Mark at Brands, at a suitable hour 'down under.'   A session some evening, with a knowledgeable Server server, and live chat, would soon restore your providing powers, I imagine Walter, if unsuccessful today. :(

Progress report :  high noon and a Can-Am Server looms into view.  Igor, blimey it's up, but am unable to join.  I think a switch to PM may be needed, to continue with this, but suspect an expert is needed.

Walter, to host you have to open some ports in the firewall ;)

Not a good idea if it is your allround PC ::)

But there are some workarounds....

Depends on your net router and how you can configure it.

I am happy to hear that the firewall is working. Thanks for the help! -WC

EDIT: I wanted to share my Lola 260 set-up in case it helps any of my fellow Heavy drivers. There are two setups in a zipped folder. The only difference in the two setups are the gearing. I had not finished testing to see which is faster/easier to drive.

...Depends on your net router and how you can configure it...

Easiest way I've found: put your race server in a DMZ. This will remove all protection from the firewall/NAT server in the router, so make sure your antivirus and PC-side firewall are in good shape.

Not quite as simple, but still fairly easy: port forwarding (usually available through the "Advanced Setup" pages in your router). GPL uses ports 6970 and 6971 for broadcast and ping responses, and 32766-32786 for client-server communications. Add these external port ranges where you need to, set so they go to the same internal ports to the internal IP address for your server (something like 192.168.x.x, mine's 192.168.1.15). You can find the internal IP for your race server from an "Attached Devices" list or something.

Also, make sure to set your race server to a "reserved" internal IP address on your LAN. This will make it keep the same internal IP address even if you reboot it. If it reboots and gets set to a different internal IP address, the port forwarding won't go to the right place.

"How-to" pages for setting up port forwarding and reserving an internal IP address for your make of router should be readily available. If you have issues, just ask.

I had fun tonight. I made one mistake in the first race. The mistake was on the last lap, and I lost one place to Dave C. The second race was more tragic with several collisions taking place in front of me on the first lap. After half of the race distance, I wrecked on my own in turn one. Luckily, the car was not damaged, and my pace actually improved after the wreck. I was gifted one position by Dean! Then I was very nervous on the last lap, and nearly wrecked several times.

Good race,
Walter

Farewell to Panchine - a really good fake track that provides some really good racing.  Heat 1 is a bit of a blur, but Heat 2 was a good race with DL in the faster-than-it-looks Lola.
