Title: UKGPL Season 27 (2014) Privateers Trophy (67) - Surfers Paradise - Jan 4
Post by: Phil Thornton on September 09, 2014, 12:09:54 AM +0100
Season 27 Privateers Trophy - Round 3 - Surfers Paradise

Please note this race has been rescheduled due to server problems on the original event date, the rerun is due for 4th January 2015.

Surfers Paradise International Raceway was a motor racing complex at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The 3.219 kilometres (2.000 mi) long circuit was designed and built by Keith Williams, a motor racing enthusiast who also designed and built the Adelaide International Raceway (AIR) in South Australia in 1972.  The circuit was mainly used for Sports Car racing most notably in 1966 when Jackie Stewart and Andrew Buchanan won the Group A Sports Cars race in a Ferrari 250LM.  Formula 1 cars never raced here but there was a race for Open-Wheel cars in 1975 in the guise of the Australian Formula 1 series.

Race List = IGOR

Race date = Sunday 4-01-2015

Track = Surfers Paradise (Add-on track see here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/tracks/SurfersParadise/))

Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/Grads_Privs/)

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=452&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Turn 5 on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=452&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Hi Jason
Welcome back, processed your registration, you should see the password when it is released.  It looks like you haven't raced much since we were team mates in Green GT back in season 23.  Hope you can manage regular attendance, it isn't too late to grab enough points for a good championsip finish.  Get some practice in, we have a competitive division this season but there is a good spread of abilities.  If you manage to avoid trouble you will get some good racing in and will have a great season.
Cheers
Phil

Looking forward to getting back into this.... just a shame that my wife has picked up a sunday evening shift at work and needs picking up at 9:30 tomorrow....
I'll see y'all in pre-race chat tomorrow but will have to delay my racing return until the next one.....

Ah, it's just as well since I had not practiced much. I have been busy watching Goodwood and ELMS this weekend.

Very sorry about the server problems tonight gents.  I remotely logged onto the server to see what was going on.  GPL was crashing because it couldn't find glide2x.dll.  As far as I know glide2x.dll is an old Voodoo driver and we shouldn't need it.  Will need to investigate further to find out what is wrong but reinstalling drivers is a bit outside our remit, we need to contact the server admins to find out if anyone has installed something recently that might have affected GPL.

So there was no race tonight? I was just too tired after a busy weekend so I simply fell asleep this evening.

Afraid so, all you slept through was me trying in vain to get the server running.  Our Chief Mod, Paul, did get the server running after the Works race had finished but unfortunately it was too late to run the Privateers.  The consolation is that we think we know what I had done wrong to cause GPL to fail to run.  I had connected via RDC instead of VNC in order to start IGOR in listening mode.  Quite why that seems to upset GPL is a complete mystery at the moment but it doesn't matter anyway, I know what not to do next time.

I suggest we reschedule this race at the end of the season.  Unfortunately that will push it into the Christmas period so it will probably be best to schedule it for Sunday 4th Jan 2015.  Is that OK for everyone?

Hope you lot have practised for this one. UKGPL9 is set with a (hopefully) loose grid and 43 laps on Long length. I had to create the grid manually as I could find no loose grid in my collection.

Yes, Thank you

I was looking at my tokens. I think that I have ten. Does that mean that I can afford the Lotus for this race?

Thanks,
WC

Yes.  The 10 you have + the 10 for starting = 20

Bailed out when there was an incident with a car lapping me.
From the replay didn't look like my mistake. Stuff happens.

Tough race, grats to JonnyO and David.  Hard luck George, good racing!

Sorry for not staying on server to wish congratulations.  Having major problems ATM.  Everytime I go back to menu GPL crashes to destop.  I've installed something which doesn't agree with GPL  ::)

Hopefully I'll get it sorted for Season 28!

No it wasn't you fault. I had plenty of room to go around you from where I was sat and I judged there to be good separation between the two cars, next minute GPL says you're much closer than it thought and the separation distance vanishes. Frustrating. Not the first time, a car has appeared a lot closer than it seemed before. I'm beginning to suspect I have iffy latency online; it doesn't cause warping but every now and again, things seem to close up a lot quicker under braking than it initially indicated. Intensely irritating. Judging by the violent way my car flipped after what looked like a low speed nerf of the Brabham's gearbox, the two cars were probably deemed to have overlapped.

Anyway, I shudda picked the Lotus, I had the credits to do so but went with the Eagle. The V12 sounds glorious but it lacks torque when I needed it in the twisty bits, either that or my gearing was a load of.....

My apologies to Michael Turner for the incident going into turn three (the first left hand corner). I had just looked up at Prib, and it looked like I was 20 ft in front of the next car. So I did not give as much room as I would have if I had known someone was on the inside of me. Maybe next time I will try to look to my left before turning into the corner. I was able to continue undamaged, and it looks like you were able to continue also. I enjoyed having Michael and Bernie to chase, and also thanks to Pierre for chasing. The Lotus was really nice to drive. See you all next season.

I thought it was 50:50 Walter - I should probably have been a bit more over to the left - but I don't think the incident had any bearing on the final result.
Congratulations to the Champion and on to a new season
