Season 27 Amateurs Trophy - Round 4 - Pacific Raceways

The fourth round of the Season 27 championship for the Amateurs will be hosted in Washington State of the west coast of the USA. The track has been used on a couple of occasions in the past but please make sure you have the 67 version – download from the link. It is typical of tracks built for Can Am muscle cars with a long, wide straight, an essess section & a dog-leg turn. Similar to Riverside but rather more green. The back part of the course is quite narrow.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under INT rules and only one reset is allowed, followed by a stop and go in the pits.

Please note that this is now 28 laps - 30 would require world record + pace...

Ooooh - tough race. Wiped out at T1 but just one of those things. Made up a million places and then lost several when JP slid past and I over-braked, thinking I was going to hit him. Then had a few laps being closed down by Martin who applied Ghost mode as he passed which made it a bit tough for me to avoid him so I took to the grass and crashed. Martin zoomed off having de-cloaked and set phasers to stun.

After that had fun chasing Bill down and finally caught him but found that I suddenly felt really sick. Chinese meal, wine and Paci Raceways do not mix well.

Pulled off hoping for better things to come.

That was a fun and exciting race. Congrats to Johnny! I had a few problems during qualifying so I only did a few laps. I made some last minute set-up changes to make the car easier to drive on the backside of the track. I still felt like I was threading a needle! The start of the race went pretty good. I managed to get through the first two corners side by side with not a scratch. My race was going according to plan until Johnny arrived at my rear bumper. I bowed to the pressure in the last corner and left the door open. I slowly started going quicker, but I also made more mistakes. I was lucky that I finished in 2nd position after two off track excursions. In one instance, my wife came into the room and started talking to me, and then I come flying over a hill to see a stationary car facing the wrong direction. The next thing I knew I was driving amongst the trees looking to rejoin the track. My wife stopped talking mid sentence and left the room. lol. But no harm was actually done to my car or the trees. Good race everyone!

A pb in qualifying but bad start- brain not in gear.  I managed a spin on lap one setting me towards the back and thought this should be fun with plenty of drivers in front.  Several slid off to let me through and I had several side by side moments -Rog/bb/Rainier I hope I did not cause any accidents but the forum today may say otherwise. Some great racing with the chaps at the front and fortunate to come first. Well done Walter on a good finish and fastest lap. Thanks all see you next time

Things were looking good here - the PR machine was well oiled, and the prime grid spot was no surprise.  It was obvious the track liked me, and the Honda seemed to work better than expected.

No surprise to maintain the lead off the line, and open a healthy gap thereafter.  Little did I know there was something nasty, waiting round the bend.  Someone had left a dirty great lump alongside the track, which cruelly reached out and grabbed me by the Honda, and threw my helmet against the track!  My race setup was not suitably setup for this, and ye race lead was not helped by this unexpected head start. :-\

Confident of my machines ability to hug the track, I'd only looked at the pit entry once during practice.  Now, thanks to a reckless track geologist, I had to go find it again at full racing speed, to S&G!  Sadly, I failed!  Had to back up a few old fashioned yards, and head towards the back of the field.  Grumble!  The race was lost, but a fun time continued, whilst trying to make headway.

Looks like some tremendous dicing from those ahead, with an impressive come from behind winner.  It seems the front of the grid was not the place to be.  I was sure the track liked me - right up until getting kissed by an ugly lump! :hammer:

Sounds like you found the invisible launch pad rock in the esses . I was sure to give it a wide berth after finding it in practise because after the race start I realised i too had absolutely no idea where the pit entrance was  ::)

My excuse (I have more excuses than British Rail) was being wrong-footed by the lap record times in the race post. It said 1.25 in a ’65 car. I realised this was on a different version of the track but my practice run on Monday night yielded a 1.25 which I thought would be there or there abouts.
Come qualifying I realised it wasn’t.
Wasted half of qualifying finding the deceptive pit lane entrance.
First few laps were spent exploring the green bits as much as the grey bits. I think I might have also tested out the hidden rock in the ess section, although this could be equally due to my erratic driving.
At least the second half of the race was a bit more consistent.
On balance I quite like Pacific Raceway.

Grats to JP on win
Grats to Podium
Was quite pleased to qual 4th in the Fez, just could not match you guys in the Honda`s and BRM`s. Got a good start and was 2nd trying to hang on to Martin but did not last long Rainier passed me lap 5 and Walter passed me on the next lap, JP closed on lap 7 and unfortunately slid wide corner 8 and took me out, car not damaged just lost a bit of time, now had some great racing with with Dave C up to lap 20 when he dropped back ( thanks for your patience Dave C) last few laps Martin was gaining on me but luckily race finished before he could catch me.

I was within sight of that fiendish red Devil on the last lap.  My overly friendly rock was a dirty great vertical one.  I believe some wayward backmarker, must've caused a landslide on lap 4, and I'd neglected to add a stick of Dynamite to my setup. :taz:
