Looks like 4 drivers have to use Group B cars, I'm tied for 3rd with Clive!  ::)

Think it will only be three Geoffers, as this is our wedding aniversary and for reasons of domestic harmony, and safety, I shall not be able to take part.   :'(

Much closer choice than last time. Next one after this may be more different.

The PnG community really is an uncomunicative bunch.

If I don't put something outrageous on these threads for people to get up-tight about then nobody says anything!

Lively banter is what we need!

I was discussing this with a past GPL competitor recently and I think that the format for racing in GPL has a lot to do with its longevity.  In GPL, everyone meets in a lobby and exchanges setup tips and insults ahead of the race and then the server is launched.  After the race, GPL allows a long period of chat whereas PnG chucks everyone out for the next track.  And there is still the igor or Winroc chat room to go to.  There is much more of a community in GPL.

Sigh............Those were the days. ::)

Maybe we should book you for a guest appearance in the GPL chat room Clive. I'm sure that your rates are very reasonable ::)

Although, there still is a "gathering" pre and post race.
The quality of pre race abuse is not up to the inventive standards that I was weened on. Many drivers do hang around in chat ( or even stay on the server) ,to watch the outcome of a race from which they have had to quit because of an incident, and to discuss the result over a pie and a pint.

Regrettably sometimes, post race abuse is often just that, as emotions and subjective viewpoints often override the facts of an incident. I sometimes wonder if I have it wrong, thinking that we do this for fun, and that it a game?

:offtopic: But, I have often wondered why the GPL races don't use the same server as our other
sims? Was it something we said in the dark and distant past? We could use all the contributions we can get
these days.

Virginia is a nice track. Especially since it's merciful on your car, if it suddenly decides to go astray. My Vette tends to do so rather often  ;D

Well, interesting that you raise that question. Because we are having some issues with the server that we rent some space on (T7 in Italy I think?). It does seem a bit crazy that we share a forum and do not co-operate on server rental??

Over at UKGPL we have tried to resolve the problem with our members providing their own servers for our racers. But quite frankly you are probably talking to the wrong guy here ( ask Mr loynes about my computer skills!! ::) ).

Might I suggest that you PM Paul (aka Badblood) on the UKGPL forum and discuss possibilities with him. I will give him a heads up that you might be in touch.

Yeh, getting the car vaguely near the track for a whole lap is quite an accomplishment!  :o

Hope to join in for this but not done a lap of practise and I'm hopeless in these yank tanks, I don't do under steer and heavy metal for fun normally   :P

Just being picky about the wording in the race announcement. Shouldn't it read "Top 3 drivers in the championship standings MUST drive Group B cars ONLY" rather than "may drive" which implies there is a choice?

"must" sounds a bit harsh  :hammer: so I have made it "can"

You will not believe what a relief it is to read that several other find these Yank Tanks drive like a rudderless supertanker. My first laps of practice last night were like a nightmare with much grass cutting sceneray modification! Plus anything other than a marshmallow on the gas pedal and the rear tyres simply ignite and no matter what i do the temps will not come down unless I stop the car and wait :-\

Surviving the race without mashing it into the barriers or running on the rims looks unlikely.

@Evil. Didn't you do Tony's similar (ish) event a couple of weeks ago? Ahh actually you won it...
these cars are a little more "sensitive" but it feels much the same to me  ::)

Yes, I did the V8 series in GTL on this very track and squeaked a win. But, for some reason I find the cars in GTL relatively easy to set up and drive, whereas the identical car in PnG and on the same circuit I cannot tame.?? ???

They feel like completely different beasts to me and I cannot explain it.  I thought that as both GTL and PnG are built on the same GTR2 platform they would be more or less the same in terms of physics and response. But it seems I was wrong  :-\
Unless of course I have done something wrong, which is always a distinct possibility!!

GTL is based on GTL, which "might" have some similarity to GTR1, but P&G is based on GTR2 which changed quite a lot of struff
and it's a mod not an original game. P&G3.1 was an update that improved quite a few things, but all the changes were not
to everyone's taste  :-\

Plus GTL is old cars on modern tyres whereas p&g uses vintage tyres on vintage cars!

I think that you had it right the first time.   ;D

Top three drivers may only drive ....blah, blah, blah, means that they have permission to only drive those cars.  Which is correct.

Top three drivers can only drive ...  blah, blah, blah, implies that they lack the ability to drive anything else!   :P

lost FFB on the start line again  :(  don't know why as didn't have fanaleds this time. ??? Seems to do it if I watch someone else do a lap during qually. Bloody annoying.
Tried to do a lap or two but threading a lumbering beast on a narrow track with no feedback was impossible. Only happens in P&G  :'(

Nice track, just too narrow for these barges.

Bah, was using my stick seq shifter because my paddles are double shifting and was so concerned about getting off the line and not selecting reverse (did it a couple of times in pracci)  that I jumped the start and received a stop/go penalty. Had a chase back but when I finally got within range of Dan and Matt, they both fell off giving me an easy pass. Lonely race then  :(

Grats to John, Clive and Geoffers  8)

Grats to John and all finishers.

My best result in PnG, but somewhat tempered by the absence of certain Italians  ::).

Quite surprised to find that I got front row on the grid with a 2:12. It was about the same as I had managed in my hours practice on Wednesday and I thought it was at least 6 secs off what I was expecting to be pole. The fact that I had qualified so well gave me some comfort as it meant that what I was experiencing with these barges was much the same as everyone else, and that was a huge relief.

John was in a class of his own with 3 secs in hand over my best  :notworthy: but I was determined to try and follow him in the early laps and get a good start.

The first few laps the plan worked and John dragged me away from the chasing pack until I had about 10 secs cushion behind me. Then I got an attack of the stoopids and on consecutive laps I made mistakes until Geoffers was within 3 secs at one point  :o
From then on I concentrated on getting everything nice and smooth and just managed the tyres to the end. Still not used to this tyre wear and usually panic at half race distance when I see how little rubber I might have left. I guess I got it somewhere near right this time as I had about 20% left on all 4 wheels at the end.

Slowly getting to grips with the PnG physics and handling, but it is a bit like pushing fog uphill with a stick sometimes.

Actually more like pushing butter up a porcupine's rectum with a red hot needle!

Great result lads!

I shall have to stay away more often.   :thumbup2:

Well that went about as well as expected..! Must be just me, but really found no enjoyment trying to drive these cars ocean liners.

Looking forward to proper cars again next week..!

Congrats podium.

That went pretty well :)

I dropped down to the group B car in quali after it became apparent that none of the Team7 guys were going to be there. Had just enough time to get a couple of quick laps in before the start and sneaked back onto pole.

Clive stuck with me for quite a while and I was wondering if he'd be there to capitalise on any mistakes for the whole race, but he dropped back by about half distance. Just as well, as I locked a wheel at turn 3 and went straight on into the tyre barrier. Lost a few seconds but luckily I bounced back on and was able to nurse it home without the gap coming down by too much.

Nice track, good flow to it and rewarding to get right in these cars.

Still not used to this tyre wear and usually panic at half race distance when I see how little rubber I might have left. I guess I got it somewhere near right this time as I had about 20% left on all 4 wheels at the end.

I find the best policy is usually to drive it like you stole it, then deal with the tyre wear afterwards!

I enjoy this track too, some of the sections have unhelpful camber changes that catch you out with worn tyres
and I agree that it is rather narrow for these cars, but that's the sort of cars that run here. I think the same about
Bathhurst, it's a tight and twisty track with nutter V8s on it.

Where were the Italian? I hope Stig hasn't scared them off  ::)

Congrats to John & EvilClive, excellent pace guys.  :thumbup2:

I just could not get a setup that I was happy with. If I made the car turn better it made it more unstable & difficult to control, so stuck with an understeery setup which was more driveable. Consequently it was more of a drive round than a race, although I had a few fun laps trying to hold off Matt until he went off. Still, I grabbed a few points, which, with absence of Team 7 put me back in the points lead!  ;D

In case you guys haven't seen it, I am organising an Inter-League P&G Team event over the Christmas period. See here for details so far:

Clive could do with some support in the SROUK team!
