Another BMW/Lotus battle but featuring different models on a different track. The Lotus was slightly quicker during my brief testing so I suggest anyone under 2:26 considers jumping into the Z4 to mix things up a little.

I'll be racing this week. AC has had a new lease of life for me since dropping the resolution from 5760x1080 -> 4800x900 as the graphics now run fast enough to make it play well even with triple rendering. The framerate of this game definitely screws up the physics. It's totally incredible now and the cars feel so alive. Tried iRacing again and it just feels completely numb in comparison and the graphics are so flat in iRacing.

I would say though everytime I've played multiplayer the framerate has been significantly hit compared to single player.

Quick ways to grab back fps are by decreasing reflection and shadow settings and disabling things like motion blur (or even all post processing hdr effects as I do).

I also find that in game vsync works very well combined with limiting fps to my screen refresh and gives very smooth gameplay with no scenery stutter through the corners. I checked for input lag with these settings and surprisingly that also seemed better with hardly any discernible lag between my rl wheel and the screen.

*cough* can someone change the server status to this week's race please  ;)

  Thanks Pete.

Now then, there are rumours that Wednesday could be the day that AC 1.0 release candidate hits us which is all great but.......the anticipated size of the download together with any hotfixes could leave us in a bit of a mess for this race :-\  Then again, we could still be waiting come Christmas

i see Spa is in version 1.0 to be released  :) as well as other goodies  8)

Did some laps at Nurby GP tonight, enjoyed it, like a virtual track day with a handful of each car type on track  :)
2:28.4 so far. Biggest challenge is stopping at T1 as late as you dare.

I concur, the elise is approx 5 seconds a lap faster than the z4.

No server to be found.

Looks like I'm able to join. The (ping-pong)table where I have my wheel on is not very stable, so I've got to be very gentle with steering and lower the ffb.
I'll be in the BMW, going under 26s with the Lotus  :(

the anticipated size of the download together with any hotfixes could leave us in a bit of a mess for this race.

Could always start Steam in offline mode and download after the race if need be, AC still connects ok with Steam offline.  ;)

Is the big update today then?

Time I set was in a z4, the lotus wasn't any quicker driven by the Ai, in fact top 4 places went to z4s in my offline race so had assumed it had the edge, but sounds not in human (alien) hands. :-\

Hope race goes ahead, was looking forward to some track fun.

Haven't seen any conformation of a release today. I rather race today and get the update, if there is one, tomorrow. That said, it will only work if everyone puts steam on offline.

If you allow Steam to run at start up you'll have to unplug the network cable or it'll update before you know it.

Not sure where your getting your info from, the forums are quiet to me. And all i can work out is that a review is published today, no mention of any release candidate. You would have expected an official response surely?

Sounds like the RC and early access are separate things to me.

AC release candidate 1.0 is now out  :jumpjoy:

Not sure where this puts us for tonight's race as my steam is already updating and doesn't look like it will complete in time.

Time to break out the beers tough I reckon  :)

Steam downloads can be paused, then restart in offline, it will pick up where you left off when gone back to online. 3.1 gig will take hours on my comp so gone off line with Steam and will download after racing. If everybody is ok with waiting a bit longer for the update, the race should be ok to go tonight??  :D

With a download that large and requiring files to be copied up to the server it means I'd not get everything ready for a race tonight.

Thus the server is up accepting bookings using the old version we raced last week.

Seems like what ever option is taken some will have been able to update and some not. Bit of a pain releasing it on a Wednesday - we changed from Friday races to beat the updates on race day issue and they still get us.

It'll all be better next week ;)

well we had a play for 3 laps of the race then called it time when Paul stuck his shiny Lotus head first into the Armco  ;D  Would have been a good race with a semi decent grid of cars. The Z4 has the edge on the straights whereas the Lotus is more nimble in the corners, as you would expect really  :)

Installing the update now but it says 1hr +  :o even at 760kbps. Shame it had to blinking happen on race night  ::)

But im easy either way.

It would be interesting to see how the tyre degridation plays a part.

I've reset the date so that we re-run this event next week.

I'm looking into the possibilities of running a season of official races now that we have V1.0 (release candidate). There are a few potential problems which need to be overcome including the way we import results so these will need to be sorted first.

I may be able to join this'n. This track features in the career mode so I've done a quite a few laps already and I like the Beemer a lot. But my best time is IIRC 2:33 so I'm still well of the boil. I hope to try the Lotus later today.

BTW is this something I should be doing something with?

Server track settings:
SESSION_START=97
SESSION_TRANSFER=60
RANDOMNESS=
LAP_GAIN=50

EDIT: Just joined the online practise session and no probs.

BTW I did an offline race with a full grid of Beemers and Lotus and it looked amazing. Also saw a great crash between two of the AI cars which left one having to retire through damage. The AI cars seem well matched to my standard and gave me a really good race which was great fun. Looking forward to a repeat race but this time I'll try the Lotus.
On the start/finish straight I did get a warning message "CPU at 95% occupation" but the frame rate remained super smooth.

Been getting the CPU at 95% since the update on certain track/car combos, but doesn't seem to affect the game, even with graphics on low or maxed out, I just ignore it now, as you do.... :D

Those are the settings for our server which determine the rate at which the track rubbers in. I only post them for testing purposes so we all know what to expect......no need to adjust anything your end.

A full grid of AI can still be a bit of a strain at times. The biggest culprits are tyre smoke, smoke in mirrors and dust/gravel flying around. I turned these off and have never since seen the 95% cpu warning.

Hope to see you on Wednesday Tony  :)

Tried the Lotus and it's a lovely drive but I'm even slower in it!

BTW when I change up gear even before full revs I'm showing engine damage. Auto clutch didn't help. First car I've had this problem with. Worried that if I do choose the Lotus I will have killed the engine before the chequered flag.

Glad you said that Tony as I found the same when I tried the feisty Lotus out this eve briefly. Z4 didn't suffer it when I tried that afterwards. Thought it was a server setting but did same offline too. See we are upto R1.3 already!

Regarding the engine damage on the lotus.

The devs know about it.. What you can do to measure it is open your assetto_corsa.ini and enable dev apps (enable_dev_apps=1) then open your 'car physics' app, in there you will see ELIFE, just monitor it.

Or, to avoid it just change up slightly sooner, if you change exactly when the gear turns red (gear app) it shouldnt damage the engine.

No probs.

I think the z4 is a far easier car to drive at the limit for a length of time.

The elise is sure faster, i managed a 1'24.3 on the simracing server with race fuel but i was so on edge the entire lap it didnt feel rewarding at the end it felt like i survived a beating.!

That may explain why the first lap was such a dentfest. Nice event GT but I'm still woefully slow. Looked good and I decided to stay to the end but I miss XD.

after watching the replay it looked like spanner broke a little too early and then cyber tried to dodge him and knocked him off track.

the unknowns..

cyber, alki, sutol and markbeszant are all friends of mine and bobs who we've asked to join us now and again to fill up spaces, they are all fair drivers and mistakes do happen..

not sure why the server was set to 16 people tho. Its a shame you couldnt get in mark.

This was my fault really but I blame the stupid system that AC have created. AFAIK the only way to establish the number of pit spaces is in game, the dedi server configurator doesn't know. The pain of finding this out, in conjunction with having to create entries for the practice server means I defaulted to 16, sorry. Until tonight that has not been a problem. Perhaps GT you could post the number of pit boxes in the race announcement. Then everyone will know how quickly they need to register if the number is limited.

Appologies, I failed to setup my profile properly after the RC came out so I seemed have raced as ******. I did correct this before joining but after booking, AC obviously didn't notice. Should be ok for next week ;)

If inviting extra people to race has caused problems please accept my apologies to all concerned.  Will definitely request that they register in order to race in future.  Previous weeks has seen 4 or 5 on the race night not resulting in the best of races.   Good race tonight, the replay looks true to life, well done podium, thanks GT for the combo. Bob.

No problem with extra drivers Bob, we just need to make sure there are enough slots for them! 16 was too low but understandable after early low turnouts. Get the feeling we might soon see 25+ grids!

not sure why the server was set to 16 people tho.

No problem Pete, your work and time are appreciated as ever. I'll include pit boxes in future race announcements.

Can I please ask that new drivers register here and while you're at it pop in to say hello.. we always make you welcome. When we start running official league races you'll need to be registered or you won't see the race passwords as they are only visible to members.

Turn 1 was a mess tonight  ::) Can I just remind drivers that these are fun races and while I appreciate mistakes happen, I really don't want to have that happen again. Nuff said.

5th?
I thought I was 5th.
btw welcome  :)

Since I still have problem of others car awareness caused by high FOV. Can`t see my mirrors except middle which is not very helpful, and sound doesn`t help so skipping the qually sounded like good idea not to cause 1st corner mayhem like I did in Sentul.
Anyway, had my share of fun despite fact that I really don`t like this track ... without Green Hell attached (DLC where are you!!??!!)

One thing that I did notice ... in one part of the race, my damage icon shows rear end damage like someone hit me from behind but nobody there to do that. Anyone with similar experience?

Oh, and my car choice ... every time when we have multiple car choice and one car is with H pattern gearbox - I`ll take it because I don`t like flappy paddles ...

Too many drivers! What an excellent problem to have ;)

Another good race, I got a decent start and had a look at Erik into T1 but he was already on it and only got better as the race developed. Managed to stay on his tail for about half the race but I was having to push harder and harder and was afraid of making mistakes. Eventually I couldn't safely push any more and Erik just gradually moved away, excellent controlled driving from start to finish.

Ed are you using auto or manual clutch with the h-shifter? I just can't use my h-shift in AC so far, which is frustrating as it doesn't work without manual clutch, which would be fine if my race seat frame allowed easy foot access  ::)

I don't know if this is a problem with my control setup in AC or something related to last nights beemer but I did find that I could not accelerate when I had a tight steering lock on. The power seemed to increase as my steering lock decreased. I presumed that the Beemer is RWD so why would steering lock effect drive?

Seems like TC enabled acting like electronic stability control (DSC as BMW call that) ... ctrl+T for disabling it in game ...

I noticed that Tony, it certainly went away with TC turned off. Sadly my lap times were almost identical with it in or out. So I started the race with it in so my overzealousness  shouldn't have been rewarded with a spin but even taking it very carefully I couldn't avoid all the cars spinning left right and center at the start.
