Have to. I haven't been able to do any long testing, so it will be up to the drivers to pick whatever suits best
And, I am banished to London Thurs Fri so I won't be at the race.

IMHO The Vette #5 and the Mustang #90 are too quick for the Falcon Sprint but I haven't had time to go through all combinations.

Hmm. For me the Falcon was fastest, then the Stang, then the Vette

Don't fret Matt I wasn't digging at your car selection, just more that I can't drive them quickly enough and I hate 'managing' a car more than driving it!  :-[

I haven't had the chance to compare performance over a race distance on race rubber but my time in the Mustang on race fuel in Open Practice was 1:34.1

I have written "Mid Ohio" as a heading for this race on my test sheets..... ::) but I think I meant Road Atlanta.
The Falcon MANN was too fast so I went for the Sprint. My Vette times are pants, but then I struggle to drive
that one more than the others.

Falcon Sprint      = 1:35.6
Mustang Gr5       = 1:35.6
Vette C2 Z06 #5 = 1:35.3
Vette C2 Z06      = 1:36.6

Falcon Weslake was 1:35.0 (which was my original choice) and the Falcon MANN was 1:34.0
If the Sprint is slowest for everyone then we could include the Weslake or the MANN, though
I think that one would still be too fast. Perhaps I meant to not include the George Robertson number 5 car.
Work keeps getting in the way of life...

I'm a second slower than you in the Falcon but it was the first car that I tried.

It might be down to setup or just that I improved after a few laps.  I will revisit the Falcon but if I can't do it tonight then I can't look at it until Thursday.

As you know, I'm not keen on car selections that change on race day!   ;D

With the forum being down I couldn't download the track until last night and a few people will have been in the same boat.  I'm not fussed if we all turn up in the same car!  In fact I prefer that as I know I'm in the right one!  I would just leave it.

Apologies maestro!  Just gone back to the Sprint and done 1:34.027.   So it's just me that's the problem.   ;D  But you knew that already.   ::)

No race for me either as my aging pc has finally expired. Planning another build, but probably be out for at least a couple of weeks.

I hope to make an appearance if all goes well today. This is one of those car and track combinations that keeps me coming back for more. Partly because an alien gave me a good set-up for the Mustang, and it is actually nice to drive, even at Road Atlanta! However, I have only practiced a few laps, so I will probably struggle to keep it on the track.

EDIT: I did a full practice run. My best is in the 1:38s, but the average is a full second slower. I have since lower the tire pressure a bit, and will see if I can improve in the race.

Great race on a great track tonight, enjoyed that  8)

Knew I'd be quicker in a Falcon as I find it easier to drive but just don't like the car, whereas I do like a nice Mustang so took that  :)
Qualified a very decent 3rd place which surprised me.
Got a clean race start and stayed 3rd for a few laps whilst Clive and Geoffers pulled out a lead. EvilClive was chasing me hard and we swapped places over a lap but I got back ahead. He then stayed within 1-2 secs behind me upto lap 14, keeping the pressure on. My left front tyre cried enough on lap 14 and I too was getting knackered wrestling the stang, and I ran a little wide allowing Evil through  :(
I had a sloppy few laps after that as I struggled for grip but then got some rhythm back and closed back up slightly to keep some pressure on.
Don't know if that did it but Evil unfortunately fell off at the tricky downhill chicane and I got my place back with only 2 laps remaining. Nearly got Dan on the last lap as he too fell off but he kept ahead and I finished a hard earned 4th, top Pony  ;D

Thanks, I thought that I was too late to join. To my surprise, there was five minutes left in the Qualify session. I stalled the car at the start. I blame that on left foot braking. Then I had a number of off track moments, but nothing too time consuming. Although, I did run wide on the last corner once, and I had to go down pit lane.   I thought that I had secured last place, but it was not to be. Too bad for Evil Clive though. If it is any consolation, I would have ran out of gas if I were on the lead lap.  :-[

I'll keep an eye open for upcoming races. Hopefully I can join the server a little earlier next time. I was lucky that the race started a few minutes late.

Cheers,
Walter

.......... I was lucky that the race started a few minutes late.

Cheers,
Walter

We had delayed for about 10 minutes while SuperSWIFT tried to join but in the end we just had to start qually.

I think that I missed a trick with the tyres again tonight as, after the race, Geoffers said that it was possible to run the soft tyres on the rear and still make it to the end.  PnG is so big that it will be years before I have bottomed out all the variations in car, tyre make and tyre compound!  That's why I like the spec races.  I know I'm in the right car!

Well done Geoffers on a comfortable win and wd also to Dan for some serious pace.  He was running soft front and back but they had had enough with a few laps to go.

Sorry to Evil if it was my setup that didn't have enough fuel in but when I sent it I hadn't done a race distance or even any testing on fuel.

One of the things that kept last nights racing entertaining was the proximity of other racers for the full race length. The only guy who got clean ahead was Geoffers whereas all from 2nd down to about 6th or 7th could see a car just ahead and behind. It meant you had someone to chase or have pressure by the whole time. Nice  :)

Well yes!!! my legal department will be seeking compensation from the supplier of that setup!!

Grats to Geoffers, who seemed to have the pace over everyone by some margin, and to Clive and Dan for the other podium spots.

Practice and Qually were an exploration of the official SBRC setup that I was provided with  ::). After struggling to understand how it was meant to be driven and discovering that the setup did not understand the "sideways" principle I was forced to make a few minor adjustments with a large hammer in the last moments of qually.
Stiffening the springs a couple of notches front and rear transformed the car and I was feeling a little more confident for the race.

The early laps I took steady and watched the tyres until things settled down and I found myself chasing Mark's Mustang. Our lap times were obviously close and the gap varied by tenths on each lap. Strangely I found the car started to handle more and more to my liking as the tyres wore down and I was able to pressure Mark who began to show signs of stress.  ;D
Eventually he ran wide and I took the chance and scampered away.
To my great delight I found I was slowly closing on the battle between Dan and Clive and at that rate I could well be involved in the final podium place before the final laps. The car felt better and better as rubber rubbed off the tyres and just as I was getting into attack range, the engine coughed up the long back straight ....what??? ........ :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:  NO FUEL!!!.

I cruised over the brow and let the car run off onto the grass amid some choice language.

Disappointed that I did not make the finish, but encouraged that I kept the car on track and was still ( sort of ) competitive until the end.

I find that with a number of the cars in P&G, the soft rear tyres last OK but you need to run harder ones on the front. I don't know if that is typical for everyone or just a result of the way I drive & set the car up. I would have thought that IRL these big powerful cars would have shredded the rears before the fronts, but maybe that isn't the case.

Anyway, I was surprised to win that one. Everyone seemed to have a good pace in practice so I thought it would be a close run event. I got a good start, for a change, & built a bit of a lead but started to worry that everyone else was using the harder tyres all round & they would whittle my lead away in the second half of the race. But although my pace dropped quite considerably (around 2s a lap) for the last 10 laps, everyone else seemed to be in the same boat.

Congrats to Clive & Dan   , cya all next week. :thumbup1:

Don't forget these US beasts have a seriously heavy lump of metal sat over the front wheels!  :P they only shred the rears more if your lighting them up out of slower corners  :)

WOW!  Geoffers certainly cruised off into the sunset with this one, didn't he?  Congrats, man!

Great jobs by both Clive and Dan to score podiums!  Well done, gys.

Splendid pace from Mark in earning the top pony car laurels.  I worked hard to spoil that honour but came up a bit short.  I thought that just past mid-distance, I was making inroads on his small lead but couldn't seem to capitalize on the situation.

Cruel luck for Evil coming up dry late on.  No justice.

It certainly is great fun to hurl these beasts about a classic road course.  Just wish we had the use of the old layout version without the chicane on the back straight.
