Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Note early race start time! Drivers shall not change cars during qualifying.

Just back from hols so will be relying on the practice session more than usual, and although I know this track very well I've never raced with either of these cars. Watch this space :-\

Race 1

A very enjoyable race in the TVR for me.  A mistake going wide cost me early on but then I benefited by others mistakes later in the race. Some interesting battles towards the end and some very fair driving.

Race 2

A disaster. I had to answer the door just before the start. I rushed back to the room with about 15 seconds to spare I think. By the time I was on the grid I had no time to get the drivers names up, mistook the countdown for the start so had to do an S&G. then span off trying to find the tab key for drivers names on my nearly out of reach keyboard. I wasn’t satisfied with the way I performed this manoeuvre so practiced it several times more until perfected. Then had some fun chasing down some backmarkers having a nice last lap battle with someone, very enjoyable, thanks for that.  Hope I don’t get any more interruptions just before racing.

Grats podiums and all.

Hi guys,
thanks for all. It was a very good 2nd race. I´ve had some nice "fights" with different drivers, but all was fair.(In my opinion). After hard work I could make the 4th places...WOW... what an event for me!! :D I´ve never expected that and it is my 1st 4th places ever.... :D
Sorry, that I´m so lucky about this place... but in the past we have had a lot of discussions.
Congrats to the podium.. which is again staffed by "aliens"... ;)
It is a pleasure for me to drive here as well. Next race for me here will be the 50th sprint. I look forward to it. I have had a lot of fun! Thank you all!

Cu and best regards

Gerd

That was quite a lousy race night for me.

Race 1:
Started well enough, with 3rd on the grid in the TVR.  Thought I had the start procedure down, but the fact that I lost no less than 5 places suggests otherwise  ::)

Made up some places through others misfortunes.  Race soon turned into a duel with Flash. We swapped places a few times, but mostly he was in front. Strangely, I was much quicker through T2 and used it to pass him a couple of times.  Mostly I had to slow down though, as his car was too wide for me to find a safe way past.

Antics with Flash allowed Jose to sneak up on me. A mistake let him past, but I retained 4th, when Flash next went off.  Chased Jose until the end of the penultimate lap, where I tossed an almost certain 4th place away.  Lost it at Woodcote, and of course the damn car had to come to a rest with nose against the wall.  Took forever to dig myself out, so I was down to 7th when I finally rejoined.

Race 2:
Had difficulty getting a clear lap in qual, and when I finally did have a clear track ahead, I messed up the lap all by myself.

Misnoimis wasn't the only one issued a S/G.  He hit my car when he did his false start, earning me one too.  That's the first time my race has been ruined before the flag has even dropped.  Rejoined 16th after serving it.  Did some passes and made up more places when others went off.  Had just caught Bob, but ran out of race before I could attempt a challenge, to finish 10th.

Grats to the podiums in both races and the usual thanks to Tony for putting it all together.

Cheers,
Erling

Please accept my apologies Erling. I did not realise I had messed up someone else’s race as well as my own. Someone had been knocking on my door earlier in qualifying. I had ignored it but when they knocked again I had to go downstairs and answer it in case it was something important, it wasn’t. After dealing with it I just had time to rush back upstairs and jump into the driver’s seat and join the grid. I think I had left my car in gear so the engine was stalled. All the drivers were revving their engines so I thought I would get left at the start. I managed to get my car started and in back in gear but unfortunately not my brain so when I heard the first timing bleep I mistook this for the race start. When you didn’t move I swerved and braked but unfortunately just clipped you enough to push you forward. Very sorry about that. I realised that I had made a false start as no other car had moved.

It took me a couple of laps to unscramble my brain. I had moved a small table I keep my keyboard on beside my wheel and not put it back in my hurry. I have to move it to get out of my seat to leave the room. I was trying to drive and feel for the Tab key at the same time in order to get the drivers names up with the keyboard slightly behind me.  I missed a gear change and unintentionally tweaked the wheel slightly and went onto the grass. After that my lap was a complete mess. I realise now I could have easily done this while serving my S&G.

It was disappointing because I had gone very well in offline practice in the Lotus the previous day and fancied a good middle of the field finish but my biggest disappointment was to spoil Erlings’ race.

No worries Misnoimis.  It's of course frustrating when it happens, but obviously an accident.  Sometimes you just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Cheers,
Erling

Nothing worth to talk about - declining performance throughout the season  :P
due to lack of time for practicing - and fantastic turnout during the last weeks  ;).

GTL lives on and on - thanks to all involved for organizing all these great events :thumbup1: :thumbup2:.

Race 2

A disaster. I had to answer the door just before the start.

I know what's it's like to be interupted just before or even during a race, Misnoimis. Although GTL comes quite a way down in the list of things important in our family household, I now resort to closing the study door with a sign saying "Racing - not to be disturbed"! :D Blunt, but it works and the rest of the family get the message. And if I'm on my own and the doorbell or phone goes, tuff!

As regards my effort last night, all I shall say is that I still felt a little jaded having spent a very enjoyable 10 days and 2100 miles on holiday in Scotland. But excellent to see a large grid made up by a wide level of driving skills which can only be a good thing

Yep, good advice, I’ll put it on my list of things to check; things to do; things not to do, Becoming a long list. Must have most things covered by now baring equipment and brain failure.  I will not answer the door in future unless I can smell smoke or my smoke alarms going off. :helpsmilie:
I guess the problem would not have arisen if the track had starting lights or the man with the starting flag had been animated realistically :surrender: or if I still had the same number of brain cells I had fifty years ago or, lot of if only’s …

I always have the ingame countdown switched on. Doesn't stop me sitting on the grid in neutral then flooring the throttle whilst going nowhere fast  ::)
