Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

Commented to Tony regarding Chat in our race meetings, either we had fast typers or people were using TeamSpeak. (I have used it in an AC chat room with Picnic and Spanner but have no experience of using it in online racing - had problems with AC.)  Contacted Tony who has used it but was not impressed, he suggested I discuss with Picnic.

Regarding use in racing Picnic raised a number of points:-

- Sound levels, can you hear someone speaking over the engine/game sounds?
- Use of a PTT (Push to Talk) button, if people use voice activation you often end up opening the mic when swearing as you fall off, clear your thought etc. It's also possible that the game volume triggers the voice activation, always best to use a specific button. This is easy to map to a button on your wheel so no real excuses.
- Distraction - some people don't like to race with it because it can cause interruptions to your train of thought. If you watch F1 I'm sure you'll have heard F1 drivers telling the pit crews not to talk in braking zones etc.

Anybody used TeamSpeak and have an opinion on its usefulness?
Is it worth giving it a try?

I've never used TeamSpeak. Even in real life driving I'm one of those people who find it difficult to talk and drive at the same time. I wouldn't mind other drivers using it though, as long as I had the option to mute it all my end, so to speak. I would perhaps use it during practice sessions.

Hi Bill used Teamspeak years ago with GPL group LOPEN good drivers but races were all about fun, half way through race the leader would call green and the slow drivers would come to the front and fast guys to rear, lots of info/tips and friendly banter during race over Teamspeak. With GTL drivers very competitive it could be a downer for me as have enough probs just concentrating on driving the cars. Some drivers might love it but to be any use i think all drivers in race  need to use it. Just my opinion.

There is a regular group of us who use TS at RaceConnect. It can be useful for warning others when there is a crash, for sharing setup tips, for generally discussing racing/racecraft etc. One potential problem is that I have crashed on more than one occasion when laughing so much when someone makes a wisecrack !  You can easily mute your mic or headphones if you want to.

I've used TS in some GPL races with the ADC.  Not too keen on it.  It's a great distraction and I need to concentrate as best I can.  I've since binned it.

@ Hayman3131 - tested server and I load the Merc fine. It's not the standard Merc but a special LM55 Merc. Read the download install instructions and let the installer do it's stuff. You also need sounds from another Merc download. That is also explained in the download instructions. The LM55 Merc lives here on your PC.
Teams/GTC-65/Mercedes 300SL/SL_LM55 and there are three cars No's 53, 54 & 55.

I find driving these cars puts a smile on my face every time ;D.

Grats to Jose and Pelle who were just too fast for me to catch. Although I jumped Pelle at the start, I kinda knew that he had about 2 secs a lap in hand, over what I could get out of the D type, and he was sure to be pressing for a pass quite soon...and he did!
After that I was watching the gap to Jose and Pelle grow at about the same rate as the gap back to Bill G was growing behind me. So, as the race progressed I became more and more isolated  :-\.

Maintaining concentration was my biggest challenge as I still struggle mightily with the brakes (and braking distances) in GTL.  The setup I had nailed together for the D type required early braking and 4 wheel drifts, under power, to get it through the corners...that might not be the way to get the fastest laptime, but it sure makes for a fun lap  ;) especially on the run down to the hairpin with all those sweeping curves  ;D ;D

I had guessed at the fuel load for the race and although it appears I had a couple of laps spare, I backed right off the pace on the last lap and cruised in to sample the champagne on the bottom step of the podium.

That 300SLR looks a real stunning addition to the LM55 series, just wonder what the performance spec will be??? If it is historically accurate it might prove to be something like the current F1 Silver Arrows and totally dominant?

A mid-field quali result was about what I expected so imagine my surprise to find myself in P4 at the end of the first lap  :). Clive was ahead and I could keep up with him until lap 5 when my tyres seemed to suddenly turn to jelly ... reduced front grip so lots of understeer on turn-in then big oversteer when the turn-in eventually started. Thus my times dropped by 1 or 2 sec per lap and Clive steadily pulled away. Flash was soon putting the pressure on, eventually he did a nice move and breezed past only to run wide a lap later and lose a couple of places. No rest for me though since Rog was immediately on my case and we had a great scrap right to the end.
Overall it was a great race, Flash and Rog making it one to remember  :)

Great race yesterday. I'm not fan of Fifties league, but the mercedes 300 SL was a surprise for me. Very stable and fast car in corners. The qualy was very good, pole. The start was good too 'cause the merc have more traction that the Jaguar and keep the 1st place without problems.
Difficult to keep the concentration all the race but I will put the car to the finish line. Good race. Great stuff, great grid. Grats to my teammate Pelle for the 2nd place and clive for a deserved 3rd place.

Thanks all!

Cheers!

Not much race to report on yesterday, but a little explanation instead.

Due to a medical issue, of which I'll spare you the details, I was almost certain I wouldn't be able to complete the race.  Car then had to be the Jaguar, which I can't drive, as I didn't want to waste 'one of the nice ones'.  Am quite in awe of the speeds the front runners were able to attain in it, I have to say  :o

Sure enough, I had to take a long break during the race, and parked the car where I hoped it wouldn't be in anyone's way.

Grats to the podium and all finishers. Great to see such a large grid.

Next week I should be back to normal.

Cheers,
Erling

Chose the Aston as I had a good, albeit slow, setup from the race at RaceConnect last Wednesday night. Sure enough I qualied at the Gentlemen Drivers end of the grid. Managed to pass Erling during lap 1 but he rallied and overtook me on the long long straight. He then popped in to the fresh air ahead of me and we collided. Pretty sure I didn't accelerate so he must of braked. Anyways the whole manoeuvre took me by suprise. He managed to come to a halt at the bend without hitting anything so I carried on. I didn't slow to let you pass me back Erling as I didn't think I was at fault. Post an incident report if you feel otherwise mate ok?
Remainder of the race was quite special as I was in the middle of a three (sometime four) car train. I was following and trying to catch and pass Misnoimis with Steve keeping me honest just behind me. All three of us had some pass attempts and it proved to be all rather exciting in a kinda non- :alien: sort of way.
Most enjoyable evening I hope you all agree.
Next ones at Zandvoort, that should be good   Hope you can all make it. Be well Erling, no-one wants to see a driver of your quality parked up.

Thanks Tony, Bill & Kurt; I am indeed well, which I got confirmed at an examination today, so no worries  :)

No worries about our incident either Tony.  I did brake, as that was my normal brake point, but obviously the Aston could brake later, if you didn't have to at the same point. Considering the rest of the race, it didn't matter at all, so good that you didn't waste time letting me back past

Cheers,
Erling

I thought it was a really good race, too. Plenty of blind bends and mid-bend braking. The 3 car train certainly kept me focused 99% of the time and from where I was placed, at the tail end of course, the drivers ahead of me (Tony and Misnoimis) looked very professional. The 1% was when I thought it a good idea to test the durability of my Mercs paint by sliding on the passenger door side for about 20 secs I think (not seen the replay yet). At least it gave my tyres a rest.

After my problems due to not downloading all cars in previous ISMA and Fifties Sprint Series I have now been able to complete the last race in both series with no problems in loading my set ups.

I drove the Aston, I don’t think my setup improved the handling a lot. I was O K with the braking but struggled when applying the power.  I did manage to bring it home without a scratch on the paintwork. Unfortunately you don’t get points for that.

However the evening provided one of the most enjoyable races for some time for me. I had a hugely enjoyable race with Tony and Steve.  I made one slight error too many and Tony just piped me to the line with Steve close behind. Let’s hope we can have some more races like that. The driving was very clean.

Grats to winner and podiums and thanks to all.

Erling...    I saw your car parked for many a lap on the rise up the back straight.  Had me scratching my head.  Very relieved to learn that you are now well again.  :)

Fun race for me despite an early pile-driver incident in the New World hairpin.  Gotta love those British six-lungers!

You quickly caught me up and I was going up one side of hairpin and I could see you coming down the other side. The distance concertinaed for a few laps and then you quickly dropped back until you parked up on the verge.

Thought it was a car problem not a health scare.

Fun race for me and a surprisingly  decent finish with these cars.  Nothing like it over on GC.  I am the guilty one that stuck my nose into Doni's car at the hairpin.  Waited for him to go bye and ended up at the back.. Wrote a sorry PM after the race.  Slowly crawled back from the back passing a few on the track but most were people that went off to the ditch.  Worked out a good set-up for the Merc, that was fairly fast but mostly real stable for me.   Was wanting to drive the Healey, but it doesn't have the speed on the long straights like the Merc.
BTW were can I find the complete season schedule of tracks and cars that we are going to use? It takes this old guy a while to learn new tracks.  Looking forward to next weeks muscle cars race at Sebring, havent raced on that old track version for a number of years.  GC-MCL always uses the modern layout.  Think I will go MOPAR with the RT or the Cuda, haven't driven them for quite a while....

Thanks for the fun
Bob M.

@ Bob M.

Go to the first post (the race announcement). Click on the BIG orange HERE for the season listings. Click on the flags for race details. The car choice is constant for the whole series. Your car drives are listed in the roster found by clicking the blue HERE.
Hope that helps.
To all newcomers; nearly everything on the site is clickable or hoverable (is that a word, it is now).

Kurt, would you fancy posting stats after every GTL race. It would be helping me out.

Yes - should be no problem, I hope.

No idea whether that software works with Linux too - by now I use Windows
for simracing only, but under Windows there should be no problem.

My 2 cents. I tried this new version but sometimes GAPS GRAPH tab does not display information correctly. With version 1.65 always work well.

Cheers!
