Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 35 & 36 - Moon - CanAm 71

Welcome to the CanAm round for the Friday Trophy, we do our longest trip to the Moon.
A nice smooth track with some great racing expected.

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to not use any of the big 4 (M8F, T260, M8D or Shadows)
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Congrats Mark, Axel, Dean!

That was a weird event for me. Luckily I was fast enough to overcome most of my mistakes.

I really screwed up the first heat. I clipped the curb in T1 and ended up sliding off the right side of the track. I went into a huge crater. The tires were warm and I had 3.5 gallons left so I took off in what I thought was the right direction but instead I was heading back towards the starting line. DQ - reversed on track?! I knew that was too big a mistake to overcome in such a short race. I tried though.

In the second heat, I was glad to get the pole. I thought I had a good chance of winning if I could keep from making mistakes. Lately, that's been too much to ask of myself. My self discipline and consistency has been terrible. I keep getting myself into situations where I try to drive faster than I'm really capable. After my off, that gave Mark the lead, I knew I had a very difficult task to try to catch Mark but at least, I still had plenty of time. It's a shame Mark was discoed. He very likely had another win but I was going to try to make it very difficult.

After the race I figured out some of my problems with this event. I thought my PB in the 712 was 1:02.33 not 1:03.22. I expected the McLaren to be at least .5 seconds faster. I actually thought most of my laps were slower than my 712 PB. So I was actually 1 second faster through the event than I thought I was. I didn't need to be trying so hard to do 1:01.8, which I thought was .5 seconds faster than my 712 PB. I wanted a 1:01 but it wasn't as important as I had been thinking. After the event, I thought I had only run 3 or 4 laps better than my Ferrari PB. Actually I had only run 3 or 4 laps that were more than 1 second faster. What a dummie!

Good fun guys, thanks!

Can ams are difficult on the moon.  I knew the McLaren C is definitely faster than the Ferrari, so I worked on making it stable but struggled with overheating the left front tyre.  Greg gifted me the lead in both races :) but I had an igor problem in race2 that caused a screen freeze, which is very annoying as by then I'd finally worked out a zen-like attitude to driving the thing round this track.  Anyway, farewell to the moon.
