Post by: BadBlood on November 29, 2014, 11:00:17 PM +0000
Season 27 Historic Trophy - Round 9 - Sebring 67

The penultimate race finds us in the USA at Sebring.

The first 12 Hours of Sebring was held on March 15, 1952, and the event would grow to become a major international race. In 1959, the racetrack hosted the first Formula One Grand Prix in the United States. Due to the poor attendance and high costs, the next United States Grand Prix was held at Riverside.

For much of Sebring's history, the track followed a 5.2 miles (8.4 km) layout. In 1967, the Webster Turn between the hairpin and the top of the track was removed and replaced with the faster Green Park Chicane, which was closer to the hairpin and allowed a flat-out run through a very fast corner to the top of the track and the runway; this made the circuit 50 yards longer. The circuit was also widened. Many of these changes were prompted by the 1966 12 Hours where 5 people were killed during the race. Another dangerous section was the Warehouse straight; after a crash where a Porsche went into one of the warehouses and into a crowd, the organizers installed a chicane to move the Warehouse straight further away from the warehouses and buildings. We will use the 1967 layout.

There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

For THIS RACE, 3 liter cars must be selected

As with Round 8, the leaders are asked to restrict themselves to Group I and Group II.

Handicapping could well make a difference here but Tristan's wheels would have to fall off after a dominant season. Silver and Bronze are definitely up for grabs though so Dean may be able to take advantage.

MagicArsouille               Group I
AnGex and Doni Yourth   Group II

"Ramble . . . ramble!"  It's the rambling maddog to the rescue!  The story so far, is that our Masters refuse to show the full track title for each race.  We are ordered instead to click the little track button, to discover the secret title. :)  At time of writing, this devious plan leads me to a blank page.  We must therefor assume the track has not yet been built.  There are 2 different versions available, so this seems a tad demanding,.  May I suggest some clarification, unless you prefer to continue to frustrate the motoring masses. >:(

looks like the link is mistyped. Try this:

Thanks Newbie.  Helpful to those who will be racing.  I've mostly opted out these days, with an example here as to why. :-\

Thanks to Jethro for correcting my mis-type.

The grumbling helps the master... it reminds him to give his servants tit-bits every now and then. Not too much mind  ;D

I just D/L Sebring track OK

BUT

When I try to run the installer I get this .............

You have reached 64 max tracks in 67 season.ini !

Are you using the new tracklimit of 256 ?

If you are unsure accept No because GPL will not work with more then

64 tracks on unpatched GPL.exe
  ???

What to do ?

Worried from Wigan  :-\ :-\ :-\

edit to add , tried to d/l GPL patch inspector , but guess what ? its available from SRMZ and i'm locked out of that one  :'(

Bernie,
There is a way of increasing the number of tracks to 256(?) - but I don't know how that works.
I reached the 64 track capacity limit a while ago - my solution is to delete a couple of tracks that I don't much like from the "Tracks" folder (there are a few of them).
I then go to the "Seasons" folder, open up the 67  file & delete the the relevant entries from the list, renumber the reaminaing list & go to the top & change the total number of tracks. I am sure there is a better solution but this does work.

The 1.3 Patch does indeed add support for more tracks. It is explained here:

http://srmz.net/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=1&record=14

Please give the description a good read.

If you don't want to patch your GPL to v1.3, do the following:

Go to C:\Sierra\GPL\seasons

backup your 67season.ini by renaming it to 67seaso2.ini .

Copy gp.ini and rename the copy to 67season.ini.

Now you can run the Sebring installer.

You can switch between 67season and 67seaso2 in GEM+ to access your earlier tracks.

Tommie.

It must be 64 in the 67season.ini!

Just open it with an editor and look if there are tracks listed you have not installed. (or double entrants ::) )
Delete them and restore the right consecutive numbers.

Look at the counter and edit the numbers ;) -> numEvents=xx

Yes!

But the total number of events has to be on top in numEvents=xx

If you have still problems just copy and paste the text of the .ini here into a quote ;)

I use the season manager in GEM+ to add/remove tracks. Only takes a few seconds. I've also used it to aim all of my gpl .exe's at 67season.ini, so I only have to change one file to add/delete tracks from all mods.

As with everything, if it works, make a backup of your 67season.ini. It's a lot easier to re-add tracks to it than to try to rebuild it (apparently, the "sort by directory name" feature in the season manager can **** your file right up, but it's not happened to me).

Oh, and could we please better specify which track version we're running in the future?

I looked at the race post, it says "Sebring", "Track = Sebring", so I spent yesterday practicing on SEBRING (not sebr67). Today, I check my fast times, and they seem about 10 seconds out from what should be expected, so look in the "Downloads" section (that I hadn't bothered with as I already had all 3 versions of this track installed) and it says "sebr67".

edit: just noticed this buried way down the bottom of trivia section: "We will use the 1967 layout." Maybe add something to the "Track = " bit for clarity?

66 set ups are taking time to get to grips with.
I was working with a set up that was giving consistent 2.48's. Tweaked the wheel rates & got a couple of 2.47s. During qually the brake points I was using  were causing havoc 2.50 at best! Dumped the new set up for the old one in the race & it was still horrible. Ended up stuck in a bale which was perhaps GPL's way of telling me to call it quits.

I decided the bale was also the way out in that one. Just getting to grips with the Ferrari too, after I tweaked the brake balance to give me something of a rearward bias to stop the fronts locking.

got the track loaded after reading the instructions (silly old fool ) thanks all for the help anyway  :)

Still learning which way the track went during qually . Come the race and  it was my usual fight for last place with Billy . My turn to win this time Billy , sorry to here you bailed out early

I felt like calling it a day as my set up was carp , brake balance and sudden snap oversteer meant I had to tread lightly round all the bends , fortunately there was more of the straight bits (which I'm pretty good at) than the twisty bits , too much speed shifting did for my engine , decided to carry on to the bitter end being as how I had troubled you guys so much to get here .

Grats to the podiums

Thanks for the racing , apologies for the smoke screen and the oil slick

P.S. I do a very good valeting service for those of you who can afford it    ::)

Another lonely race at the front. After a cautious first few turns, got into a safe rhythm without pushing too much, but towards the end lost focus and hit the inside polo's twice bending the suspension slightly. That woke me up and pushed a bit more final 3 laps...

To me it's a fun track to race, not much margin for errors but when you hit the lines well it's a pretty good track :) Good job Dean and Tris who made the least mistakes it seemed...well done finishers, seemed  a hard track for many...commiserations...

Looking forward to last race, should be closer at the front... ;)

Had to skip this one, as I would have only been able to drive qualifying at best. Would have been nice to give Rob a more eventful race, though I probably couldn't have kept up in the Lotus 43. However, I am now hopeful of making the final race at the Glen :)
