Season 27 Works Trophy - Round 9 - Bremgarten

Welcome to Round 9 for the Season 27 Graduates Works Trophy! As we near Season's end, Tim Muttram is favorite for the title, a very impressive comeback so far. Antipasti teammates Tom van Ostade and Robert Fleurke still have an outside chance and will be keen to pickup as many points as possible and finish in front of Tim, in order to have a great finale.

The penultimate event of the Season is at Circuit Bremgarten, Switzerland, a dangerous yet rewarding track for the true racing driver. Bremgarten was built as a motor cycle track in 1931 to the north of Bern. The circuit itself had no true straight, instead being a collection of high-speed corners. From the outset, it’s tree-lined roads, often poor light conditions and changes in road surface made for what was acknowledged to be a very dangerous circuit, especially in the wet. Bremgarten has not hosted an official motorsports event since 1955, when spectator racing sports were banned in Switzerland. This circuit had its own share of fatalities, both Achille Varzi and Christian Kautz being killed in the 1948 Swiss GP.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of Eichholz on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=453&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

It is on GPLTD alphabetically, Parco Sempione 1937. Here's the link to SRMZ download - http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=596 ;)

Are we still going to race Sempione in the 67s? It was tight enough in the Groundhog 65s.. Imagine if we had the F2s here on a full grid ;D

Yes the Parco Sempione Round is still on.  I agree it will be very tight but that is why it is on the calendar.  We need a mix of fast and slow tracks to provide a worthy challenge to drivers of your ability ;).  To win here requires a different skill set to that required for a fast track like Monza.  A true champion should be able to master all types of circuit.

Phil - I agree, I just think the potential for a pile-up is immense at Sempione :o. Turin '55 is a similar track, but with a little more wiggle room for '67s.

It would be interesting to try and clinch pole at Sempione, before 'doing a Rosberg' (I mean the race, not qualifying ::)!).... I'd like to see last place get fastest lap while everyone is held up in a train !

PS. Last time I raced Bremgarten, with VOR 69x, there was a huge pileup at T3, all cars collected, so it's definitely a place just to 'get through' on lap 1.

What a great day - Last day of a short break from work, Lost my mobile in some woods just before dusk, wasted an hour with a torch trying to find it, then crashed out on the 3rd corner all on my own...
 :censored: Knew I shouldn't have bothered  ::)

Good race, decent finish, tried hard to kill the car yet didn't. Roll on Parco Sempione.

Wasn't as prepared as I should be, and had a difficult quali, couldn't put a good lap together and lost confidence which wasn't high already...

Got through Lap 1, and gained a spot when Greg went off at T1. Was following Tristan when I hit the fence hard in the fast chicane in the woods on Lap 4, and Tommie was back on my tail.

Code:
8m48.770s
Robert Fleurke - spotters reporting:
medium problems with left front tire.
minor problems with left rear tire.
severe problems with left front suspension.
minor problems with left rear suspension.

Felt car was out of shape but not to this extent! Dodged a bullet when Tristan had an off in T1 and got back on the track from the high grassy sidewalls. Braked hard and this helped me to miss Tristan, my teamie Tommie wasn't as lucky :(

After that still some mistakes and even more suspension damage, but car seemed indestructable today and still drivable. Iestyn was managing his pace and never really threatened him. Made too many mistakes and my pace wouldn't be good enough.

Decent run considering the circumstances and damage for most of the race. Sorry to see Tim and Tom suffer from bad luck for the championship. Good job Iestyn, solid. Also good job Greg coming back from the Lap 1 mishap...

Also all finishers well done, tough track. Tough luck DNF's...

PS: thanks to Axel for hosting and importing results once again ;)

Congrats Iestyn, Rob! I wish I could have gave you company at the front. Very nice move up the standings guys!

That's a shame what happened to Tom and Tris. Tom dodged the bullet I threw at him but couldn't do it a 2nd time with Tris. :( It appears Tim didn't get the practice he needed. You can't let down your guard with drivers like Iestyn and Rob. Thanks for giving me room before T1 Tristan. I still messed up. I think I was trying to look at too many things at once. I braked too early and then turned in too late. I'm glad I didn't cause you any real trouble.

That was a great job you guys did, avoiding me after my T1 mistake! Makes me proud of all of you. Once the car was perpendicular to the direction I was supposed to be going I locked the brakes and waited for the car to almost come to a halt before I tried anything. Luckily there was a gap when my car came back across the track. I bet that was a lot of suspense for Tom wondering whether he could get by before the gap closed. I was extremely pleased to come to a halt just on the edge of the track without collecting anybody. Whew!!! Unfortunately I had no choice but to let everybody pass. :( Arf was rather kind letting me by easily shortly afterweards but nobody else was so generous. I either had to work real hard for position or rely on a spin or wreck.

My apologies for the aggression Clive and Jethro. I thought I stood a good chance of getting by without wrecking either of you but knew I might ruin my car. I thought I could still catch Tom at that point but knew I needed to go as fast as possible. Bouncing the car off the wall didn't really help over the long run but it bought me a lot of time at the moment. I never would have tried that crazy crap had our paces been similar.

I tread a very fine line today trying to stay as close as possible while staying back enough to avoid a collision. And risking my car's wheels to make two passes. I don't get much joy though pressuring the other drivers because I fell so far back in the field. I would have much more prefered to have tried to do it to Iestyn, Rob, Tris, and Tom although not so wildly.

I pushed the car extremely hard. I racked up a long list of mechanical problems until I opened up a gap on Jethro after the midpoint of the race. I didn't give the engine a break except for a lap or two, late in the race. It's very pleasing to get so much out of the car but it would have been nice to run some late race laps with an undamaged car.

My apologies Andreas for lapping you late in the race. I didn't realize you were in a close race with Andrew until I had passed you. I was trying to get into the 2:04's before the race ended. Why? I don't know. I shouldn't be so silly. The main reason I went ahead and lapped Andrew was because I wanted to try to even things between you two. Sorry Andrew. In the future I'll pay better attention. I should have backed off at the end and let you two race to the finish. Another lesson learned. The lesson I learned taking Rob and me out at Rouen paid off today. Don't lose focus during or after a spin.

Not a bad showing with half the cars finishing the race. This track can easily wipe out a large percentage of the field. Congrats to all the finishers :) and my commiserations to all the unfortunates. :(

I was determined to have a good time and I did!

Thanks guys. I appreciate you letting me race with you.

Squirrel with a car?  :P

I went back again at lunchtime on Monday (I work 5 mins drive from the woods in question) and found it buried in a pile of leaves. Amazingly it works perfectly still despite a night outdoors and being somewhat soggy when I found it  ;D

Moderation published.

Many thanks for your comments via the court system gents.  Very helpful in making sure I make the right decisions when moderating the incidents :thumbup2:

Good luck in the final round next Sunday.  There are 5 drivers in with a chance of the title so it should be an exciting race.  Parco Sempione is a tight track, you will need to be extra careful to make sure you get beyond half race distance!
