Clive and Geoffers have pointed me at this version of Monaco 1967 which looks just right.
GPLers will find the layout familiar. Please could people test it with your own systems to
see that the frame rate is acceptable, as it is quite heave graphics.

The big Cobra should be good to open up the bore of the tunnel a bit!
LOL we might see just how much John really does like Monaco if he can do a lap in that beast and still leave some paint on it!

Think it's a 472 Matt.

Did a few laps here on my slower machine, and frame rate is between 61 -135. It is a bit choppy at times
but seems drivable. Only thing that bothers me is that if you mess up the chicane you mostly end up
in the harbour. underwater  :o and there is no way out... so care is needed there.

If this is the same track as GPL uses, then I suspect that the chicane will catch a few victims  ;)

Anyone opting to use the 427 must have very large dangly bits to drive that beast around here. I doubt that those same dangly bits will still be in their normal position come the end of the race.  ::)

Fantastic!

I never want to use any other version of Monaco.   ;D

If frame rate is the number in the top right when you press Ctrl-F then it never dipped below 70 in an AI practice with 12 cars.  Mind you, I was a tad busy to notice most of the time.  ::)

It seems some people are stil using steam driven computers  :o
Please could anyone with an older rig do a couple of laps here to see that it is drivable
as I would like to make this track version final.

BTW

You can get out of the water.  I drove across the sea bed, smashed into the harbour wall and shot out of the water like a penguin with a killer whale hot on his tail fins!

Trouble is that I then landed upsidedown!   ::)

just tried this version of Moanaco on my ageing rig and although i only had 5 AI running all seemed OK.

Fwiw I have a dual core 2.8ghz and 2 Gb ram ( the old slow sort! apparently  ::) ) and a 1gb graphics card running on XP. I might invoke the "Enditall" programme before the race just to be sure that none of my valuable resources are wasted on other stuff.  ;)
pssst! I just had to try the 427 around here and wierdly  :o   the one lap I completed was within tenths of what I could achieve with what might be considered more appropriate machinery. OK. so all my laps were slow, and I am expecting those with dodgy DNA and green scaly skin to be sub 1:30 in race mode, but it was interesting.

I really don't think it's worth me doing this one  :(

I'm at 31.6 prf in the IROC which is about where Clive is in the 914, but I can't consistently get through the poxy chicane at race speed  >:(

My best effort so far is 7 laps before I'm in the drink, my worst is 5 IROCs in a row in the harbour.

If I slow down enough to make sure I get through someone is bound to run into me, then I've knackered up their race

The only thing I would say Simon,  is that you are unlikely to be the only driver struggling with the chicane. It is the single point that defines this track so expect a lot of spare parts lying about and a few others playing "safe" through that section.

Although the circuit layout is identical to GPL, there are quite a few cosmetic differences, the chicane is subtly different and requires a good deal more respect. In GPL I can nail the gas over the crest out of the tunnel and fully expect to take the chicane without lifting on every lap. I would not advise that approach for this race!   ;)

Blimey Simon 31.6! I tried the track for the first time last night & my best (of the few laps I actually got through the Chicane) was a 1.36, that was in the Ferrari. I tried the IROC first & found it very difficult around here, I normally get on well with it. Can't see there being too many finishers here!  :o

Lovely rendition of the old GPL-like circuit.  My lap times and those posted by others have me scratching my head, tho.  How can these cars go so fast?  I mean, my PB's in assorted F1 GPL classes are hardly any faster?  Mystified...

I had some misgivings about this version because of the chicane, but I like it
amd no one has suggested changing, ad I don't like to change tracks the week of an event
so we go with it. If you haven't already, then do a lot of testing through that chicane
as it really is "awkward"  :o  I have been testing with the Elan as it's small, I might
try the 914 as that should be handy round here.

OK Otto, hope to see you on Sunday.

Hopeless in tonights race. I had crashed so many times at the Chicane practicing, I became paranoid about it & was hopelessly slow through it. So just trundled around at the back keeping out of the way & hoping to reach the finish. Eventually the Chicane got me & I went for a swim.  ::)

Congrats to everyone who made it to the end, very well done.

Congratulations to Doni on a fine win and an inspired choice of car!

Congrats also to Otto and Simon for the rest of the podium spots.

Fantastic pace from Otto and Federico!

When Doni passed me it was the first time, since lap one, that I didn't have a clear track to aim at and like a complete idiot I clipped a curb an smacked a very solid lamp post.

I should have been dead but the engine still said 85% so I started her up and carried on.

Note to self:  Should have done better!

PS:  I was fuelled for 30 laps.  Where did I get that idea from?

Well!  If someone could explain to me how a 2nd-rate driver in a monster such as the 427CID Cobra can score a win at Monaco, I'd be happy to put forth their name for a Nobel Prize.  :)

No, wait!  I know how!  Lotsa luck.  Practically all good for me and not so for some top-gun runners.

I found the Cobra surprisingly accommodating round this classic circuit which, on the face of it, would be about the last choice one would make to take the start.  I tried all the cars for two laps and based upon my initial impressions, made the pick.  The Ferrari was a close second in the running as I was almost a fast and it was such a treat to fling about.  In the end, though, I went for the big snake.

For sure, I benefited from incidents involving Federico and Otto.  The latter was a startling affair involving Matt's get off.  Holy smokes!  What a shunt!  I really enjoyed dicing with Frex in the little Lotus and Clive in the Porker.  I'd get creamed in the corners only to yank back the time on the straights.  Surprisingly, the Cobra was able to haul down on the brakes with good authority; that was most surprising.  I didn't make too many mistakes but certainly went a little too deep here and there especially in the last corner; a couple of times, all I could see of the that corner was the advertising banner staring me square in the face!  As well, the fact that I managed to get through the chicane for 25 consecutive laps simply amazes me.  When things are going your way...

Some terrific action with Otto in the closing stages was a real thriller and if it weren't for his going a bit straight on in the Station Hairpin with only 1-1/2 laps to go, I'd have had to settle for second.

Looking forward to the next round...

Baulked by Federico at the start and lost 2 places before T1 - got back past Simon at the end of the lap, but then spent many laps chasing Clive. Good fun, but a wayward moment allowed Doni through and then it was a 3-way battle. Make that 4-way after Otto's unfortunate incident. Sneaked back past Doni at Mirabeau and homing in on Clive, only to inexplicably clip the barrier before the chicane head-on. Don't know how I managed that one..! But fortunately Esc'd out of the way before collecting anyone else (Doni and Otto were close behind). Great fun though until then.

Congrats Doni and podium.

I managed to get through the chicane for 25 consecutive laps..

Yep, and you didn't get your feet wet once.. Respect!

hey Clive!! can you copy me in on that note  about doing better??   :-\

I was more than happy with my pace in the 914 on race fuel and thought I had mastered the chicane. In hindsight I think it went wrong because I did not take the chicane flat in 5th as I had in practice and "played safe" by backing off down the hill. That changed the response of the front end and I "T" boned the barrier, followed by a cold bath.

Grats to Doni on getting the monster home in 1st place. Ironically I tried that car as well off line, but found the smaller brother a much more comfortable drive and almost as quick.....maybe next time.

Grats to podium and all those who finished.
