60fpsV2newmod does not work with the 67 cars. We'll want to be using 60fpsV2 as per http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4584.

- use 60fpsv2.xml with original 67 and old mods (not supporting long tracks)
- use 60fpsv2newmod.xml with 67patch and other mods which support long tracks

This says to me if you have patched your 67s with "1967_PATCH_v1.3_Setup" you will have to use 60fpsv2newmod.

Afaik the gplinstall_beta_1.07 includes this patch...

As long as you start your 67s with the gplc67.exe you use the patched!
If you start gpl.exe.... ::)

V2newmod crashes '67 GPL as soon as I hit the green button, and I have the 1.3 patch.

V2 works.

V2 and V2newmod are incompatible.

Go ahead, use V2newmod, have fun on your empty server.

Ignore all that, something was messed with my install.

I have the 1.3 mod.

I've tried both 60fpsV2 and 60fpsV2newmod.

60fpsV2 doesn't work (won't get past the GPL menu when I click the green button).

60fpsV2newmod does work.

So on my system the 60fpsV2newmod is the right option to use with the 67 1.3 mod.

However I do have problems with GPL crashing to desktop with 60fpsV2newmod when I press the green button (happened in the 65 test race at Spa).  It doesn't happen all the time which is infuriating.  It might be that Dean has a similar problem to me.  Need to do some more tests to isolate the problem.

Just joined a race on Dean's server via IGOR.  Looks like Dean has got 60fpsV2newmod working OK :).

However I still have CTD problems.  Back to pits and rejoin track a few times and it is OK then for some reason get a CTD when I try to rejoin  ???

There must be a single setting in the NV graphics settings be wrong ::)

I had such behaviour sometimes.
Has to do with GPL using a different resolution and aspect ratio in game and in menues.

Try to reset the NV program to standard settings, then begin to change step after step to the now optimized settings

I agree (and I hope it is and I find it!)

Sounds feasible

I'd started to do that and it made things worse.  However I think you  are right and I'll persevere.

I don't appear to have the same issues off-line.  I haven't had GPL crash when running locally which is a little worrying.  More testing required.  If you could keep you server up on 60fps for testing that would be very helpful.

If any other game gave me this much grief, it'd be off my drive sooooo quick. :P

Ok, well, Phil, when you joined my server I was running V2, not newmod, but people were able to join with newmod (I dunno, didn't think it could happen ). Much testing, confusion (Targa would load with GT cars, but not 67s [in 36 or any flavour of 60]), and hair-pulling, I think I've got this sussed, and Spa67 is playable in all mods at 60 (drops to ~45 exiting La Source, mid-50s past the pits, solid 60 everywhere else), at least on the lowrez. I can get the other versions to load (thanks to the 4GB patch) and they run OK. Given my system specs (2.5GHz AMD quadcore, Win7/64, 4GB RAM, GTX650Ti 1GB), I shouldn't even have the hiccup past the pits, but I don't know what else to do.

Some of the graphics recommendations are completely wrong for my rig. Vsync has to be forced off or it halves my framerate. AF doesn't affect it (much), so I've got 8x on. The one thing that did really good for me was switching to "Run Z Buffer in Separate Thread" in GEM+, so Phil should give that a try (might need to have "Threaded Optimization" enabled in nVidia Inspector to get that to work). Everything else in GEM+ or the nVidia Inspector toolbox either had little effect or cludged the game completely.

Strange thing though, with most types of AA I tried (or none), framerate does not scale at all with resolution, ie. game runs the same at 640x480 as at 1080p.

I wanted to try these changes too because I am having lower FPS after La Source and through the pit section. I was able to turn on "Threaded Optimization" in the Nvidia Control Panel. But I do not see an option in GEM for "Run Z Buffer in Separate Thread." Is that different than the Run Z Buffer with grouping option? I might like to try it, if it is something different.

Would copying the "pit" files from the "Spa67_LITE" folder and paste them in the spa67 track folder improve Frame Rates?

pitads2.3do
pitads1.3do
pit1.3do
pit1u.3do

LOL, I'm struggling to get my rig sorted too and I've got not hair left to pull out!  Thanks for the info, when I do get this sorted I'm going to try to write up some guidelines.  I would like people to learn from my mistakes.  As you say any other game would be in the skip by now but GPL is worth the effort :cursing:

Not sure if this will help, but I recently found my GPL would freeze at Spa67 with D3Dv2 when about 200 yds up the road from Les Combes with "Toss Biggest Mips" set to 0. I normally run 1 as a performance/detail compromise. 0 gave me great visuals on the cockpit dials, but 1 or more means the game doesn't lock the display 35 seconds on a lap round here. Try it with a value of 1 and see.

Tried it, didn't help :(.  Thanks for the suggestion though.

It's one of the options in the drop-down menu above the "Z Buffer with Grouping" one (some report good results using extreme grouping, but makes no difference here). Forgot to mention and very important: all of my settings are for OGLV2. D3D is finicky and slow on this box.

For my ATI AMD GPU this "Run Z Buffer in Separate Thread" is the worse option! 20-30fps at the pits...

"Z Buffer with grouping" runs perfect here ::)

A screen freeze before getting to Burnenville on Lap01.  Swell.

It was nice to be back after a long break. I'm trying out my connection once again and it was actually rock solid  :). The same couldn't be said about my race effort and I crashed out just short of 50% distance  :-\.

I'll be giving the other fun races a go to see how my connection holds up. If it keeps on being solid, I'll signing up for the next season for sure :)

That was good fun, was not expecting to win and did not deserve to win, but I'll take it, especially after lap 1!

Congrats Jethro, Alex! It's shame about Mark. :(

 I finished 3rd. Aren't I lucky?

I started at the back because I was losing a lot of fps into Eau Rouge. 55fps into Eau Rouge by myself, worse with cars in sight. No Anti-aliasing and few track side objects make this track significantly more difficult for me. I lose a sense of depth and many important points of reference. Only reason I'm not getting worse fps is that I edited the draw distances in the track.3do. I've got some pretty nasty popups at Eau Rouge.

I'm glad I could actually run the track somewhat decent. Until I upgrade my computer, I may have to start some races at the back.

It was fun. My commiserations to all the drivers who weren't so lucky.
