(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Note earlier race start time.

Ooohh, looking forward to this  :jumpjoy:

Did you have this set up the whole time Tony ? (in which case I've been sleeping in class), or did you pick the track(s) after my inquiries about Loch Rannoch a few days ago ? (in which case a big  :thumbup2:)

Cheers,
Erling

Is the second race on a reversed track as well? or is it the "normal" direction????

The second race is using the Short track. It isn't strictly the reversed track going the other way around. It does state this in the race announcement  ;)

Good for us newbies to know the history of this event. Yes R.I.P Lawrence Clemo.

This looks like it could be one of those last man standing wins events. I tried the short circuit in the DB4 and found a rather stupid cut track on a hump at the top of a rise so beware. I haven’t quite mastered the knack of steering the car whilst it’s airborne yet so it’s difficult to avoid.

Thought I’d use the E-Type on the reverse circuit. The graphics are pretty but look a bit old fashioned to me and I didn’t like the way that cow was looking at me when I parked my Jag against a stone wall. Anyway I needed to concentrate so hard I didn’t have much time to look at the scenery.

I think I will be patriotic and take the English cars although I have a feeling the German classic supercar may turn out to be the quickest. It seems much more docile and easy to drive than the Aston.

I think I know exactly where you mean; it's the jump on the short circuit after the long uphill section. The cut is avoidable but you need to get a good line before take off.

As this event is not part of a Championship I think we can relax the cut rules for this. I will make sure they are turned off for these races.

Just downloaded the cars and tracks for a quick look.

What an insane challenge!! something Ligel would have enjoyed. I knew him through GPL where he raced in true gentlemanly fashion with GBGPL and obviously he exhibited the same good humour and grace in GTL. One of lives true gents and fitting that he is remembered here.

I have the cartoon he did of me with the 67 Honda GP car, printed on a T shirt, and it occasionally gets aired at The Goodwood Revival.

Anyone else got issues with the sounds on the Aston?  Mine appears to be a silent hybrid with occasional backfires!!  ???

Sorry to be a PIA Tony, not having done this before with GTL.

Is the 1 lap qually a free for all, i.e. we all take our chances on getting a clear lap,  or do we go out "under stewards orders" so that there are only ever 2 cars on track at one time. One doing a fast qualifying run and one on his "out lap"?

If it's like earlier races with 'hot lap' qualifying, then there's no order; you have to take your chance - and ppl on outlaps should be extra vigilant for hot lappers coming from behind...  ;)

Ok ... hehe!   that should be fun if we have a big grid  ::)

I have downloaded that DB4 3 times and installed. There seems to be a load of files in the folder and I am using #9 ( first car on the list), but still no engine sound, other than occasional backfire. I have wind and tyre effects...maybe it runs on Whisky?

Any suggestions guys, as it feels kind of eerie rushing around a loch in a silent car, but maybe that is the future of motorsport???

Have you tried any of the other ones in the package ?  I'm using #356 and have no trouble with sound.  Did download the car at an earlier date though, so maybe it's changed since then ?

This is the content of my DB4 folder:

There is no organised qualifying. You leave the pits and take your chance. Perhaps drivers on hotlaps could switch their headlamps on to warn others of your approach?

The folder contents that Erling shows match mine exactly. The .AUD file is the one that contains the sounds. Do the Merc and Jag give you sound?

Drivers finishing their hotlap should hit ESC after crossing the finish line.

If it helps Clive, make sure you transfer the Game Data folder into GTL as it holds a Team and Sounds Folder. It is tempting to just drop the Team Folder into GTL, but as the DB4 doesn't rely on any existing Aston audio files, you will end up with a quiet runner. Sounds obvious, but I made that mistake first time loading!

I'm not sure I follow what you mean Steve?  Why would I be transferring a Game Data folder? The only one I have is already there in the GTL directory???

When the installer prompts for a location, I point it at my GTL directory and let it do its thing. In just the same way as I have with any other cars or circuits that are posted for forthcoming events.

All of the cars show up in the Team sub folder of the Game Data folder, just as all the circuits are listed in the "Locations" folder. I can see the DB4 folder alongside the DB1 and DB2  variants, and if I scroll down the list, past all of the other cars I can get to the E type and the Merc.
In just the same way the track list under locations has all of the circuits we have visited plus the originals, all downloaded and installed with the installer in one neat list

The Merc and  the E type work fine, absolutely no probs with the ( glorious ) sound on those. I have compared my file list to the list that Erling posted and they match. Even tried a couple of the other DB4 options..still very tranquil here  :-\ and i want to hear that Aston engine at full revs !!!! :taz:

very puzzled  :-\

You might check your Sound/cars file in Gamedata, it should contain a folder named AMDB4_SA that has about 24 .wav files.  Also might try a new download and extraction.  Have had them miss stuff before.  Hope you get it fixed!

Thanks Bob, that AMDB4_SA file is conspicuous by its absence!!

I will try yet another d/load and see if I get it this time??! Driving what sounds like a milk float around this track at 120mph is just NOT right!

EDIT....yup this time the AMDB4 file appeared and we have glorious surround sound of cams and whizzy bits...along with the screech of tortured metal against walls, breaking suspension parts and smashed headlights!!

Thanks all

oh dear!!  me again?? ??? sorry to spoil your Sunday mornings guys. Thought I would try out Tony's practice server , just to be sure everything was working before Monday evening.

All cars work off line...no issues ...no problems. Tried the track in both directions........ no issues....no problems ( other than getting over that ruddy jump without landing on my nose!!)

DB4 and Jag work OK on practice server, but Merc 300SL comes up with "car not present on server".

I assume that I should be using the same Merc 300 SL LM55 that we use in the other series??
as it is the only one I have in my garage?

Oh dear Clive, what shall we do with you?

No the Merc is not the one used in the LM55 series. It's the Merc that is a standard car included with GTL. It's called the Mercedes 300SL and it should be showing in your GTC-65 folder. There are two cars included, No's 455 & 456.

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 15 Lawrence Clemo Memorial Trophy - Loch Rannoch - May 11
Post by: EvilClive on May 10, 2015, 01:01:12 PM +0100
I did some digging in the GTL directory and the GTC-65 folder, and lo and behold there are folders for cars 455 & 456 listed there alongside the LM55 folder. i temporarily moved the LM55 folder to another place and tried again...GTL still only offers the LM55 car ??? or the 300 SEL which is that monster saloon.

I even re-loaded a virgin copy of GTL on my remote/archive hard disk (as a source for any future missing files,) and copied across a new set of folders for 455 & 456, just to be sure that they had not become corrupted.
Still the only Merc 300sl on offer is the LM55 version.

I am about to re boot the PC, although I cannot believe that is necessary, and try again.
After that it's housework/dog walking/and cooking...............so this topic might go quiet for a while..............."ooh! thank goodness " I hear across the forums!!  lol

Thanks Tony, just dived back on the PC to see if anyone had answered.

No! the std 300SL does not appear, but the 55 LM does.???  I have even tried allowing ALL cars to be selectable by ticking all of the boxes, in the hope that the SL would show up, but it remains invisible. I also bought a couple of 300 SEL's, just in case I needed a sound file(?) from there.

Thanks very much Tony.

Now I can select the std 300SL.
But, I renamed my merc 300 folder before installing the file you gave me, just so that I could compare the contents. I have been through it twice and all of the contents match exactly!! even in the sub folders for the 455 and 456 cars.

I could believe that something got corrupted on my PC when I have been adding new cars and tracks, if I had not copied that 300SL folder directly from a virgin GTL install this morning. Now I am completely bemused  ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

I guess I should just say "oh well" at least I have the car working now, but it is niggling away at the back of my mind!!  :-\

Just a tad miffed!!! to put it mildly  :-\ After all of the hassle over the weekend.

joined the server with plenty of time to get a few laps in open practice and sort out a setup.

Did one flyer on race fuel, that was a bit messy.
Crossed the S/F line and hit escape to do some tweaking....... GTL freezes and sound goes into continuous loop like a machine gun.

Have to ctrl-alt-del PC to stop it and reboot....fire up GTL again...join server....load 4 or 5 of the drivers.....blank screen and freeze again. 3 times I tried to join and each time GTL crashed to black screen after loading a few of the names.
Currently contemplating the rather short life expectancy of this PC.........................................................
Off for a cup of tea, might see you in 2nd race....might not :(

Back for race 2.......same prob twice................... :hang:

I hope you guys did Lawrence proud with some good gentlemanly racing, really sad that i could not join in.  :-\

This was a very enjoyable evening's racing; wish Lawrence could have been there with us.

These tracks are just crazy, but in a very exhilarating way.  In offline practice, I found the Merc to be the most stable jumper (or lander  :)), so had to be it for race 2.   The Aston is my favorite of this trio, so wanted it for race 1, although it's probably the most difficult to drive.  Some tweaks to the setup lessened its tendency to go out of control whenever the rear wheels left the ground.

Race 1:
Got lucky in qual, with a clear lap. Very surprised, but of course delighted to find myself on pole.  Had problems getting the Aston off the line, as it would bog down in first when you dropped the clutch, even at close to max revs.  Thus Flash shot ahead, but lost momentum under the archway, allowing me to get back in front.  He was my close shadow over the following laps, until a small gap developed. Flash got replaced by Jose later in the race, but the gap was never more than around 5 secs, so couldn't afford mistakes - and had to keep pushing till the end.   Very chuffed with winning this one - and in my favorite of the cars too   Grats to Jose and Bob on the other two podium places.

Race 2:
Here Jose was back in his usual place on pole.  I made a poor start, losing another place to a Jag.  I got an awkward line into T2/3 and thus got a bit wobbly. Got a bump from behind that send me onto the grass and - I thought - down to the bottom of the field.  I thought the car that hit me had moved on. Only when I looked at the replay, did I realise that the consequences were more severe for it than me.  Owe Bob a huge apology for this   Very sorry about that; had I known at the time, I would have waited for you.  It looked like you were doing well in these races, so I'd be happy to swap finishing position with you.

Blissfully ignorant about the above, I set about chasing the field.  Made up places when other drivers made mistakes.  Had a good scrap with Kurt over a few laps, until he got a little out of shape at the bridge, allowing me past.  Later passed Tony, when he had a moment, and was up to 3rd. Later on the same lap, I stuffed it myself. Drifted too close to the wall, when exiting under the archway, hit it and spun the car.  Could almost hear Tony laughing when he passed me..  ;D  Couldn't prevent Flash from catching and passing me too, but now started a great duel between the 3 of us. We swapped places repeatedly, but eventually both Tony and Flash suffered bigger problems than me at the jump, so a gap was formed.  Had about 18-19 secs to Hayman in 2nd, but no chance of catching him.  Very chuffed with 3rd though, except for the incident with Bob  :(

Grats to Jose and Hayman, and commiserations to Clive and all who suffered severe problems during the races.

Cheers,
Erling

2 good fun races for me.
for reverse race I took Aston. hmmm? wrong choice? hard to drive that car (first time in it) some dangerous jumpings in last corner part of track. but best jump was the one, when i landed on top of the wall at the sharp righthander...............I heard Tony ........say...........lol..............., right he was.
second race I used Jag. first time for me too, but that car has exellent handling. I was behind Jose.............and NOT wondering, why the gap between us got larger and larger, every lap nearly 2 secs, wow! damn good alien..................... :D

thxs for great and fair gentlemendriving

greets hayman

Report races:

Great races yesterday.
Good fun with all you guys. The first race in reverse track was very interesting. I think that I was wrong in the car choice but I don't had time for practice and I could use the same merc setup that I used in Rouen.
Good battle the first laps with Hayman and Flash (RedLine Team) ;)
when I got overtake both the gap with Erling was about 5 seconds and pushed hard but the gap don't go down and finally 2nd place for me. Great pace with Aston, mate!  :notworthy:

The second  race was better. I knew the track about 3 years ago and was easy to drive with Jag. Only in the crazy jump had to be especially careful. But, in the rest of the track the jag was incredible stable and fast.

Bad luck with the start Erling. It is very possible that you had been 2nd place and we would have shared the virtual trophy.

Thanks all for run.
Special thanks to Tony!

Cheers!

Very enjoyable pair of races.  R1 I took the E Jag, which is a old friend to me, I use it often to learn new tracks.  I like big cars with wide power bands and the Jag's are that to me.  Over at GC we have a Jag Sedan mod that has a sorta E motor in it that I have driven in a lot of races, but is now "crapp" because of weight added, for no good reason I might add!.  Enough whining... Anyway got a podium which hasn't happened for a long long time by just driving the track and a lot of luck by people spinning out.  R2 I took the AM and as said before had a bad time getting it moving at the green, and then kind of hung back a little as cars were going all over the place in front and beside me.  Met up with Erling in a bad way, no problem Bud, just a racing deal to me, saw you shoot in front of me but couldn't slow in time.  What really hurt was that I landed in a ditch with the nose against the wall and because of this was stuck for what seemed like a eternity trying to back out.  Then just took a couple of deep breathes and took off after the field, passed some and got some places by spins.  Ended up in 7th by some miracle.  Last couple of laps I came up on misnoimas, his tires were shot and mine were too so rather than challenge him and crash us both out just followed him to the finish.  Passed Tony who had ran out of fuel, didn't know it at the time or I would have pushed you across.  Good fun on a fun quirky set of tracks.

Wow, lot of blathering huh?

No access here to replays so from memory.....

Race 1 - Aston. Had problems during quali where it slowly dawned on me that I hadn't seen any other drivers on the track for some time. Realised I had a server problem so had to exit/rejoin and forfeit my excellent (for me) 1:38 lap, rejoining with no time left to put in another hot lap :(. So, starting from the back, I was pleased to eventually cross the line in 4th place. Bill, no worries about your overshoot, if anything it made me more focused, and I quite enjoyed our "last waltz" at the first bend :D

Race 2 - Jag. 3 into 1 never works, but I somehow found myself the filling in an unwanted sandwich at the bend approaching the bridge lap 1. The Jags body was squashed so tightly from both sides (no worries about who the drivers were) that the car shot, cork-like into the air, landing on all 4 wheels, facing the right direction, with the engine running, but on the narrow pedestrian walkway suspended by the side of the bridge :o With the rest of the drivers long gone, I was on my own with nowhere to go. The silence was interrupted by a revving engine getting nearer and nearer and I saw Old Geezer come back to see what was going on, before he rejoined the race. Thanks for the brief company Bob  Had you got caught within the barriers too, perhaps? (Ok, just read your ditch comment) With the walkway the same width as the car and no way forward, I reversed for about 30secs and eventually found a gap back onto the track. I managed to outdo your first lap time Bob of 2:52 with a 3:24 and almost a whole lap down with barely a 100 yards completed ::) So with a heavily crumpled bonnet, I drove like Pasta Maldonado al dente style (sorry for the corny joke) and managed to put in half a dozen mid 45 laps. But I was always going to be a lap behind and with my head still spinning from the earlier acrobats I hope I was gentlemanly enough with letting you guys pass me.

Despite all that, enjoyed both races. And having run out of fuel a few weeks ago, I know how you must have felt Tony :whistling:

Hey Steve:
Have to confess the reason I came back your way was that my head was spinning after I got back on the track and started in the wrong direction until the "Wrong way STUPID" message popped up--LOL!!!  Don't tell anybody OK......

Your secret's safe with me Bob   If you had seen me reversing for 30 seconds, that would have really confused you :D

I enjoyed the evening. It felt more like a Rally Stage than a race track though. But good fun all the same.

Race 1

I think I may have had the wrong diff setting (I mean final drive or diff ratio) for the E-Type for it seemed to lack grunt on the uphill drag and was red lining down the other side. Felt it compromised my race a bit but maybe it was how the car was and I was a driving too slow.

Race 2

I had not done a handful of completed practice laps on the short circuit before the race in the DB4 so I started very cautiously and was gradually getting quicker as the race went on and driving quite neatly if somewhat slowly. With a couple of laps to go I had a recovering Eifelblitz slowly closing on me but felt I had everything under control as he seemed a bit quicker though some of the corners but I could pull a gap again on the straights.  Then I messed up the big jump and lost speed and time getting the car straightened up letting him just get past. I made the mistake of trying to match his speed though a tricky corner in order to be on his tail for the next straight and slightly lost the back of the Aston and tapping a wall. After that the car seemed all over the place or maybe it was the tyres or the driver but the last lap was very scruffy with the car wanting to go sideways and I just about managed to keep it going to the flag passing the unfortunate Tony who ran out of fuel and was lucky to finish just in front of a recovering Bob M.

Grats podiums and all.
