Season 28 Privateers Trophy - Round 2 - Stardust

Round 2 will be run at Stardust. It is an incredible well made add-on track for GPL, and very drivable. The polo's around the track will hurt you, but are not as deadly as like Mexico, as far I have experienced. Good luck to all!

Stardust International Raceway was an auto racing track in Spring Valley, in the Las Vegas Valley. It featured a flat, 3-mile (4.8 km), 13-turn road course, and a quarter-mile drag strip. It was built in 1965 by the Stardust Hotel and Casino to attract high rollers to the hotel.  In 1966 it began hosting the season finale of the Can-Am championship. In 1968 the USAC Championship Car series held a race at Stardust. The hotel was sold in 1969, and the new owners largely abandoned the track. Real estate developers Pardee Homes bought the land and built the Spring Valley community on it.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for Lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of T6 on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=476&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Could have sworn I'd been at this track before;  it certainly sounded familiar. Must have read about it re: some fun race.

So,  ready to join the server for the qually session & realised track not installed... eek!   Then quick visit to the internet setupshop & the cupboards were bare.  Just picked someone's Kyalami setup that I'd used before with symmetrical values.

Unfortunately,  the lack of any landmarks made it a bit more tricky to pick up the flow.   Made an ok start considering & despite too many offs [including a couple of real big time-wasters!]   it seems that others must have just had their own bad luck.   Was hopeful of relieving teamie Billy of his good position in the closing stages;  but was not to be.   Good going that fellow!
Of course, good going DR & podium too.

Overall,  I should be somewhat satisfied of not requiring the spare car.  The extra 9 laps of fuel probably didn't hinder me that much;  I certainly did not seem to notice the severe suspension damage or the engine problem either!   Of course, maybe I should have taken the Honda after all...

Cheers all,
Dave.

One complete engine failure and one misshift took my chances for third place.

I Took it home, at least not even a lap distance between me and 8th position after 19 Laps with
a small engine. Hope everyone got around me well.

Regards, Bastian

Very lucky win for me.
Axel was quicker with the Honda than me with Brabham.

Bastian overtook me at the start, but quickly I could overtake him for the second place when he made a little mistake.
I was surprised to, almost easily, reduce the gap with Axel and tried to put a big pressure on him.
I had a little stress when I saw Bernie in front of us driving on the middle of the road as we were taking him one lap, I lost 2 or 3 seconds but could again reduce the gap with Axel.
I saw him making little mistakes and I was optimistic ...but after 10 laps my engine exploded and I had to shift-R + stop and Go.
At this moment, Axel had 25-30 seconds and I was 15-20 seconds before Bastian and Philippe, so I thought the best was to assure my 2nd place without taking any risk.
That's why I was really surprised to see the gap with Axel from 30 seconds to 9 seconds. But I still couldn't think it was possible to rejoin him ...
When suddenly, I saw Axel spinning and I overtook him for the 1st position !!!
The end of the race was easy, I just tried to not explode my engine. On the last lap I let Dave Curtis overtook me (he was one lap behind) to give him a chance for the 4th place but unfortunately he went out of the track ...Hope this was not because he was surprised by my slow speed.

Congrats David, well done Axel and Philippe for podium, and finishers! Great finishing rate at such a (difficult) track with the polo's. Commiserations to the retirements.

Red zone was clean I noticed, great job by all with a difficult turn after the start. In particular David Rainier did a great job being aware and giving room to Bastian.

Please report incidents before next monday. Thanks.

PS: thanks to Axel for server duties and importing results and replay.

Had some problems connecting to & staying on the server.  I was planning on 40 minutes qualifying to learn the track a little better. As it was I had about 10 minutes. Staying on track here is a real challenge & I opted for the 1.40 lap times with safe braking points, rather than the chancier 1,38’s. Clearly some were struggling with the difficult track &/or in sufficient practice. Team-mate DC was within a whisker of fastest lap – offset with a fair amount of off roading. I lapped a couple of drivers who were at a similar level of pace to me but had wandered off track at various stages. They were very courteous about  letting me past. Well done to Rainier for the win, Cookie & Phillipe who ran a very solid race. 4th place in the Cooper was a reasonable return. Zandvoort next – so no excuses!

Very fortunate for me the third place, certainely I raced "clean", but Bastian was faster than me.
Sorry Bastian, no chance for you.

I will not race the next race, and probably Carthage again !

Thanks for the organizers.

I'm happy to see Dave winning, and bravo Axel !!

Can anyone tell me why if I use the 60fpsv2newmod, gpl67c keeps crashing? As soon as I hit green, it CTDs. Same offline and online. Tried deleting and going back to known good but no dice. Fine with 60fpsv1 but not v2newmod. Any ideas? All the other mods (e.g. 65 with 60fpsv2newmod) are fine.

Try to start a Targa lap with the 67s with 36fps.
If this does not work you have not installed the 1.3 patch for the 67s ;)
