Season 28 Privateers Trophy - Round 7 - Willow Springs

Round 7 will take place at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park. It is located in Willow Springs near Rosamond and Lancaster, California, about an hour north of Los Angeles. Willow Springs is a historic race track, in existence more than 60 years. It is the oldest permanent road course in the United States. Construction began in 1952, with the inaugural race held on November 23, 1953. The main track is a challenging 2.5-mile (4.0 km) long road course that is unchanged from its original 1953 configuration. The interesting elevation changes and high average speeds make it a favorite of many road racing drivers.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for Lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to T7/Wing's Leg on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=476&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Despite the penalty and the start from the last position, but with a touch of fortunr, this is my best result.
In the last laps there was Curtis very aggresive......but not enough.

Sorry for my start, Axel and Billy (?)... it was not intentional, I lost the control when I pushed on the throttle.
After the start, my race was easy until lap 33 where my engine exploded.

I think I have to congratulate Francesco who should be the winner after moderation.
Sorry again Axel and the third guy on the grid (Billy probably).

Grats to Dave C for the best lap.

Wasn't expecting to make that;  what with Canada tonight  (watching;  not visiting!).
As a result, decided to not waste the additional tokens that I'd provisionally allocated at the start of the season.

However, was able to join for the last moments of qually; so duly downloaded a setup.    However, a couple of outlaps indicated that staying on-track for an entire lap was a problem.  So dug out someone else's Nurby setup (as I figured that would probably be fairly balanced);  but missed the opportunity to actually test it & also missed the start flag whilst topping the fuel up. So started approx 25seconds adrift from the pitlane.

Eventually managed to get out the pitlane & promptly had some excursions at some picturesque corners.

Somehow caught up with some other drivers;  clearly some misfortune elsewhere!  Thanks Bernie for not allowing me to collect you at T1 when a face appeared at the door ("BED!") and I missed the braking correctly point,  but found the locking/sliding off point. Also managed to crash into some climbing frame that had been built the the middle of some desert area (?!).

Apologies to MT, I just span out on the exit of that tricky corner & guess you had nowhere else to go.

Not commenting on the start,   but congrats to DR on the general pace throughout.
Caught Fran late in the closing stages but the promptly threw away the gained ground a few times;  although that then clearly fired me up as I popped in a FL, to then throw it all away again.  Never mind,  potential 3rd was way better than I could have ever imagined.   I think I owe that to the test 65 session earlier in the year; & when I read the race posts for that event before joining tonight,   I'd handily added a helpul tip for myself :)

Could have also done without carrying another 11laps of fuel around,   but maybe that helped balance the car.  No idea where the the FL came from; must have been a really good tow from Fran.

Cheers all,
Dave.

Rather dismal outing. Quallified 3rd which was fine.  Rainier’s Cooper had an interesting start, Cookie reacted smartly by cutting out to the right but this caught me out & I tapped his rear wheel. On the replay it seems as though this should have been avoidable but it didn’t feel like that in real time . A few laps later Cookie repaid the compliment as we were exiting the last turn. I couldn’t make that turn without braking, perhaps Cookie did?

I made one silly mistake downshifting to first in the Budweiser bend. Maybe my sub-conscious mind was distracted by beer! I then had one off which cost me a wheel and a SnG. Apart from that it wasn’t too bad.

It seems several drivers ran much quicker in the race than in qualifying so my hopes of making any dent in the lead held by Michael & Dave C made no difference in the last few laps. Well done to Fran on 2nd & thanks to Rainier for popping an engine so I could at least finish on the lead lap. I don’t think getting sideways on the starting grid is a penalty situation so your win should stand.

I think I have to congratulate Francesco who should be the winner after moderation.

Let's not jump to conclusions, but from what I saw it was a genuine racing incident as you didn't put a block on Axel but you got wheelspin shifting into 2nd gear, and had to lift and correct. Axel did a great job taking avoiding action, but this caught out Billy since Axel lost a lot of his momentum...

I will submit a report though, for more feedback.

PS: great job Francesco, most places gained, most laps on track, most consistent driver and a fine podium! :) Also great job by Dave C. starting from pitlane! ;)

Oh ****!!
I was second behind my friend Dave Rainier, but I had explosed my engine !
I was in brm, but no good choice, my tires was very hot !
Thanks for the organisation, and grats to the podium.
