S28 - Friday Trophy - Round 13 - Formula 2 - Zolder 67

The 13th race of this season will be at Surfers Paradise International Raceway, a motor racing complex at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The 3.219 kilometres (2.000 mi) long circuit was designed and built by Keith Williams, a motor racing enthusiast who also designed and built the Adelaide International Raceway (AIR) in South Australia in 1972.  The circuit was mainly used for Sports Car racing most notably in 1966 when Jackie Stewart and Andrew Buchanan won the Group A Sports Cars race in a Ferrari 250LM.  Formula 1 cars never raced here but there was a race for Open-Wheel cars in 1975 in the guise of the Australian Formula 1 series.  

Remember: for the LIGHT drivers the most popular car will be dropped for the rest of the season! Look at the bottom!

ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.
If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded if you cannot s+g before the finish line in the pit lane.

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.

I don't know if i'm unfortunate or Dave lucky.At 2 laps from the end the engine blow and David was behind me.
Axel about the frame rate i rebooted the PC and all was OK but just in time to race, with badluck anyway.
I wait your setup for Montjuich.

I thought it was F2 tonight somewhere else -  that's what I get for skimming the 1st post & apparently ignoring the subject line!

Just about joined in time for the flag drop;   there was a shopping trip/meal that was getting all a bit late.  Nevermind;   practice would not have made any difference.

Don't know what happened from the start,   but was happy following leader Fran with about a 600+ yard gap back to the fast men.  That didn't last long & they were round & round again.
Kept with Fran most of the time he was there.   I had a few minor offs & eases to be lapped;    but was able to edge up again.  However,   lacked the grunt/ability to get past.

I think it was a both Fran - you were unlucky & I was there to take not-last-place from you :)   Otherwise, that place was yours.
I saw a puff of black smoke & a rod;   I thought it came from Dean's car.  Was just about to pull to Fran's side of the track;   he sportingly pulled off the track.

Shame about the turnout,   but it was busy the entire race.

Yes, there was a mistake in the servers track.ini and stall 2(3rd) was missing....

So we waited for Dean ;)

I could not follow Greg as he pulled away out of every corner, maybe a shorter 3rd gear...

I'd tried a 60/60/3 diff late in practice, and it seemed a bit more stable, so I went with it, but car didn't want to turn as easy, and couldn't keep up with either of you today.

Maybe it's just because I was looking at the back of a Chap2F for a long time;  but it seemed to me that there was a bicycle hanging out the back...

After the race i tried the Porsche not considered by me for this race.
With the Chap i was able to go under 1,13(1,12 98 not replied into the race) but with the Porsche i was able to do an 1,13 30 in easy way.No comparison about the driving,the Porsche is not fast on the straight but into the curve is very easy to turn.
An error that for sure have changed nothing,i'm quite sure that the engine or other mechanics part would fail.

It's a shame Iestyn is still suffering from computer problems. He may have been much faster than I was. I made a mistake before the race ever started that Iestyn surely would have made me pay for, like overfueling the T260 at Hockenheim. More on that later. That's two races in a row I've been lucky not to face Iestyn. He may have denied me the recent win at Nurburgring.

The Porsche drove great here, but then it drives great everywhere.


5.03 Axel. It would carry me through the first left hand turn and to the end of the next straight.


That's the same differential I used. :)

I got lucky waiting for Dean after the start. Axel gave me the lead. I think he would have beat me into T1 with a proper start. Then, all I could probably do, would be to wait for Axel to make a mistake. I had to push hard and use the grass to pass Fran in practice. Starting from the front, I pulled away early until my tires started overheating. I ran wide twice brushing a wall and then hit a tire in the second to the last turn and spun. That put Axel right back on my tail. I was a little worried at that point. I thought you might be able to take advantage of me with my scorching left side tires. I got it together pretty quick though and immediately set a fast race lap after the spin. As long as I was smooth, my tires stayed good, but any time I pushed for a little more speed they overheated in the center. I could cruise along at 1:10.5 later, and had an ideal lap of 1:09.23 showing in prib, but every time I tried to set a lap in the 9s I overheated the tires and lost traction. I realized my mistake after the race. I set my tire pressures to 32 psi when warm. I forgot it was supposed to be 28 psi on the Porsche. :lol:

Even with incorrect tire pressures, the Porsche still drove well. I like the 330 better but the 910 is one of my favorites in GPL. It's an excellent car for learning a new track, especially the longer tracks. It helped me tremendously to memorize the Nurburgring and Targa when the Ferraris I had been using, kept frustrating me. It's easier to learn when you don't go flying into the weeds at such a high velocity. :)

This has to be one of my favorite flat tracks too. The only other one that comes to mind is Stardust. I liked it more with the Porsche than I did driving the BT23 here. The Can Ams ought to be interesting here.

On the technical side, I turned off the AA and AF. To start the race, I only displayed the track position board. I got a few stutters occasionally but nothing very bad. After I opened a lead on Axel I turned on the sector times and tire temperature boards too. When I get stutters now, it seems to be related to a large change in view distance.

Thanks guys. It's great fun. It would have been better with a larger field of cars.
