Not racing for a while.  Just had cataract operation on my left eye so vision not good enough.  If this is ok, right eye to be done in a few weeks.  Will be back when I can.

Norm H  (thanks to Mrs H for typing this)!!

Hope the op turns out successful Norm! Best of luck  :)

I'll be racing here but as with Monza I don't really expect much from the whale....

At least it sounds like the first cataract op when well, Norm.  Good news on that.  I sincerely trust that the next procedure goes equally so.  You'll be missed but never fear.  We'll keep a chair 'round the fire reserved for you.

Hope the eyes are enhanced for next season when you return post-ops  ;)

PS. I always liked on Crash Team Racing (playstation game, think mario kart), a villainous character named N-Gin  ;D

Made it back home five minutes too late to make the start.  The gang insisted we stop at MacDonald's.  Thanks, Ronald.  :(

Seriously, sorry to hear Doni.

Kind of a frustrating event for me, suffered from hick-ups, more in traffic, not sure what it was/is...caused me to make many mistakes...

Was looking forward to a close race at the front, but when I tried to avoid Iestyn spinning I got in Axel's path or so, and lost 10s or so...then overdrove the car, and left sides got away...3rd gear was too tall for last turn in hindsight and never was comfortable...disappointing drive, even with the freezes...made quite a few awkward passes or attempts as well...

Hopefully these freezes aren't the new trend, because I'm already sickening tired of all the problems I had with this newer system, dodgy mobo...didn't have hick-ups at Schottenring tho...

Good win Iestyn, well done Dean. Commiserations to the DNF's...not sure what happened to Tris late race...Axel blew up I think...tough break...

Yes my engine failed, had a damage of the former shunt...

Was a great race until then ::)

Sorry about that guys :-[. I entered the 90 too wide thinking about leaving space inside and then looped it trying to hold on too slowly. Greg said my race yesterday was patient and smart, this one was more #RustyIesty (seeing Paul's privs post ;)).

Axel got a great start from 3rd, so I followed Rob thinking we could start pulling clear over time. Lap 2 and that plan flew out of the window, with the draft I passed and tried to pull us clear from the front, with bad results. Got going again quickly, but Rob had spun behind me (bump from Axel? Ray out avoiding? All too close to do anything.. not a great moment caused by me), so I waited for Rob and we set off from last to catch up the pack.

I was content to just hold station behind Rob until we caught back up, after passing Dave, but his LF got hot and he let me through at the Loop, so I pulled us up to Tim (Clive went off behind me approaching big bend), and eventually Axel/Tris/Dean. Axel's engine blew agonisingly short of half distance, and Rob kept passing cars a lap after me, but once on my tail for the lead he also went off under braking at Big Bend (draft effect on braking point?), after quite a battle with Tris.

At that point I pushed for home to get clear of Tris, although Rob came back through for 2nd and Tris went out late on. Wasn't sure if I had cost Dave a position by lapping him after Tris' exit but I didn't! I wanted to draft him for a fast lap/new PB, but caught him before the 90 instead of on a straight, so Rob got that with impressive one lap pace in Q and R. I did a race run late in Q to work out race temps, during which time Rob pipped me for pole, but it was worth it as I finalised Lotus tyre temps for the race at 21 left, 22 right, -3psi! for the LF tyre from Cloyd's Q set.

PS. Unlucky Doni, we needed you out there tonight.. but always nice to visit McD's with the family :P

I think I put a wheel in the dirt/grass, and also braked too hard/late having overspeed...was overdriving and the constant hick-ups didn't help...no worries about the spin, just racing. You didn't have to wait for me. Tristan again had a too short 5th gear I think, judging his topspeed.

My frustration was more the constant little freezes I had...it distracted me, and therefore also made many little mistakes, causing me to overdrive making the problems worse...when I finally made it back to the front, and made that mistake before the Big Bend, the steam came out of my ears...ofcourse was lucky the car was still OK to drive...replay shows fine and smooth...

Also still have to solve the cracking sound problem, also distracts me...

Mediocre for me, the Honda felt nice but seemed very slow...

Rob - Have you checked your Vsync settings for the 65 mod? Getting them wrond can cause mini-stutters like you describe

Ah yes, we both have the same card now.. I turn off F5 and F6 which can be the main cause of mini-stutters when it's in conflict with the red text or something to do with the track (amount of objects?). This is on OGLv2. Should we be running V-sync? I'm clueless on it but don't run it after hearing about tearing and input lag on iRacing (and I might have the tearing the wrong way around). I felt responsible for that mess which put you last so I had to wait!

PS. Tim, what happened to your old card in the end? Find a loving home?

Edit: No wonder I drive so bad when I'm not getting a full 60 fps then :P

GPL with 60fps needs Vsync!

If you have other apps just make a hotkey in CCC to switch it on and off ;)

Still got it collecting dust Iestyn :)

If you run GPL at 60 FPS with V-sync turned off all sorts of wierd stuff happens!
Same occurs if running at 36FPS with it turned on though so it's always worth checking before each race  :)

Err.. should that be enabled within GEM,  or under the GPU control panel (nVidia here)  or both?
There's probably LOTS of articles around;  but is there a "definitive idiot's guide" ?   :)

Cheers,
Dave.

I have both Vsync enabled in CCC and Rasterizer...without it the images are distorted, distracting...

Right now I'm pretty sure the mini-freezes are a result of the cracking sound. Looking into it. Cheers. ;)

I have Vsync set as "application controlled" in CCC and checked in GEM. Make sure you have triple buffering enabled in CCC when you're using Vsync. If you're using Prib, do as Iestyn and I do and try using the F keys to turn off some of the displays. On some tracks, especially with the closed body cars, I'll only display the track position board to help me avoid collisions. Anti-Aliasing (set in CCC or NVidia) and Anisotrophic Filtering (set in GEM / rasteriser) have a huge effect on frame rate. The lower each are set the better the frame rate.

60 fps, use triple buffering and vsync. 36 fps, no triple buffering/no vsync.

Thanks buddy ;)

Have both Vsync and triple buffering on in CCC and  Rasterizer. I actually have FSAA to 4x in CCC and AF to 8x (both CCC and Rasterizer). In game the antialias in manadatory grey/unchecked. It's just at Schottenring (ofcourse no cars around) everything went smooth IIRC, but at 65 Glen I got these mini-freezes. I will lower FSAA and AF first now.

I'm suspecting the crackling sound has to do with it, but not sure. It's not a consistent problem so far, offline seems better, need more races to determine. I can get used to the little crackling, but not the mini-freezes. Normally, when things do not go right, or you suffer from bad luck in a race, most of the time the steam comes out of my ears, but then the adrenaline is mostly used in a positive way. This stutter thing is just plain depressing...

I recomment to test the new CCC 15.7, it seems to be a good one even for older GPU :)

For 60fps with OpenGL
I use the Vsync enabled in CCC and GEM+,
But I disable triple buffering in CCC and enable trilinear filtering in GEM+

AF and FSAA are set to overwrite and the values depend on the GPU
The AA mode is set to supersampling

In GEM I set "use zbuffer" - "zbuffer with grouping"
