Title: RRE Speilberg Gr5 TEST RACE - Jul 9
Post by: phspok on July 07, 2015, 08:11:12 PM +0100
Practice: 19:20 BST
Qual 2: 20:25 (20 mins)
Race: 20:45 ~ 30 Mins
Cars allowed: Group 5 Car set
Track: Red Bull Ring - Speilberg
Time of Day Setting: 13:00
Weather: Dry
Start: Standing

Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption:  OFF
Pit-stops: None required

Server: phspok1
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see
cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the
rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Race Room Experience from Steam, and have the Euro Track Pack
(4) Please exercise caution when pitting as some tracks have a speed limit.

(5) Please follow the SROUK guidelines for using kerbs etc. Please keep 2 wheels on the track surface (kerbs do not count as track surface)
Excessive cutting of corners will seen as cheating and the results may be altered to reflect this.

This is NOT a P&G event
This is a second test race for Race Room Experience.
It will use the Group 5 car set, and will run at Red Bull Ring - Speilberg.
The cut track rules have been set to "slow down" not the stop and go in the previous one.
Password will be the usual race password for P&G/GTL

This post is temporary to advertise the event, and will be deleted before Sunday.
There has been an update to the game and to the server. The server now exports results
so I wil try to get that sorted if I can.

make sure you have downloaded the update via steam before the race start

Thanks for the update warning  :thumbup1:

It's a 1.4Gb update too so not a 5 minute job.

Unfortunately the update seems to mess up graphics settings for some so might be worth jotting down your current ones before you update. Make sure you also have fullscreen checked as it unchecked mine. Good news is that performance and quality for me have improved.

Thanks again for putting this on Matt  :thumbup1:

Would have loved to join this testrace, my first impression of RRE was good, and I'm eager to try it out some more.

It's gonna have to wait untill I'm back in CPH.

Since yesterday's update I believe the server now writes a file that can be used for results. As usual I've no idea how you do this but maybe worth a look.

The Nissan GTR R32 has now been added to the touring classics pack  :)  I've not had a chance to test it yet but it seems now that these cars are now all competitive with the DTM '92 cars.

Looking forward to tonight's race. I'll probably be in the 935 which is literally a blast around here.

I have configured my ftp site to accept the results output temporarily, I have to disable anonymous external logins
to allow the game server to log in internally to the ftp server.
I have asked Dave about how we might do this properly using our normal servers.

The game exports as .xml or .json
I have no idea yet what I will do with the .xml when (and if) it lands on my ftp site, but it will be text so
will be human readable.

Not seen the Touring classics pack.. perhaps I have as I do have the Volvo.. he's a hoot to drive loved that one.

I like the Fabcar and the Corvette, they are difficult enough to drive here, the others except maybe the turbo
beemer need a sensitive right foot that I don't possess :o particularly at T1 where I either lock up in, or spin on exit

I am getting to really like this Sim, the sounds, and the way they twitch around is good in other comptempory sims
but this one just "feels" really good. The sensation of speed in that Fabcar with you sitting so low is grin inducing  ;D

I'd have given this a go if I had any idea what any of you is talking about. The world seems to have turned on its head whilst I was on holiday in Spain. With Clive now in Oz I have no body to interpret the forum speak.

Any chance some kind soul can post the link to the game, game patch, track and car set?

I have not been able to drive all of the cars in the '92 pack yet. I'll take on of the Nissan's tonight I think. Do you guys find the defaults setup to be pretty spot on or do you tweak? Like Matt I have had to adjust the steering rotation but that's pretty much it.

It's on Steam. Game is FREE and you get a couple of tracks and a car or two. You then BUY additional tracks/cars as and when required (or when on special offer).

Start here http://game.raceroom.com/

You need to download the free game from http://game.raceroom.com/ through Steam, if you don't already have Steam then it will install that, or you can do it yourself first.
Then you buy any cars or circuits that you want to use, If you buy everything it can get expensive
but I am hoping to get enough interest to run a series for the older cars. So we did the DTM 1992 class last week
and this week we are doing the Group5 from the early 80s at Osterreichring  now "Red Bull Speilberg"
The free game is many gig so will take a while to download.

My default setup for these cars is to set the front at max hard, and the rear to max soft
everything like that - roll bars/springs/dampers and I usually increase coast and reduce power as well.

Urrrrggghhh discoed after a few laps  :'( Hope we can do more of RR as it is so enjoyable when it goes well.....and currently the only sim on my pc after kicking AC into the long grass

You and Postal both discoed at the same time. Could be the new server code, or my BT infiniti, I was not at the same location tonight
as the server, so it had no other traffic. I am in Southport on dodgy Sky broadband over wifi, and it was ok during the race
I did get discoed when Fede left in practice, but the race was solid.
Next week I would like to run the Touring Classics. I probably should have picked an easier track for these overpowered brutes tonight
but if I can stay on anyone can  ::)

would have tried this tonight but I was out sadly, so still not even fired it up yet despite having it a week.

Was enjoying that but by race time I had tweaked my setup so much that I had created a monster that I couldn't keep on the track at corners. Should of sat on my hands and used my pre qualy setup which was sweet. I liked the track but I find these "modern" cars bit of a handfull. I'm sure with practise I'll get the hang of setting them up to suit me. I quit out as I was lapping on my own and kept spinning off. Would still like to try out more of these cars tho. Thanks for hosting Matt  :thumbup1:

Yup discoed after a lap or 6 i guess. Had to do several attempt to join the server to. Dunno if it was R3E itself.
Bought me the Chevy Monza with the Vette powerplant, cobbled up a setup only to find the update messed up all the wheel settings. So i was still trying to adjust the settings when i found myself on the grid.

First turn and about every one outbraked themselves and i got a little stuck behind Simon. Like Tony said, these cars are quite a handfull. But that's how it should be. Last weeks DTM cars where pretty tame compared to these! ;D
After a couple of laps i found Tony on the exit of the penultimate turn and all i could do was hammer the brakes. Sorry to spin you around Tony. I was having fun until the disco.
So can we get another outing with these cars please?

@GT, why aren't you AC-ing anymore then? After my disco i fired up AC to practice for the '90 DTM race at NoGrip this sunday and i was having a blast. Got my wheel setup now and i was getting a real good feeling from the car. Haven't done any online racing with that game, but it cant be that bad?!

Next week I am hoping to run a race using the "Touring Classics" pack, I have set the server up with those cars and Hockenheim
I am sticking to the Europack tracks at the moment, because most people seem to have that. I can do other tracks as well
if people want a particular one, and everyone has it.

I had a go on line with AC this week, and it's good, though I was very slow. It is a lot more "finished" than this, and has more options.
There is something about this one that I just like that bit more. I tend to use cockpit view, and in AC when the back
slides it feels like it's not rotating round the front wheel but a few feet behind. Doesn't feel quite "natural" to me
No slagging off Sims here please, or posts will be deleted.

I will try to create a Race forum for this whether it has staying power or not in the next few days.
As there seems to be some interest so far, and I rather like this sim, I will run a few events, and if a proper results export
can be sorted and maybe run it from our "proper" server I would like to run a short season using the older car sets.

In the meantime, if interested please could you get either the Touring Classics pack or buy one of the cars in it
and get some practice in on the server.
Good Racing
Matt.

I don't think AC is that bad but I do prefer RR. I was genuinely surprised how good it drove out of the box and after a couple of weeks of settling in tweaking the ffb and other settings it just ticks all the boxes for me now...great feel, great visuals, great audio, great car sets, great tracks and more on the way. I just feel that AC is bogged down at the moment with unforeseen problems and diversions (consoles) and garages full of undriven road cars. Just my opinion  :)

whats got into you man? lost the plot ?  :-\

Quite possibly

Title: Re: RRE Speilberg Gr5 TEST RACE - Jul 9

I tried a few tracks for these Touring Classics, and as they are pretty tame compared to the Group 5 nutter cars
I wanted a track that was not a power one. Brands in this is just the Indy one, which I always find rather boring.
These cars at Sachsenring are quite challenging. I left it at Hock, but I am happy to change it.
With the low numbers at the moment a short track for these slower cars would probably be a good idea?
Anyone object if we run at Brands Indy this Thursday?

Was the Zakspeed Capri that finished third in this race an AI car? The Results file has <Username i:nil="true"/> for that car which looks decidedly odd!

I'm waiting for the Touring Classics to be discounted so don't have those yet. Any chance we could change to the '92 DTM cars for this week if everyone has those?

Yeah, but neither the selected time limit nor the actual winner's total time are available in the export.

The results look great considering the limited info in the files.  8)
I "think" the Capri might have been Simon Loynes?
