Title: UKGPL Season 28 (2015) Privateers Trophy (67) - Interlagos - Jul 19
Post by: Robert Fleurke on July 14, 2015, 02:15:27 PM +0100
Season 28 Privateers Trophy - Round 10 - Interlagos

For the final round the Privateers head to São Paulo, Brazil, to drive on the fantastic historic Interlagos 1973 circuit. A left handed historic track with a variety of tight and fast corners. It is a championship decider, so good luck to Dave Rainier and Axel Cookie!

The traditional name of the circuit (literally, "between lakes") comes from its location on the neighborhood of Interlagos, a region between two large artificial lakes, Guarapiranga and Billings, which were built in the early 20th century to supply the city with water and electric power. It was renamed in 1985 from "Autódromo de Interlagos" to "Autódromo José Carlos Pace" to honor the Brazilian Formula One driver José Carlos Pace, who died in a plane crash in 1977.

Formula One started racing there in 1972, the first year being a non-championship race, won by Argentinean Carlos Reutemann. The first World Championship Brazilian Grand Prix was held at Interlagos in 1973, the race won by defending Formula One World Champion and São Paulo local Emerson Fittipaldi. Fittipaldi won the race again the following year in bad weather and Brazilian driver José Carlos Pace won his only race at Interlagos in 1975.

Due to safety concerns with the 4.9 mile circuit, including the bumpy track surface and the inadequate barriers, deep ditches, and embankments, the last Formula One race held on the original Interlagos was in 1980.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=476&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for Lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Ferradura on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=476&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Thanks both - yes it defaults to #GPL when I go in.  But I can't successfully get #UKGPL added.  I do add channel, including the password, but when I click on #ukgpl, nothing happens.  I've deleted and re-added a number of times, but just can't get it to work.

#UKGPL no PW is used!

Be warned that the pit exit feeds directly onto the racing line of turn 1. If you have to stop-go, pay heed!

What makes it even stranger is that when I was helping him add the channel, I could see "[Ronnie] joined the chat" in the ukgpl room etc. but he still couldn't see the channel! I didn't say there was a password either.. Once you joined the race, I stopped looking at chat, only after the start did I see that you didn't see the password from the race thread and posted as such in it, using the practice one instead.

Anyway, hope this gets sorted tonight.. Cookie, I guess your solution puts the room in the ini with auto-startup alongside igor?

I am gutted after being called away from the computer for a couple minutes, and GPL retires me from the race. I had hoped that the game would have given me more time.  Positively great fun while it lasted. I love driving the 67 F1's around this track.

Next time, I'll see if my wife can drive slowly along pit lane for me if I have to step away from the computer.

*I returned to computer to watch a little of the on track action. I saw some incredibly close (perhaps too close) racing between the two championship leaders on lap 15 and 16. Nice battle, I didn't want for it to end.

My qualifying lap of 2:57.xx was a PB. For the race I tried to simply stay out of trouble, knowing that most of the field were faster.  I largely kept my nose clean, but I must apologise to the Cooper (?) who tried to undertake me at the tightest corner - I really didn't think that was an overtaking spot, so sorry I chopped in front of you.  I finished 6th on my return. :)

Happy to see you could race RN, and no problem here.  ;) After 3 laps I realized I could not catch the championship leaders, so good to get some close racing.  At big races, chat is only for emergency - a small emergency allows a small chat.

Thought each driver  has to deduct  2 lowest scores  ?

If so that makes Axel champ unless I'm missing something here  ::)

In either case congrats to the Champ  :thumbup2:

Thought each driver  has to deduct  2 lowest scores  ?

Bernie - ok, so all pre-moderation of course;  but looks as though Axel had 2x non-scoring rounds;  so nothing to drop.
Dave had 1x non-scoring round,   but does drop his RELATIVELY  pathetic 8th place at Silverstone :)
note:  I say relatively; as all the other scores were wins/podium-finishes!

Congrats that man!
Although from the start of the season;  it was becoming clear that Dave & Axel would be fighting it out for the championship. Rocket pace!

Cheers,
Dave.

Congratulations to David & Cookie on a closely contested championship. It's been interesting competing against you guys on the tracks where you were taking to slower cars, last night wasn't one of those evenings.
Sorry to Martin for the contact about half way through. There was a close midfield battle with you, Mike & Ronnie. I suspect there was some tangle between you & Ronnie & you went very wide through one of the slow corners. Unfortunately the door was closing as I took a line up the inside.
Good to see a new face on the grid & looking forward to racing with Ronnie next season.
Well done To Dave C, just edged me out on 3rd place in the championship.

Scoring Scheme
Must complete 50% of largest number of laps (rounded up) complete to score
Best 8 scores count
Points: 50, 43, 37, 32, 28, 25, 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1
Each driver gets 10 tokens for each race that they start.
For a driver's first race, they get 5 extra tokens, or double that if the event is in the first half of the season.
Any driver who spends more than their available tokens is disqualified from that race.

Please explain , according to the rules above

best 8 of 10 scores to count
So :-
David drops lowest score of 21 points leaves him with(366 - 21 ) = 345
Axel has only 8 finishes so no points to drop from his final score =  352

Scratches head !
scratches head

Well, well… as former founder and number one driver of Team Superswede, it was all about being an individual.  Oh, and booze and girls, too.  I was looking at my options next season, and was planning to found Oily Rag Racing Team.  However, I could be tempted to join the Auld Enemy.  What are you offering me? :P

Stop scratching - you'll make it worse!

The 366 comes from 387 - 21   :)
The table is magically updated.   I bet it's not completely automatic,  but the greyed out 21 value shows it's not being used to make the adjusted total.

Oh, I see what's going on here - Soggies trying to team up with the Anti-pasties eh?  :)

Cheers,
Dave.

Absolutely sod all except the absolute pleasure of racing for nothing alongside myself & Mike , two decenter chaps you could never hope to meet , of coarse we do have lots of pedigree and we do not accept anyone on a whim , why we have thousands begging to join us every season and have to say no because they don't match our level of ambition . Even as I speak the phone is ringing,  unfortunately I can't pick it up as its way too hot to handle  :)

Bernie look at the table ;)

We both have 4 wins and 3x2nd = 7
but David has a 3rd and I have a 7th counting...

Maybe I should have taken a Lotus too, to not be such a sitting duck on the straights  ;D

Yup David was eating you on the straights , well done anyway chap you gave it your best shot and that's all that you can do on the day .

It was a very close run thing and a pity you came out 2nd in the fight under the circumstances , would have been great to see it go to all the way to the flag although I think David would have been there anyway if it came to a drag race from the last corner

I never could make sense of the scoring

Sorry Bernie ! It seems you really wanted to see Axel become champion ;)

...and you're right :
It is not a matter of wrong modesty, but it seems clear, for me too, Axel was the best this season.
He was driving Honda all the races except this last one but he was always quicker than me.
Even on last round in Interlagos, he was driving the Brabham and I had the Lotus ...but I couldn't follow him.
I was very lucky and I couldn't see my eyes when I was close to him on begin of lap 15 ... his Repco had a big problem and he had to shift-R + stop and go !

Without this problem, Axel should have win and I would have finished 2nd ...in this situation, we would have the same total of points 359 (it would have been a funny final result) but Axel would have won the championship (5 wins against 3 for me) ... less funny for me.

I thought I had lost the championship when I had an accident with Michael and scored no point in Tripoli but the new world races were all for me : I won in Stardust, Willow Spring, Mexico and Interlagos.

I hope season29 (I will race with Works) will be so exciting !

We do struggle with grid sizes in the Privateers so I don't have a problem if some of the guys who could run in the Works want to drive Privateers next season. With the right car & tracks the other drivers have been able to compete with Dave R & Cookie. If they take the fast cars its no contest. I appreciated that Cookie took the Honda for most races. Overall have enjoyed this season.

Wasn't really concerned who was the champion David , I just did not understand the results .

You two had a terrific season , I always admired the way you race hard but fair and also would have no objections if you decide to do the series next season, as long as you don't mind my mobile chicane being in the way .

for the record , I was 67 champion one season long ago and never won a single race . another year it was between myself and Phil Thornton , I won by default because Phil couldn't make the final race,  otherwise it would have been Phil's name on the trophy  . A bitter pill for Phil to swallow , I'm sure he still remembers well .

Nowadays my biggest battle comes with old age  :)

I was indeed totally aghast, by what I saw at Interlagos.  Times change and around here - they get lower!  I seemed to have emerged in a state of limbo, despite bending over backwards to make progress up the grid.  It was obvious, I'd need to raise the bar for the race. ::)

A mid-grid spot found me suddenly pensive.  A mosquito flew past and no airshow had been announced.  I'd done a search after closing the window, but the cockpit had no roof, and I hadn't the time to go on a wild Goose chase!

With terror control set to maximum, I applied my courage to the track, climbed immediately towards the poleman, and settled into 3rd.

For 5 laps I easily fended off the opposition, but fell suddenly under attack, with only the car repellent to hand.  My nose had been mistaken for a landing ramp, and only by instinct and lightning fast reflexes, I saved the day.  I lashed out, and splashed out, the glass of water standing on my computer stand!  It's fortunate only my car drinks petrol, as gravity and liquids flow downwards.  With desktop and assorted electrics briefly underwater, I applied my courage to my left leg, which became rapidly cold and wet.  >:(

The racing continued, whilst this courageous fighter, fought the novelty, caused by the sensation of a damp left half of the track. Grumble!  Need I mention that, owing to this extra curricular activity, my position started to suffer.  I felt lucky to have survived to a 5th.  Except . .  the race had now grown 2 laps longer than expected, and I'd forgotten to check, which seemed most peculiar.  Rather like the sensation granted my left leg, by a mosquito which still lurks.

So with a lap and a half to survive, my insectified Coop, was out of fuel, while a little water remained.  I decided not to bail out, and finished last!  Grumble.

Checked the replay.  Mine was the blue Cooper, numbered 13. "Grumble . . . grumble!".  :taz:

Well Iv'e heard the lot now , heard some crappy excuses for bad driving, but that about beats all comers   :o

Got to say it makes a change from the usual " my pedals went loose " or " my gear lever fell off " or that other gem " I had the default set up loaded "

Nice story anyway & 10/10 for poetic licence  ;D

Congrats DaveR, Axel, and DaveC on your seasons! Nice job Billy keeping DaveC busy to the end.

I hope season29 (I will race with Works) will be so exciting !

You may want to do like Axel has done. His Works season was horrible. I didn't realize how bad it was until he told me after the season. It looks like Axel had a lot more fun this Privateer season than he did the previous Works season.

I hope to see you in the next Friday season. I intend to handicap myself much more than was required this season. You and Walter were faster at times with the previous season's handicaps.

Final mod report published. Thanks to all drivers for an exciting championship, in particular Privateers Champion David Rainier, Axel Cookie; and Dave Curtis! :)

Penalty person here admitting my mistake.  We restarted in close formation, so I slowed to allow my victim past.  I then received no Incident report notice.  Outside the red zone, I expect to see one.  A championship contender would have reason to be unhappy at this.

Sorry for that Martin. Ronnie (Nilsson) -who is new to reporting- didn't include who was involved when reporting. I should have notified you. Thanks for understanding.

Yes, sorry, the system's all a bit new to me.  I think if I just start at the back of the grid, it would be easier!  ;D
