Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see
cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the
rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Race Room Racing Experience from Steam, and have the Euro and American Track Packs for this series (And maybe another
non pack track occasionally)
(4) Please exercise caution when pitting as some tracks have a speed limit.

(5) Please follow the SROUK guidelines for using kerbs etc. Please keep 2 wheels on the track surface (kerbs do not count as track surface)
Excessive cutting of corners will seen as cheating and the results may be altered to reflect this.

Thought I'd start this discussion off early

The Touring Classics are the worst class in RR at present with a ridiculously quick Volvo, a stunted Datsun and all balanced in the last physics update for the sake of fitting in conveniently with the pace of the DTM '92 class....all my opinion of course.

That said, driving the TC M3 is still believable but is now so similar to the DTM '92 M3 they might as well be the same car.

I know we're trying things out and seeing what's what in this series but for future it might be worth considering lumping the TC and DTM classes together  :-\

I said much the same in a previous thread.
For me, I like a few car classes so I can create events with a varying flavour.
It's probably just my P&G tradition, but I like 4 things as that fits conveniently into a month.
I did a pick up race where they had allowed DTM92 and Tourers, and it worked well
so I'm not opposed to that, just that ideally I want to keep 4 different groupings.
I tried the Audi single car class and it was to me undrivable, I had hoped to create a series
with the Procar and the Audi, but so far the Audi is horrible. If some brave soul would like
to do some testing and finds they are a similar pace, then I could add that to the spec race
part of these series. Bearing in mind that my interest is for Historics rather than the 2013-15
and modern sports car sets is there anything else that might be another grouping?
The Hillclimb cars perhaps?

M1 Procar could be a group on it's own. Only one make but it raced that way originally IRL. Fun to drive and cheap too, with a few skins in the Hillclimb pack. Or the M1 Procar pack might be discounted tomorrow if you want all the skins.

Very happy to stick to the historics here for Thursdays although I think RR easily has the best potential for modern GT/sportscar racing in any current sim

The Audi is an odd one but I believe there are plans to add to the GTO class sometime in the future.

I've only briefly tried the modern hillclimb cars as they are very unfamiliar territory for me and so haven't attracted my interest.

Hang on, have they nobbled the DTM '92s just so they fit together with the Touring Classics? That's crazy..

I've only driven the Volvo and the BMW 635 but enjoyed them both very much, though I wasn't aware the Volvo is so much quicker than the rest, or that they match the DTM cars. A shame if we can't run the Touring Classics as they are..

I think I would like to see more single spec racing. So If Matt held an event which had just the Classic Volvo etc available that would be fine by me.

Title: Re: RRE Race Room Historics - Laguna Seca - Aug 20
Post by: phspok on August 13, 2015, 12:53:24 PM +0100
The Volvo was quicker when we tested that group, but then GT tends to be quicker than most, so may not be the car...  ::)
For me the Tourers are very similar pace. And do match the DTM92. Before the Tourers were changed they
were a bit sloppy handling, only the Volvo was nice to drive for me. now they are more similar, though the
skyline is still a bit sloppy, but I thought it was the quickest if you can get the most from it. At Brands
I got my best times in it.

I don't feel that the DTM92s have been nobbled, more the Tourers have been sharpened up.

As there are only a limited number of tracks and cars, some more one make events are likely to happen.
as always, these series will develop as enough people ask for stuff

It's the other way round. Before the physics update the Volvo, the M3 and the 635 in the Touring Classics pack were much slower than they are now and had a real GTL type charm to them. The problem came when the Nissan was added and was much quicker than the other TC cars (as was the case in real life) and maybe even quicker than the DTM '92 cars. So RR decided to nobble down the Nissan and boost up the Volvo, M3 and 635 so that they could be run with the DTM '92 cars  :hang:

There are lots of variations of track layout in RR and some of the shorter versions of classic tracks (Hockenheim, Monza Jr)would have been great fun in the old version of the Touring Classics cars.

With two track packs and the freebies you have 35 tracks to choose from. That's five, seven race series without needing to repeat any tracks. Happy days  :jumpjoy:

EDIT: Correction. That's not including the freebies! so add a further nine tracks.

Tony San speak truth, however I have always hated the short versions of the famous tracks
Monza Junior and Nurby sprint track are naff to me. Not that we can't run them, it's just I
tend to default away from those things.

The Gr5 at Monza GP sounds like a suitable combo perhaps?

i hope for much drivers,

this good racegame only need more drivers online,

i am new in touring cars, i did quick test 3 cars, the volvo was ok, nothing special, the nissan i did not like the wrong wheel on right side of car,
so my car will be the bmw, as i do like the sound and how the car do feel, like i can image a racecar (and i saw tudor m. - gold top??, leaderboard lap, haha)
think i did with all cars 1.29 for quick test (or 1.28? already, did not watched exactly, only quick 5-6 laps with each car)

the cars are more friendly to drive then the group 5 cars was last week, damn this was hard, think more relax race,

see you all people on thursday (hope much people ;))

I think RR is still a bit low profile compared with other sims but I'm sure that will change as drivers try it and realise what it offers. I've bumped up the promotional threads on the Sector3 forum and at NG. Now that the holiday season is coming to an end I hope we gather a few more regulars too.

I've spent some time in all 4 cars now and they all have their strenths/weaknesses. The Nissan has a big top speed advantage but struggles with understeer at tight circuits. The default setup doesn't help and a few quick tweaks had it handling much better. The big bimmer is a bit soft but still a nice drive with a decent top speed whereas the M3 makes up for a lower top speed by being much more nimble in the corners.

Yes, Leaderboard is good fun, I noticed Anty is up there too  :thumbup1:

Hey Gents

I have been so busy at work, I really have had little practice, I did 10 laps in the 635 and 10 in the M3, I am hard up to see which one I would choose, I think I did 4 laps in the leaderboard to check how the car will feel in qualifying, I like the 635, but the M is better through the cork screw,

See you tomorrow Gents

You must be on track and not in garage to chat and please no chat in quali or race  ;)

I assume when the cog wheel in the data on screen goes Red with ! it means that the gear box is knackered - that's when the odd gear changes occur.

Too use to GTL with full throttle changes up and braking and changing down often over revving in process.

Is this my problem and is there anything if the setups to help me stop this?  In race tried to watch tacho and lift off on  upward changes and blip throttle on down changes? That led to too many offs and over revving trying to drive out of kitty litter.

Will look at setups when I finish this post.

Just use auto clutch Bill.

Not that I should be giving advice after that. I stood up, closed my curtains, switched the lamp on. Merrily watching the grid walk, I sat down in a hurry. It seemed reasonable, as we left for the start. Then I just got farther and farther from the pedals, tried to correct things n binned it into the pitwall... lol. I'm a... bottom?...

Like Eck said, auto gears and watch the gear indicator go red

No need to use auto gears, just auto clutch - manual clutch is poorly implemented at the moment and it's impossible to use it without wrecking the gearbox, no matter how careful you are.

Race was a bit rubbish for me - the car felt very different to the practice laps I did yesterday, maybe down to track temperature? Anyway, wasn't getting close to my times and braking points were all wrong. No matter, race was going ok and fun chasing GT. Until suddenly I had no drive coming out of the corkscrew - apologies to whoever was behind me as they were unsighted and slammed into me, wrecking both our races. No clue what was going on at the time but it happened again and of course it must have been a slow down penalty. Bugger.

Congrats podium.

Thanks Anty and Frex, I will fiddle with the results file and sort it out.
It lost Frex then this time. It seems to get confused with someone at each event.
it puts a "null" in for a driver in the .xml export twice, once for qual and once for the race
so is a bit messy. Once I have updated the SROUK database with which forum name relates to
which driving name our side of it then gives the right person the points.

I am quite liking following someone who I can't quite catch, and seeing "(Name) received a slow down penalty"
makes the race that bit more interesting  ;D can be awkward though when someone suddenly slows unexpectedly
just in front  :o

What name did you race under Frex? (your real name I know) but for future reference I need to spell it accurately

Another very nice event and a few more drivers this week which is very welcome.

I always find Laguna a challenge as it's such a fine line between a fast lap and a visit to the gravel. Didn't quite get it altogether in quali and knew I wouldn't be able to match the pace of Anty and Reinhard in race so played safe to avoid any costly mistakes. Looked like a good battle up front for a while and towards the end I too was living in hope of seeing that "(Name) received a slow down penalty"

Also Matt, not sure if you are aware but unless I imagined it I think there was a third Skyline in the race apart from you and me.

hello,

i did make a picture (pressF12) (photo?) of the raceresults, it this do help for make result?

but i do not know how to upload pictures (photo), i never ever did this and i have no idea how this works.

and in results, it is a problem, as the race did end 30sec. after i did finish the race, so much drivers have same racetime, as everybody which finished 30sec. behind me have same time in raceresult.
so perhaps in future is this is possible in R3E game, set the time after the winner do finish the race, closer to time what a lap do need, something like 80 or 85sec. for laguna seca, that everybody can finish the race (but i do not know as this is possible to do????)

if needed i can write manuel on forum the raceresults

yesterday i was surprised how quick i suddently was, no idea why, realy strange this was, nearly each lap in practise on server my laptimes get faster and faster, realy happy i was,
but in start i was AGAIN slow, i have no idea how i should setup my clutch, as there are any things i do not understand, with "high deadzone" and "low deadzone" and "clutch bite" (note...i do not know exactly english name for the clutch settings, only thinking),
anty did overtake me and fly away in start from me and other car too, probably a nissan i think.

the bmw was extrem great fun to drive, perhaps my favourite historic car actual (but i like nearly all old cars in this game)

servus

Hmm , in the server settings there is a race duration setting. never really understood it. but, perhaps if I set it to 35 mins
it will allow everyone to complete the race? I will try that in future.
I can edit the file ok now Reinhard, now that I know who was lost in the export.

Nightmare race for me. I just can't get through turn 6 onto the Rahal straight with any kind of consistency. I think I binned it there 5 times in the race :(

The slow down penalties for cutting the corkscrew were a pain too. Once you commit to a line you can't really do anything if the car in front is unable to accelerate away because of a penalty. I gave that blue Nissan a right old whack, sorry fella :)

Roll on Nurburgring - a proper track with a proper car :)

No worries, there wasn't anything you could have done there.

Cut tracks are a pain, but I believe the slow down method is less messy than the stop and go.
There were a couple of people who might have joined us if they could, so early days yet  ;)
Was not sure of the tyres Tony, I was at work. Thanks for sorting that.

Next week I am in Italy, and will not be able to race now for the next 3 weeks  :(
I will make sure the server is running the right track/cars etc before I go, but if the server gets stopped next week
for the other races, then please can someone check it's running and start it if required?
Also, as the session clock starts when the first person connects and resets when the only person on reconnects
please can someone connect to the server at the start of prac, and drop and reconnect if the clock needs to be
reset to 30 mins.

Mucho grassy ass, and happy racing
Matt
