Cars allowed: Group 5
Track: Monza GP

Championship Standings (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=501&theme=1)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see
cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the
rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Race Room Racing Experience from Steam, and have the Euro and American Track Packs for this series (And maybe another
non pack track occasionally)
(4) Please exercise caution when pitting as some tracks have a speed limit.

(5) Please follow the SROUK guidelines for using kerbs etc. Please keep 2 wheels on the track surface (kerbs do not count as track surface)
Excessive cutting of corners will seen as cheating and the results may be altered to reflect this.

Man of your standing... it's hardly going to make you sell your house if you don't get yer money's worth from it  ::)
I have been carefully avoiding "My fave sim is better than your fave sim" scenarios, I just do this because I like the racing
it produces  :thumbup1: I am not too bothered if the graphics are not the dog's spheroids compared to others.
Apart from the stupid 1st chicane, these beasties run really well here. I tried them at Bathurst, but they were just
too much masochism for chap of my advanced years  ;D so I went for the DTM92 cars there. which I believe will
be some good close racing.

Spending money has never been one of my problems  ;D

But it's got to be worth the pennies in terms of accuracy/credibility for me when it comes to 'sim' racing, always has been. And that's why I'm just dipping my toes in for now as I'm not convinced by RR 'yet'. Will be more than happy if it turns out grand  :)
Not too happy with their poor looking 935, have they looked at photos of a real one? Theirs looks like it stars in 'Cars' the Disney film  :P

Maybe a licence thing, but they have the "fabcar 935" which to me looks more or less right in the game:

Think I would have preferred Bathurst to Monza as chicanes really aren't my strong point.

Having said that I will never moan at the opportunity to drive the totally fabalicious Fabcar which has to be the most fabtastic car in any sim to date (even if like MJ I first thought it was a work of fiction)

Making it safely through the chicanes will be a miracle in itself  ;D

Comming out Curva Parabolica in these beasts is a true thriller   :scared: , but it's fun when you get it right.

coo, these are proper beasts  ;D  Point and squirt cars, don't do tight corners and braking very well but masters of the brute torque and bhp!

I bought the euro trackpack and the Grp5 pack  :)  Ran a few laps at Monza, cars look and sound amazing  8) only ran about 10 laps to get a feel and using stock setup, did a few 1:54's, which is a little slow but early days. If you try any late braking heroics you don't make the turn!  its all about steady and smooth inputs with these brutes.

I will be racing the iconic 935 Valiant car  :punk:

Driving these cars is like riding a mustang on thin ice, and I'm considering naming my car 'Crazy Horse'  ;D

I managed to do a 1.48.800, but doing more than 2-3 laps without my Bavarian horse going astray, is probably beyond my skills.

But hopefully, I can manage to stay out of everybody's way

Doh not looking a great turnout at this rate. :( Hope some brave pilots are attending. Will there be a practise server beforehand? Having never driven a real 935 (no really  ;D ) I haven't got a clue how to set it up.

Tudor is our most experienced 935 pilot, he may be able to help. For any of these monsters I have to set the front full hard and the rear full soft
which is not realistic, but gives me a chance of finishing. I am expecting to be there, but I was dropped from the Monday's GTL race because
of the dodgy conn. BT say it's an exchange fault and are supposedly working on it. My home server is usually up for practicem and the main server
should be up as well.

Top tip for the 935, ask Anty 'cause he's getting it round here quicker than I can  ;)

I find I have to experiment with different diff preload settings to get me out of the slow corners and set suspension a bit stiffer than default to liven up the handling. I'm quicker in the 935 but Monza isn't very inspiring for it so I might try the chevy Greenwood which seems to get round quite nicely with default settings.

It seems that lately RL has the biggest impact on attendance so I wouldn't blame it on lack of enthusiasm for any sim. I'll post my usual reminders at NoGrip and Sector3.

very difficulty but fun car/track combination this is for me.

i did 1.49.low in offline (perhaps little faster is possible) and 1.47.low (i think) in leaderboard challenge.
to push push out of the middle fast corners is much action and fun, and hard to controll it is for me.

hope for many drivers tonights,
i will come with capri, no idea if this is a good car for this track or not, but i like the sound very much in this car.

I tried the Moby Dick Porsche, but in my opinon, it is by far the most nervous of them all, so I just gave up on it.
I worked a bit on the BMW setup to make the car easier for me to handle. If anybody wants a screendump of my settings , I can post it later today.

Hey Gents

What a race. Must be my best race ever. About 7 mins in as I came into ascari I hit the grass under braking, I went straight on, then I rejoined, but my tyres were dirty, as I hit the brakes into parabolic I went straight on into the kitty litter. That took me 20 seconds to get out of their. After that 2 or3 laps ittook me to get my tyres clean and up to temperature, then the long chase began. I caught Goldtop 6 min towards the end and tried to catch Mr Berger but only got 1.5 seconds behind him accross the line.

The car was setup perfect, my gears and brakes was 100%

I raced a few years with my PS3, but this must be one of the finest for me

Thank you Guys
Ant

These cars are just splendid  8)  They look great and sound even better. Just loved hanging onto it as it tried to lose grip with the turbo power coming out of Parabolica! also looked fab watching others stepping out ahead too.  My only real gripe was the carp braking which pitched me off about 5 times, even when doing exact same speed and same braking point as umpteen laps before  ::) it seemed totally random and was annoying.

Didn't expect much in terms of pace as first time ive used them and didn't get to do any pre evening practise. As usual with sims, the default setups are shockingly bad (why do they do that?!) and as I spent more time tweaking I took seconds off my laptimes. However in the race I still ended up with way too long a 1st and 2nd gears so the car was really slow and clumsy in the chicanes.  :(

I need to do some proper practise sessions in these and get to grips with all the setup options. I couldn't tell if I was adding/removing brake bias, gear choices were guesswork and still don't know what preload does to the car

Anyway had some enjoyable chases with Weiss' BMW, great fun, can only imagine what a fuller grid of these babies would look like at somewhere like Le Mans or Spa  :tt1: Will get a better hang of them the more we use them.  :)
Good fun

Enjoyed muscling the vette round and had some good fun trying to chase down Reinhard for a few laps.

Anty, you were constantly flickering in and out really badly tonight. Not sure if it was my end or yours or maybe the server or game related but I'll check my replay later and see if it shows up there too. I had to slow to let you past at the second chicane because it would have been to dangerous to contest the place.....noticed it in quali too. Very strange  ???

I just assumed, that the 3 of you had left, because of the poor turnout , and then I left to.

Nah, the server worked fine, I was on it along with 3 other racers, and I wasn't booted or anything like that. I was away for say 10 minutes, and when i returned, I was the only one there!

Stig. It is possible that GT reset the server while you were "away" it is not (yet?) possible to move the sessions on from within
the game, so someone, usually me, gets everyone to log off the server at 19:45 then log back on again to make the clock
start again with 30mins practice time. day 5 and stil no internet in Southport house. Sky/bt  :fencing: pain in the bum
Have relocated to the hills so have net again now.

Welcome to zig, and please could update your profile with your country when you get a minute, so you get a nice flag
next to your name in the results  :thumbup1:

Stig, there were already drivers in game when I arrived which would have meant the quali and race would have started way too early had we not all left to force a restart.

Maybe worth highlighting this in future race announcements so that everyone knows the procedure.

Title: Re: RRE Season 2 Race Room Historics - Monza - Oct 8
Post by: phspok on October 10, 2015, 09:14:26 PM +0100
I should probably just reset the server at 19:45 anyway. trouble is you can't see or chat to anyone already joined
you have to reset the server blind, and it doesn't start the clock until someone logs in, so if no one joined for 15 mins the race would be 15 mins late.
I will add it to the announcement for future events.
