Track: Fuji Motor Speedway 1982 Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg81636#post_fuji_vlm)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Mondays
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Drivers are advised to install the advanced setup mod. This will enable wing angle to be modified. Get the mod here http://www.mediafire.com/download/3hufvlu3k93egh3/Advanced_Setup.zip

Install three files (Game.dic, GTLOptions1.gtl and gtlui.mnu) into your folder called UIdata.

The advanced setup add-on is recommended as you can then alter the wing setting.

I will provide a link to a download soon(ish).

Hope to race these two holiday events, depends on how many and when the family is here.  Took the cars out for a drive for the first time.  Fun drives that's for sure.  Is their a toggle to adjust the rear wing angle, or is it stationary?  Could use some more rear downforce it seems to me over the rough areas of the track in the cross-overs. How about rear ride height, would that change anything? But if not, guess that's the way it is for everyone. Did the Google check thing and didn't find anything......

Thanks
Bob M.

Also Merry Christmas to all

Bob, there is something called Advanced Setup which adds a second page of setup options to GTL. Pretty sure one of the extra options is wing adjustment. I'm sure it's been mentioned on this site somewhere? Let me go have a quick look for it.

EDIT: Discussed here https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12824.msg230181#msg230181. I'll try to find a download now.

EDIT: Here's a download http://www.mediafire.com/download/3hufvlu3k93egh3/Advanced_Setup.zip Follow the instructions in the thread.

OH__OH:  Hope I didn't open a can of worms and make the setups too complicated.  Maybe too much information or adjustments for this old guy to comprehend.  Will give it a try and try not too mess the car up too bad.  Always go back to what I'm using now right if I save it?

Thanks

So before I botch this up, I just copy all the files to the UIData folder and let it overwrite?  Will wait for conformation,  hate to screw up the works!!!  Probably should back up my UIData file now just for safety sake, Yes?

Thanks Bob M.

EDit:  This will not cause a mismatch with others online if I decide I don't like it and don't do it, is that right?

Copy these three files ONLY (Game.dic, GTLOptions1.gtl and gtlui.mnu) into your folder called UIData.

The download has a backup of your original files but if you want to go ahead.

No it won't cause a mismatch.

Really looking forward to next year's series with these cars  :jumpjoy:

Another new experience for me I think. I have no idea what an M1 Pro car is or even which way is forward!!??

Not downloaded or tried these beasts, or the circuit yet...another job for Sunday afternoon ???

As a newbie to these I will try and record my setup development "assuming that I can get the laptimes "somewhere in the zone". Perhaps it will help others see how at least one other driver stumbles through the process.

Can anyone offer a target laptime, just so that I can measure my progress?

Tony:
Thanks for the step by step guide for the advance setting options.  Works fine now with the right files installed....Have to spend some time with it to find out if it helps or is a handicap with my missing brain cells.......

EC:  My best time is 126.5 with full fuel and comfy set up (except over the bumps in the cross overs).  I'm sure their is more left with the advanced setup option as my tire pressures were out of wack from left to right sides....

Well, I'm sure it will be blitzed by the established drivers but I have 1:24.6 currently. Usually in the low 1:25's and I'm still trying to work out what I did differently for that one.  Having a lot of issues with the right hander after the long T2 over the 1st bumpy bit. Down hill and tightening, I'm very familiar with the bales there. I am going to try to make both the Christmas races but a lot depends on family commitments during the break.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas etc.

I did manage to find some time yesterday to try this car/track combination. Both are new to me so there was a a lot of learning to do. Priority was learning the track, but at the same time applying gentle tweaks to the setup as I found areas where the car was not going where, and how, I would like it to.
Gradually the two processes come together and once the track is committed to memory it is a question of finding faster lines and adapting the setup to help negotiate the corners.

This BMW procar is a bit modern for me, with so much grip it is not something that likes being thrown at a corner  ::) in a 4 wheel drift, so I suspect that I will be struggling in the race.

Anyway, as I promised I will upload the various setups that I evolved during yesterday's session to the Fuji online track list shortly. They should be listed as "Clive Procar 1, 2, 3 etc"  each an adaptation of the previous.
This is still very much Work in Progress and I have only used the Basic setup parameters, not even loaded the "Advanced options" as I don't feel that I am anywhere near close enough to a perfect setup to start such fine tuning.

I make no apologies for the fact that these setups are made to suit my personal driving style and they may not suit everyone ( or anyone!!), but maybe by driving each version and feeling the difference that various changes have made people might gain some insight into what affects the handling and how.

Clive, if you had the advanced setup loaded you could reduce the rear wing angle and perhaps this would allow less grip and more controlled drift?

Clive, if you had the advanced setup loaded you could reduce the rear wing angle and perhaps this would allow less grip and more controlled drift?

That might come in due course Tony  ;), but I was trying to keep it simple and concentrate on getting the suspension/diff to generate the grip. TBH I was having most trouble generating front end grip at the apexes, although I think it was probably my driving that was hitting the apexes approx 10% too fast!! I never have a problem getting the rear end to slide, I appear to have a right foot made from depleted Uranium.........does that make me an alien or a mutant???

Can someone check that my files are visible? everything syas that I have uploaded the setups to Fuji online, but ....well you all know my abilities with technology!!  ::)

[Can someone check that my files are visible? everything syas that I have uploaded the setups to Fuji online, but ....well you all know my abilities with technology!!  ::)

Yes I can see them, As you have suggested previously, a bit "pointy" I can't drive them at all although undoubtedly a lot faster them my creations I'm sure.

Continuing with my Stupid questions...

Cars allowed: BMW M1 Procar Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_bmw_m1_procar) Any version

Does this mean GTO and GR4 included  (Any version of BMW M1) or only Procar?

I think it's obvious but I do hope to make this and don't want to screw up.

Thanks in advance

John.

Couldn't make it either.  Took my daughter & family to the airport and we are having a good snow storm.  They had to de-ice the plane and were short of equipment so about an hour late for takeoff.  By that time the roads were bad and a 45minute drive took over 2 hrs.
Wanted to check out the  Procars.  Will have to watch the videos...

Somewhat frustrated to realise only at qual, that all versions of the M1 was allowed (this assuming the Procar one is the slowest of the bunch)  Had not noticed the 'All versions' next to Tony's link - or not made the connection, as car was named M1 Procar in the race announcement.  For once I didn't ask Tony about the versions, as it didn't even dawn on me (or is it the track versions I usually pester you with ?  ;))

Random grid gave me a lucky front row position.  Managed to squeeze into the lead at the first corners.  Didn't last long until 3 cars passed me, when I went a bit wide in a corner.  Some laps in 4th followed, but then within 2 corners, first one and then a second dust cloud, meant I was suddenly in 2nd!

Remained there for quite a few laps. The long straight didn't have any natural brake markers. The arrow/distance signs were too late, so I had picked a subtle blotch on the tarmac instead.  Very easy to miss, which I of course did eventually. Ran into the gravel and hit the wall.  My shadow some 3 secs behind; Clive made it past before I could rejoin.

Car was damaged after the impact; steering was lighter and it didn't track straight anymore.  As if this wasn't enough, any hopes of staying with Clive was quashed when I missed that braking point again.  No more damage, but lots of time lost.  In my own lonely bubble then.  Found out the steering damage combined with tyre wear above 7 was a poisonous cocktail.  Any attempt at shedding speed while not going straight, would have the rear kick out.  Spun and nearly spun several times because of this, but thankfully had enough gap to retain 3rd to the end.

Grats to Clive and Geoffers (I think).  Commiserations to Matt and anyone else who couldn't join.

Just realised that the F1 race is already on Wednesday.  Haven't even gotten the special install made, so probably will have to give it a miss  :'(   Am working this week, so only have tomorrow night to get everything running, car selected and practice done.  Don't think that's realistic with something this different.

Cheers,
Erling

Same as Erling thought only Procar, had some good racing chasing Tony he was way faster than me but had a nasty off on first corner about lap 20 which let me through.

Grats to Geoffers on win
Grats to Podium

Post by: EvilClive on December 29, 2015, 11:12:17 AM +0000
For me it was probably just as well that I did not realise that there was a choice of cars, I would have got even more confused!!

I had posted here about my attempts at a setup and in the few minutes before we actually got to race I applied a couple more tweaks that made the car slightly better for me.

I was not expecting to be competitive and the gremlins that resulted in a random grid hardly made the gulf between me and the front runners clear, although ATi and Geffers were looking very quick.

The race start was Ok and at least I survived the early laps on cold tyres without incident. Then I found myself tailing the leading bunch and slowly catching them as they argued over apex rights at some corners.
Tried to keep my car on track and without error rather than pushing 100% and it was keeping me in touch. Then a couple of cars tangled and I was up to 5th and just behind Erling.
That was too good a target to chase ::) I pushed as hard as I  dared and still was losing a few tenths each lap, but I was 3rd !! woohoo!! with a sizeable gap back to 4th.

If I could end up 3rd that would be a result in these cars, because I was definitely not comfortable with the way they behave, so I just kept my steady pace. Then I came across Erling re arranging the gravel sculpture at T1. I did wave as I passed, but I think he was too busy with his shovel to notice.

Once he was up and running I had a few seconds lead and concentrated on maintaining my pace so he would have to work to catch me. I guessed after a few laps that he had some minor probs because he was not closing as quickly as I expected him to, and then when he dropped another 10secs I was feeling much happier.....2nd place!! what a joke!!

Geoffers was out of sight in the lead, banging in 1:24 sec laps to my high 1:25's so there was no chance of catching him until......................there was car recovering from the grass at T4? I thought at first it was a backmarker. It got back onto the tarmac ahead of me and was obviously Geoffers because he immediately pulled away. But 1st place was now in sight..oooer!

I could not match his pace and was in danger of throwing away 2nd spot if I tried, but then he went wide again at the same corner  :D and I took the lead!!
My claim to fame is that I crossed the finish line in 1st place on 1 lap!! then Geoffers popped my Christmas balloon and recovered his position  :-\

I felt that a gentleman would have made a few more mistakes at T4 and allowed me a glorious win, but it was not to be and I rolled in a distant 2nd as I eased up over the last 2 laps, just to be sure .

I think reality has dawned this morning and that finish was a fluke. Several fast guys either did not get onto the server or had problems, so I am not as fast as it might appear.

I will post the latest setup version ( that I used in the race) on line sometime later for anyone to play with. It was good for low 1:25's if I hooked everything up and maybe a 1:24 at my limit, but it did deliver a steady race pace and preserved plenty of tyre wear right through to the finish.

Great fun  guys and thanks to Tony for organising.

I may be to blame for some drivers not being to enter the race tonight  :-[

We recently had a revised version of the cars. And although I noted this in the upcoming race series post's I omitted to mention it here  :nono:

Drivers who could not get in....please check if your version of the Procars is 1.7.

I have BMW M1 Procars 1.7, i got the problem with track version, my fault.

It is always best to download the tracks and cars we use from this site even if you already have them from elsewhere. Maybe create a new GTL install for all your Simracing.org.uk stuff?

Well, this one was as bad for me as The Linas race was good.

I actually had higher hopes than I did for the previous race and felt very fortunate when the random grid dropped me in 3rd or 4th.

I had cobbled together a set up which made these beasts feel more like the GPL cars I am familiar with and had seen 1:23's prior to the day.

The race was best forgotten, I actually found myself in 1st briefly and and was pleased  few laps later to still be in 2nd following Geoffers quite comfortably and had hoped we could slowly gap the rest of the field until on Lap 5 ambition far outweighed talent and a late braking point sent me wide into the hairpin letting Coyote, Clive and ATI through. I tried to settle myself down but the red mist had descended and trying to make up ground on lap 9 I got into a tank slapper crossing the bumps in the fast left hander and ploughed into the barriers. Race over.

Watched the race from the garage still kicking myself for being so reckless.

Congrats to the podium,

TTFN
John.
