Season 29 - CHAMPIONSHIP 69X : ROUND 1 - Spa (Papy track)


The first round for season 29 "69 Extra Trophy"  will be at the good old SPA in Belgium.


The race will be run under INT rules and you can do one Shift+r (only one) followed by a stop and go in the pits (Stop and Go must be taken within two laps of the incident unless on the last lap when a time penalty will be added).

We will use the patch : 60fpsV1 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/).

At this moment, there are more than 20 registered drivers for Extra Trophy with mod 69X ...

Priority is given to Full time drivers.

Is this rule clear for all reserve drivers (less than 75% of the races) ? if not, just tell me :

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.  
 

If the season keeps this popularity/gains more we might have to look at splitting the grids I guess?
This can only be good if we attract more new drivers  :)

Hey guys, I've discovered a problem with Spa67 and 69X. I can train absolutely fine (with a few little issues) but as soon as I select a single race, GPL won't come up with the race screen, but the training screen, and then issues the "cancelling the weekend" message. Any ideas? Everything is absolutely fine with 67s and Spa67.

Same issue for me.

Just noticed when I select race it defaults to single player mode but runs OK this is after installing the "standard textures pack " ( see below )

Not sure what advantage you would get from off line racing with 60 fps as the AI is crappy ?

[update]  Ah, this is a 69X mod problem.  I've found I can't get a Single Race for any track!  Any ideas?

I think it could possibly be something to do with the 69 mod using part of the track folders for building 69mod  cars ( skins & stuff ) , but then I could be completely wrong  ::)

Have you turned off the 60FPS settings? I don't think any mod will allow you to race offline at 60FPS

You can do races offline in every mod with 60fps, but you should use the 60fpsaiV1 patch!

Also, just in case anyone doesn't know about it (Daniel? I see a French error message in the registration thread), sometimes there is a replay issue, so putting [replay] in core.ini (near the top) down to say 128000 (128MB max replay size) can finally let the track load (specifically for the "could not initialise replay system" message).

As Bernie points out, best to try the low-res textures and lite.3do pack to clear other track load errors. Standard res is like a normal high-res or more  ;D, high res is like 4k Ultra HD at Spa67  :laugh:

69x and Spa '67 is effectively the modern benchmark test for GPL: biggest carset and biggest track - so once you can get that going OK, your PC should be fine for everything else.

Tim - lets see what the attendance looks like.. a few times last season, grid was full with cars unable to join ???. Maybe if every race has a start pile up, it would be a wise choice! Depends on what people think though, so far it looks like single grid, almost full will be the norm. If I fixed my install, I'd join in the carnage :D.

worryingly after installing lite pack + LR textures I got a screen freeze going down the Masta , hoping it was a one off glitch and not a more permanent feature  :-\

This track works with every mod except the 69x mod for me whatever I do. Screen freeze every time. Not hopeful of getting this one to work at the moment.

Not good. Ray. :-\  Spa67 and 69x make a tough combination, for our computers to handle.  If anyone knows of a light 69x carset, it's needed here.

About freeze try to take off the trees from grafic option.............I had a small improvement..........

I think it's better to race in the good old Spa (Papy track) ...

As much as I'd like to race on Spa67, if it's just going to cause issues and a ruined race I have no problems switching back to Papy Spa for the 69's.

Maybe you have not read all the hints how to get Spa67 working.


In core.ini you have to reduce

I hope this helps, as I had a test session with Andreas who had similar problems of freezes at a constant track section.

It's a shame to have to revert to the Papy version, but given the amount if issues, I think it is the right decision.  And it's only now that I realise just how different the original track is!  I still suck at it, though.  10 years ago, I just scraped into the black with a 3.19 in the Eagle.  Now with the Lotus 49 and no wing, I can't even break 3.30!  ::)  See you at the back of the grid!

It is now too riskly to use the new Spa with mod69X and with, probably, a full server with 18 or 19 racers.
For the first race of the season 69X, it seems better to me to use the original version.


By the way, the papy version is ugly compared to the new version ...but it is also more technical from my PoV :)

I can do Spa7 and 69x with my eco PC!
(Athlon II x4 640, 4GB RAM, ATI HD5670)

Try the other rasterizer Ray. For some reason my computer won't allow me to run one lap at bsarthe in the GTs with D3Dv2 but I was able to complete 4 out of 5 INT short races there using OGLv2. And everybody else, I think it's necessary to use 60fpsv1 if you want to run the GTs or 69xs at 60fps, so if you're trying to train with 60fpsv2newmod you likely to be unsuccessful.

I think I am using one of the oldest and cheapest AMD cpus that will allow you run 60fps reasonably, a Phenom II X2 560. It's overclocked from 3.3 Ghz to 3.6. Some places I need to turn off all of prib except the position board and I always have to turn off the internet meter (Alt+M).

In Gentlemen Liga they found that intel CPU users have to check the "disable intel speedstep" in GEM+ configuration!

Of course 60fpsV1 is the only way to run 69X  ;D

Some hints from SRMZ:

I'm seeing a difference in frame rate with and without the no letterbox patch. At Spa67 in the 69xs, I get a fairly steady 60fps without the no letterbox patch. With it, I'm seeing a lot of stutters and sometimes even dropping to 30fps because of vsync. I suspected this sooner but it hadn't been bad enough to actually test it.

And Axel's tip on the max mip size worked for me last Friday season in the Can Ams at Zolder. The GT's were undrivable the previous week because of a bad frame rate. With mapmipsize changed for the CAs I was able to run a decent race even though my dashboard was blurry.

Hmm... can't connect to the sever using the practice p/word.

I just joined, so no problem on server end.

That was a very exciting race! Decided to take the McLaren M9 with its superb straight line speed, even if its acceleration left something to be desired. For the first half of the race I had a terrific battle with Dean and Andreas. The McLaren's top end keeping me in the hunt even if they were all over me on the exits of corners. Sadly the engine didn't handle the abuse I was giving it, and became smoky at half distance.

After a shift-r and stop & go, I was well down the field and didn't make any ground. Bit galling but it's my own fault for ragging the engine so hard early on.

Congrats to Ray for the win and commiserations to Axel for running dry towards the end. See you all at the next one.

What a great turn-out.  :)  I've always struggled at Spa, so I decided to take a slower car - the Lotus 49.  I messed around with setups, and decided to run no front wing.  I was really hoping for 10th place, but ended up 11th.  I actually overtook somebody, but they were in an even slower car!  Looking forward to the next one.

I blew that one. It was a very good opportunity for a podium finish. I got the lead for a few seconds and immediately pressed my luck under braking. After the spin at La Source, I lost my focus and upshifted into Eau Rouge. I landed on wheels on the wrong side of the fence. I couldn't get out. That was disappointing so I didn't feel much like continuing needing a reset.

It was fun while it lasted. Axel was driving well. For 3 or 4 laps early in the race, I gave Axel plenty of room while also trying to push him faster down the straights. I got plenty of laps to see where our speeds differed on the course. I couldn't pass on the straights. About the time my front wheel was about to get even with his, his car would start moving further ahead of me. I was much faster into Les Combes and Blanchimont. It took me 4 or 5 laps to figure out the only place I had a chance to pass was outbraking Axel into one of those two turns. It took a while but I finally got my chance and it was at the better of the two places. My car was much better than Axel's from Blanchimont to Les Combes. He could make up all the time I gained in the turns on the straights. As I watched our laps times, I knew I couldn't go any faster in the lead. It would have been interesting to see how Axel would have made up the time with me in the lead, since I had a chance to open a small gap between Blachimont and Les Combes.


Damn, that could have given me the win. :lol: I was using much less fuel in the slipstream. That is a shame though. You deserved the win after I fell apart.

Had to fight with a not so speedy lotus.

I shifted bad and my engine blew. With cold tires i crashed in Masta
and my race was over.  ???

Some great racing after a mistake of my own making put me back in the pack. But as I said after the race, apologies to Andreas and Doni in particular. I was getting murdered on the straights as I tend to run higher wing settings (even on fast tracks) to give me better braking/speed through the corners. But that's no excuse for some of the hard passes, my bad guys. Doni I have no idea how you got out of that one without a shift-r. I owe you both.

Yeah, that race had everything in it! From start to finish alot of action was a goin` on. First I was for sure not amused about your move...But in the end it do not count that much. Second place in such a strong field of contenders, I can not ask for more!

Hi guys :).....I'm back after a bad internet problem :/......
So to come back to the race , just one question; where I can find 69 or 69x setups, Iknow only 2 cars in 69 mod  :'( .....and I'm a little lost whith all thoses cars whith or whithout wings.....and we must use a different car hitch race ....

The most popular winged cars actually have pretty good default setups for the circuits raced in '69.
If you pick a car and get stuck just use one of those setups and modify it (that's what I do for a starting point)  :)

The slower stuff (Non winged and slowest) don't seem to have as good setups - I don't even know where you would find them so I've been massively guessing throughout the last season!
