Post by: Cookie on October 19, 2015, 12:48:06 PM +0100
Season 29 - Friday F2 Trophy - Round 2 - Indianapolis Oval

The third race will be at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the worlds most famous oval race track.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway officially opened with balloon races June 5, 1909, followed by motorcycle races Aug. 14 and automobile races Aug. 19.
The inaugural Indianapolis 500-Mile Race was held May 30, 1911 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, cementing the importance auto racing would have in shaping Indianapolis' economy and image.

In S29 we will race F2 and Sport Car mods alternating.
This Trophy is intented as a fun series, so keep the fairness high and respect drivers with different skills.  ;)

Handicapping:
Heavies - have allways free car choice.
Lights   -  each F2 car can be used only once! Only one GT can be used twice!
Any illegal use of a car will be a DQ! So make shure you have a plan ;)

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.
ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.

Please check the Season 29 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=508&theme=6) regarding rules and the Friday Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=515&theme=6) pages in particular.

Would love to drive this one, but can't :( . I'll be drinking Belgian special beer with mates. Unfortunately after that, I become Pastor Maldonado behind the wheel.

For me this race was the festival of incident.3 but anytime with the car restarting.

Francesco,

I don't understand why you always tried to break the tow with the following car and, for that reason, you were driving from left to the right and from the right to the left of the track.
I think (just my point of view) it is better to combine our efforts to reduce the gap with the leading cars...

Of course, when there are only 2 or 3 laps to go, then you could drive in that way.
But why doing that with 30 or 40 laps to go ?

About our incident on lap 8, I will look at the replay, but I remember I was trying to overtake you on the right as you were on the center of the track, when suddenly you went on the right.
With the wall, I couldn't do anything to avoid the crash.
Maybe, you didn't see me on your mirrors ?

For this kind of race, I was driving with the F10 view, which is a great help for so close driving.

During this race, I had 2 violent crashs (on lap 5 with a car on the back, and on lap8 with Francesco) but I didn't need any reset   :o
I was very lucky !

In my opinion is not true,i have always given you space to alternating the position,in this way we could have a tow.
What is not understandable is the ovrtaking attempt into a curve by Cedejas when is more easy and safe on the streght.

About our incident your position was unespected, normally after the curve i went in a position near the wall.

Despite a win, this F2 event was largely a disappointment for me.  I had practice sufficiently to be confident of keeping up in my little Lotus 41 but realized, too, that it didn't have the top end for some of the other cars.  Still, with the slipstream, it would be relatively easy to hang onto the pack.  In qualifying, I got a splendid tow from Dean to snag pole.  Most unexpected but welcome.  My chances of hanging onto the pack increased exponentially.  :)

Off the start, I dropped positions to the Protos cars but settled into a comfortable P3 catching the breeze off Axel and Dean.  Lordy!  Lap05 and a BIG shunt between these two left me to scamper through to the lead and from there on in, I pulled David C by about a second per lap.  My only source of data is the pit board so at any time, I fully expected to see that DC's place in the order would be supplanted by the likes of Axel, Dean or Greg but it just never happened.  As it turned out, all three of these hotshots were gone by Lap18 with assorted problems.  Not until I got inside 15 laps to go with a safe 30 second lead did I believe that it was really on for the win.  No way was I going to be caught now slipstream or no.  I went to my cruise gear and just settled in for the duration.  I came across Carlos around Lap35 and got a waveby.  TY, CC.  Carlos' connection did not look very good.  His Lotus was bouncing about fearfully and I didn't want to stick around him long.  However, with the slipstream, CC closed and passed to unlap himself.  At this point, not wishing to get into a dust up with his edgey car, I just trailed him into the finish.  With a couple of laps to run, I noted a green car in my mirrors closing in.  Fearing that this might be for position due to a GPL scoring error, I upped the pace moderately to keep a gap and got home just ahead of it.  Turns out it was Fran a lap down and chasing Carlos.  You never can be too sure in such cases and better safe than sorry.

Disappointed to have not had a chance to really duke it out with a pack of snarling F2 cars.

The GT Big Iron @ Indy next week!  :)

Congrats Doni, Dave, and Dave!

It's all about the slipstream. After a collision I ran few laps alone and decided to retire. Imo, this is the worse mod for this track. The GTs ought to be more interesting. They'll be like high class Nascar. :)

Fran and I collided coming out of T4. I had a good chance to pass and possibly pick up some tow from the lead pack. I watched the replay to see what happened thinking Fran may have moved over on me. It doesn't look like he did. Both of our steering wheels remain straight. I noticed after a few laps in the GTs. Once you come out of T4 you need to turn a little right to remain the same distance from the wall. A subtlety I didn't know. I knew I needed to stay off the wall or I'd surely bounce back into Fran. All I could do is wish Fran would have been another foot or two further to the left.

I'm sorry Francesco, i apologize. Next time i ll be more careful and wait for the right moment.  :(

I was also slowdown by three accidents in front of me. The 1st one i just saw Greg's car nose and helmet coming to me. The 2nd one was when Francesco and Rainier touched and i was behind. And the 3rd one don't remember but could not avoid it. Fortunately the car never broke.

On last lap, i think i came out of T4 better than Francesco and could pass him for 4th place. As I crossed the finish line up side down and do a shift r to see what had happened, the energy power went down, fiu.... I had a great great time, never done Indianapolis before on any mod, i'm not an oval fan, but this one i like it a lot.

See you all next race with GT's

Cheers to all!!!!   :)

No problem Carlos, could happen. The only problem is the unjust penaltyfor me, since from the replay(gear box of Reinier)is clearly visible that your Lotus shift to the right with the tail hitting my front wheel.
At least a "racing incident"could be accettable.

The move of Carlos's car is not relevant! Maybe caused by the crashboxes...

If there were no "shift", Fran would have collided anyway!
The nose was still directed to the inside where Carlos was!
