Season 29 - CHAMPIONSHIP 69X  : ROUND 3 - SILVERSTONE (Papy track)

For Round 3 we return to Silverstone, the Home of British Motorsport. Silverstone hosted the very first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1950 and although the circuit layout has changed over the years, the variant of the track we will race on tonight is practically the same as the original 1950 layout. The only real difference is the pit lane. In fact the track was used in this form until 1975.  Silverstone witnessed dozens of spectacular races during this period not only Formula 1 but also sports cars and motorcycles.

After 2 races, Tim is leading the championship followed by Andreas and Axel. …but we are waiting for Rouen race moderation.
The race will be run under INT rules and you can do one Shift+r  (only one) followed by a stop and go in the pits (Stop and Go must be taken within two laps of the incident unless on the last lap when a time penalty will be added).

We will use the patch : 60fpsV1 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/).

Race List =   IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at IGOR
Race date = 08-11-2015
Qualification Time   = ~21:00  UK time -> 30min
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Track = SILVERSTONE (standard papy)
Variant = 69X
60fps patch used = 60fpsV1
Damage Model = INT
Race length = 34 laps
Replay = you will get here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season29/69Xtra/)

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Password: see above (#post_event_password)
(2) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=509&theme=6)

and remember :

Drivers will have a free car choice
BUT
Each car can be driven only once in this season!

Moderation : no more red zone, only reported incidents will be moderated.

Have FUN !

OK, I know that you'll be not wanting to help me drive better in the race, but does anyone have any good setups?  I can't d/l them from the track database (dunno why), and I can't find a driveable setup with more than 8 / 10 degrees wing.   ::)

I don't think I've driven much worse than tonight.  I was over 0.6 seconds slower than my PB in qualy, ending up 13th.  Arrived at the crash scene and gently bumped into the side of a BRM, then was obliterated by two cars from behind - smoke / flames.  Reset, took my S&G at the end of the lap, and somehow ended up 18th.. ?  Ploughed the usual lonely furrow, kept spinning off.  Hopeless.  >:(

sorry again guys for the chaos(second time) at the start, I am very sorry that my accident has affected the performance of other drivers. After a good qualifying, I thought only to be prudent and to maintain the position.Piero is not a good start ,I continually looking to the left , I found myself  at T1 first position , with the best path, I made the curve being inside, but  when I was accelerating , nearly save, I flew away   triggering the usual chaos. I can not say what happened to my brother, I think he's come long at T1,  and he did not have full control, possibly due to a slight touched on grass ,and surely a big wrap (min 1.00.00) because his car jumps to the right, and  he touched me.

Not a very nice race for me.

At the start, when i saw a struggeling car i hit the brakes coming to a complete stop (although I hit a car with slow speed) and got bumped from behind even a bit harder.

I didn't watch the rpy yet but later in the race one of the meracaldos hit me out in the first corner, later Doni crossed my line when overtaking so we had wheel contact and later pushed me out as well.

Thats my feeling before watching the rpy - didn't have time yet. maybe i correct my Pov later in the evening.

To be fair to many peoples view Pieros' car would have jumped - he either put a wheel on the grass or simply stood on the throttle too quick for cold tires when exiting T1, which did result in him slewing to the right slightly before regaining control.
I just got lucky this time as I was close enough to both see it happening and avoid it, and as luck would have it was even between them in effect when they hit.

A shame, I did some work on last seasons Ferrari setup which clearly worked as I appeared to have the fastest car in the race - I'd have rather worked for the win though. :(

Congrats go to Andreas and Ronnie for filling the podium and all of the survivors  :)

I'm not trying excuses, at Rouen I confirmed my mistake...

You confirmed ONE of your mistakes (the being in neutral for eight full seconds). The moderators have determined that it was not worthy of a penalty. I even agreed to that, though I think the dispensation should have a limit (maybe two or three seconds, tops). Anyone who does not realize that their car is not moving for that amount of time HAS to bear some responsibility for the carnage that followed.

It's what happened after that that I have a serious problem with. Though the rules specifically state that any car rejoining the track MUST stay out of the way of other traffic, you didn't. You drove straight into the middle of the track, SLOWLY, and Bastian tried his best to get around you (as is his right). There was contact which I believe was mostly your fault, not Bastian's.

Quote
...I just expressed my point of view...

And that's EXACTLY what I'm doing here. DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?

Quote
...I do not understand what Logan has (sorry for the terms but it is he who insists)to break my balls...

ROFL. Hope you never deal with me in real life.  ;D

Quote
................lets you work the moderators  and  think of your ........ business...

The moderators WANT to hear different people's views. If you have a problem with the way things work here, find a different league.

Quote
...If u had not understood Piero it s my brother , you want to say that I want to blame him?????

Piero was blameless in both situations. He was well clear of the shenanigans at Rouen, and may well have recovered his half-spin at Silverstone IF YOU HADN'T DECIDED THAT YOU DESERVE 80% OF THE TRACK, and anyone who dares to use more than the 20% left over, well, "his car jumped to the right AND HE HIT ME BOOOOOO HOOOOOO".

Without stepping on the moderators' toes, IMO Marco could/should have given more room on the outside. But Piero also slightly loses control on the outside, corrrecting and then touching with Marco.

To me this is no simple black/white incident, but to me both have some responsibility here...Marco arguably more than Piero, since he is the one that tries to make a move...

On that note, Burt was practising on his own, as the server was full; he'd just re-installed GPL, and wasn't signed up, but might wish to in future? He joined the 65s this week, after setting up 60 fps etc. :P

Dean - if you have some time to review incidents and can assess it fairly from each driver's POV, then no doubt you'll make a good moderator.

Moderation published :  Opinion required when penalty will not fix the problem.  Incorrect stop & go was 30 seconds - now 5.  With this, you will have to check every driver, every race.

A reset in the pit happens in every League.  It needs a big discouragement.  When a driver of many years does this, there is an advantage.  5 seconds only is an advantage.  Bring back 30 seconds, or cause a wheel to fall off, for an extra stop.  :P

We already check pitstops for every driver and every races.

In Rouen, Marco didn't really stop and he had 30 seconds.
In Silverstone, it was not so clear for Clive, and for Greg he made the pitstop but before the reset, and before that he joins the pits at slow speed, I cannot see where is the advantage.

Greg is not a driver of many years in UKGPL. I did exactly the same mistake during my first (or 2nd) season here.
By the way, I could even give him a penalty of 4 laps if you prefer but it will not change anything.

No-one likes penalties.  It would be good if one penalty, stops the next penalty.  When they are good, they might be needed less. 8)

...No clear fault from Piero or Marco...

Really? See all that wonderfully clear, open, and SAFE space for Marco to be (like on the OTHER HALF OF THE TRACK)? Yeah, that's HIS screenshot, btw.  ::)

(http://www.paolinsrl.com/scp/03.jpg)

Doesn't the etiquette guide say that when you don't know exactly where the other guy is, to leave AT LEAST half the track width for them (which Piero did), until you're sure that it's safe? Wouldn't that have been a good idea, especially right at the start of the race when you know that any small incident can have MAJOR repercussions? Isn't that even up to the "bad decision which affects other's races" standard?

How many more races am I going to have to start lap 2 at the back of the field, 30 seconds or a minute behind the leaders (and my shift-r already spent on something I had nothing to do with), because "nobody did anything even the slightest bit wrong"?

Reconsidering my involvement with this championship, because recovery drives are not fun, and IMO moderations like that make the results meaningless, and only invite further carnage, and arguing, and "why am I getting penalized when X took out the entire field TWICE IN A ROW" pissing contests.

 >:(

Oh, it's the one from last week you're talking about.

I've been kind of waiting to see how this plays out, and as much as I'd like to offer what help I can (and still will, regardless), frankly, I'm not anxious to be associated with decisions like this (or Rouen). I'm at a loss to understand how there is "no clear fault" here, and would be completely unable to describe to anyone asking how this somehow promotes clean, fun racing, which is what I thought we were all here for.

Dean, every moderator has his "own style", and how much we try to be consistent with UKGPL Rules, there will always be different views and interpretations.

There was consensus about the start incident between Marco and Piero. We felt both could/should have given eachother more room, and/or be more cautious. Marco understeered/slid to the outside, and Piero slightly lost control at the exit (oversteer). Both cars moved to eachother. Therefore it was decided to be a contested side-by-side contact, racing incident...this was not a black/white incident with only one driver having responsibility...

It will depend on wings, tire pressures, gearing, and draft, but for an example, with (iirc) wings at 3 deg front/3.5 deg rear and tires at 23psi cold, I was getting 304kph at the end of the straights the last time I ran the MS80 in a race there.

Is that km/h or mph?

Are you sure you picked "Grand Prix", and not one of the trainer cars?
