Season 29 - Friday Sport Cars Trophy - Round 8 - Hockenheim 67

This race will be at Hockenheim the second german Grand Prix circuit.
The Hockenheimring was originally built in 1932 using roads in the forest, it  was almost eight kilometres long and consisted of two long straights with a long "Eastern" corner in the forest and a U-turn inside Hockenheim joining them together.
In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, a new version of Hockenheim circuit was built, with the "Motodrom" stadium section. After Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident, two fast chicanes were added and the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. A small memorial was placed near the first chicane, at the site of his accident. In 1982, another chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve), after Patrick Depailler was killed there in 1980; and the first chicane was made slower as well.
We race the 1967 version without the chicanes.

In S29 we will race F2 and Sport Car mods alternating.
This Trophy is intented as a fun series, so keep the fairness high and respect drivers with different skills.  ;)

Handicapping:
Heavies - have allways free car choice.
Lights   -  each F2 car can be used only once! Only one GT can be used twice!
Any illegal use of a car will be a DQ! So make shure you have a plan ;)

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.
ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.

Please check the Season 29 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=508&theme=6) regarding rules and the Friday Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=515&theme=6) pages in particular.

GPL quit towards the end of lap3.
Any ability was long gone by then anyway.

Did not expect (or really deserve) to win that one. After losing Cookie and the others  :( (you do all have Ginetto's patches for this track?), had a great fight with MJ. Lots of room given (and sometimes needed!!), swapping places 2/3 times a lap. Thought I'd given it away with a clumsy missed shift into the penultimate corner with 2 and a bit laps left, but Mark had his clumsy entering the stadium the next time around. That gave me a sniff of his draft on the last lap. Almost gave it right back again getting in too hot into the final corner, but held him off in a drag race to the line for the closest finish I've been involved for a while (0.04 seconds).

Yeah, bloody good race with DL there.  I was trying to figure out how to manage being second on the last lap but Dean's small mistake in the stadium and mine a lap later meant he was right in the right place at the right time.  Good fun anyway.

I noticed that we had four disconnects from the race at the exact same time.

...I was trying to figure out how to manage being second on the last lap...

My aim, too  :D. Might have been "interesting", both of us trying to get the other guy to go into Ostkurv first. Maybe next time.

Congrats Dean, Mark, and Doni!

It's a shame about all the discos.

I was pleased to be able to get some joy from driving again. I didn't expect to do well though. I took it easy most of the time.

I had a well tested Sebring setup. I made a decent guess on camber settings and I had just enough time to get the gearing close. I never thought about how slow the Mk 2B is off the line until I was slowing to stay behind Axel and Tom after starting. In no condition to race well, I tried to fall in line where I Qed. I came into Ostkurve a little too fast the first time. I clipped the sign on the left. I was a bit surprised when it sheared off my LR wheel. No problem though since it had no effect on anybody but me. :)

My vision still blurs so I was having trouble seeing my braking points and lines. I also noticed it takes me longer to look from one thing to another, such as looking at the tach, then the track, then the mirror or vice versa.

My apologies Fran. I wasn't able to see your car soon enough to avoid you. I think I looked from the tach to my braking point and didn't realize you were stopped until it was too late. On a better day, the odds of me hitting you would have been much lower.

Thanks for letting me race guys.
