Post by: Rainier on November 29, 2015, 02:13:02 PM +0000
Season 29 - CHAMPIONSHIP 69X  : ROUND 5 – MONZA 10K

Round 5 of our championship  will take place on the infamous Monza 10K circuit.
It’s the traditional Monza track with a banked oval which had been used for Formula 1 until 1961. Much of the race will taken in top gear & there will be plenty of opportunity for drafting.

After 4 races (and before East London moderation), Tim is leading the championship followed by Andreas and Tom.
The race will be run under INT rules and you can do one Shift+r  (only one) followed by a stop and go in the pits (Stop and Go must be taken within two laps of the incident unless on the last lap when a time penalty will be added).

We will use the patch : 60fpsV1 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/).

Here is a question. Is the standard of driving here at UKGPL really so bad that you stand more chance of finishing a random race online with Project cars or even F1205

Good luck to all still running.

Screen freeze - I was enjoying that too :(
Epic 4 way constantly changing battle for the lead up until that point.

Guess it'll be congrats to either Doni, Axel or Greg then  :)

Big sorry to you Ronnie! I braked a little earlier than normal but I guess the warping caught me off guard still :( . I got a screen freeze mid-race. Bad luck all round, although I got a good draft by somebody in a McLaren M9 in quali to start P11 :) . Unfortunately the warping was really bad and when there was a crash at Parabolica in lap 1 I took to the grass to avoid them and ended up in the hedge. After freeing myself I closed up on Ronnie until I messed up and we crashed :( . After that I moved up to P12 due to attrition and just when it looked like I was about to get a tow from someone, the PC froze up. Ah well.

Race with handicup, always suspected but very visible on this track. My car was without speed ,anyone can overtake me without the possibility to realize a tow due to a speed to low.I think that the problem, like other time ,is the potentimeter,i must find a solution otherwise stop with the races.

My race was hectic to say the least. Decided to take the good old Lotus 49, hoping the engine deficit would be compensated by the lack of rear wing and low weight. It wasn't.......but I did manage to keep in contention with a good tow  :).

Managed to be somewhere near the pointy end of the grid thanks to the tow in quali and when the race started, I even managed to lead half a lap early on  :o. Sadly not long after that me and Axel made contact and we both had a trip down the gravel at the Parabolica.

After recovering, with the slipstream long gone, I was slowly losing ground to the leaders and eventually Dave caught me in the Lotus 49b with that lovely new DFV. We had an excellent battle that lasted most of the race. Old vs. New and it was action packed! Unfortunately my shifter played silly-beggars and the blip of neutrals out of the Lesmos blew my engine  :(.

Recovering from that and a stop in the pits, demoted me to 7th, which then resulted in battle with Marco to the finish. Just about managed to hang onto 6th place  :).

Congrats to Doni for the win and podium finishers  :).

Congrat Doni and Axel! Great job surviving to the finish.

That was fun. I'm still a bit more erratic than I like. I was pleased I didn't cause any real trouble. I had at least two moments that I was lucky to avoid contact. I lost track of where Sam was early in the race and cut down on him on one of the bankings. I got lucky I didn't take one or both of us out.  :-[ I'm not sure if I bumped Tim or not entering Parabolica just before he discoed. I was a little late braking and narrowly avoided a catastrophe. It was shame Tim was discoed shortly after that.

I got lucky to get PP. I gained an easy second in the tow. The M9A is fast on the straights. I saw 205mph/330 kmh several times. The thing would probably go faster with a longer 5th gear. :) The heavy beast doesn't inspire confidence entering Curva Grande or Parabolica though.

I tried to be cautious. I'm still not quite up to the task though. I did a nice job getting through the traffic when Axel got too ambitious entering Parabolica. I passed Tim once going into Curva Grande. As soon as I did that. I thought, I shouldn't pass him here. I'd guess his performance was likely superior to mine in that turn. After that I decided it's best to stay in 3rd and hope Tim and Doni quit battling so maybe we can stay ahead of a 4th place Axel. I hope I didn't surprise Axel too much when I braked too heavily for Curve Grande to let Tim and Doni pass me. For the rest of the race, I tried to take it easy. But I couldn't resist battling with Axel for a few laps later.

Late in the race, I spun again at Parabolica. It wasn't a good move entering on the right since I hadn't practiced it. I was glad Doni and Axel could avoid me. I was able to come back again though, but I had a lapse in concentration at Ascari on the last lap and clipped the guard rail. :( I had made it back into position to make it a 3 way battle for the win. I did a stop and go on the last lap. I couldn't remember the rules regarding last lap resets or understand them exactly. From reading the rules, I'm under the impression I didn't need to do the last lap stop&go but I would be assessed a time penalty. I hope I don't lose 3rd place because because I did a s&g that wasn't required?

Thanks for the racing guys. I hope to see you next time.

BUGGY 69X MOD!

Same horror scenario like Rouen for me lots of cars warping like crazy after the start and then I was nearly alone for the next laps...
After 3 laps I was suddenly back fighting for 5th position ::)

IMO  this has to do with a bug in the MOD giving same (#12) numbers to 2 drivers! (Bob and Ray)
For the import this causes an extra hour to get it sorted...

Luckily it seems you can not collide with "ghost cars"  ::)

Sorry Sam for the bump after my faulty braking inside the Para

I had a good recovery run to close up to the top three,
my tactics into the last banking did not work and Doni was the winner, grats!

PS
I modified Deans faulty quali time but had to keep the 1st position!

Ugh, first laps were brutal laggy, half the field jumping all over the place, and some disappearing for stretches at a time (I think I saw Cookie for a total of maybe 10 seconds between the start and Para, where I proceeded to outbrake myself and lose a lot of places/time).

Didn't do myself any favours after that, either, several unforced errors, thought I capped them off with punting Bas into Lesmo2 (I'm gonna report that, was impatient and sloppy, and harmed other's races, too), only to clip the 2nd bit of armco at Ascari (kept forgetting about that :P ) and spin trying to get past a recovering Sam layer on. 2 seconds of patience would have had me realizing that he was headed to the pits anyway.

...I did a stop and go on the last lap...

I believe that rule is there due to most tracks having the pits and startline together, where doing a s&g on the last lap is less of a penalty. As Monza10k is a different layout, I'd report myself, explain that an equally time-costly (compared to any other lap) s&g was performed, and appeal to the mercy of the court. On the other hand, it is only one position, so up to you.

grats to finishers and podium.

started in the middle of the pack and through guts & determination, bit by bit and one place at a time, managed to end up dead last. One mistake too many and it was all over. fun while it lasted :)

I had a 1m45s lap (or something stupid like that) in practice. I crash at the bridge before ascari very hard, car sticks in wall, and when I reset im up on banking so missing out half the track. I recons similar happened here.

Just like Sam I opted for the wingless Lotus 49, hoping that the low drag would give me some serious straight line speed, which seemed to work. So once I had the gearing sorted I was pulling close to 200mph on full tanks without a tow.
I was not too bothered about quali position as I was relying on Lap 1 carnage somewhere and as long as I could pick up a tow with my super high ratio 5th, I should be able to stay with the pace.

Well that all that planning went up in smoke just before the start, when I realised that i was carrying about 4 galls too much fuel for the race. Spent too much time adjusting the fuel load and hit the button to join grid  :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: " Race starting!!"

This just has to be the worst ever track to start from the pits!!  You are already half a lap back from the start line and have a 20 second wait to even get moving!  As a result I was showing as 2.5miles behind after 1 lap  :-\ :-\

I think it was Bob Whitwell who also started in pit lane, but I think I had slightly more speed and once he had made a small mistake and dropped out of the slipstream I gradually pulled away. It was a very lonely race for the first 10 laps until I caught a few stragglers and gained the odd place through retirements ahead. With 2 laps to go I was up to 10th place, which considering my handicapped start was as much as I could expect.
Then I got hit by legacy of the pitlane start on the last lap. I had worked things out on getting a tow for 50% of the race and saving fuel, but with less than half a lap to go I ran out of gas. I think running alone at 100% throttle and having to drive that extra half lap at the start ruined my economy.

Huge grats to Doni, Axel and Greg. Looks like it was an epic battle up front.

WOOHOO!  Got lucky and emerged the victor in this barn burner!

Lucky?  Oh, sure...  In a late lap, I drifted wide on the exit of the North Banking and drilled the grail...HARD.  Under Pro Rules, that would have taken a corner off.  I veered away and skirted the verge on the right and came within a blink of losing the McLaren.  Somebody up there likes me.  :)

A dramatic finish and I thought for sure that Axel was going to gun me down coming off the South Banking and the run to the flag.  He came up a mere 8/100 short.  Great race, buddy!

And I could just weep for poor Greg.  This was his race to win/lose.  Only a slightly wide pass through the Vialone in a late lap and the resultant crash spoiled his chances.  GT...  You ran like a champ!  Good on ya.

Dean's pole position apparently resulted from a reset during a test start procedure late in qualifying that confused GPL and eliminated that need to do the road course portion of the circuit.  Goofy but I've seen this before here.

Apologies to Sam for diving underneath him at the Parabolica in an early lap that forced him wide.  I should have known better to test my braking power there.  While there was no collision, it set the stage for a side-swiping by Axel that pushed Sam off.  Bad luck there, SB.

Not much to tell beyond the whole 22 laps were real nail-biters with constant back-and-forth action.  Sorry to have lost Tim at some point with a disco.  OH!  I just remembered...  The first several laps were a nightmare of lag.  Dean was directly ahead of me on that first lap and til he fell off in the Parabolica, his Ferrari was blinking in and out like a wild thing.  I kept my distance for fear of running over him.  After that, it took a couple more laps for the lag bar to settle down.  I fully expected to get disco'd myself but managed to survive.

Not to be missed in this event was race # 1,001 in Evil Clive's UK career across all sim platforms and his 837th start in GPL races.  I stumbled across this fact just before yesterday's race and didn't have the opportunity to offer up congratulations at the close of qualifying.  What a trooper!  :)  These stats are available on the championship pages by accessing the "Top 25 drivers by participation" link seen there.  Once again, congratulations, Clive!

Yeah Doni, you had this little advantage in acceleration of the lighter M7 out of the banking  ;)

IMO the lag and warp comes from the double #12 driver what is a bug in 69X mod!
The server can't handle the #12 on 2 different places at the same time...
All went fine when #12 Bob retired after 4 laps!

Maybe we have to limit the grid for the next races or do a check in quali if there is a double #12, maybe a rejoin can cure this ???

I'm 95% certain I was actually behind you when you did that Greg - I think we both got caught out by a stronger draft or something as we both ended up in the sandpit for no reason ;D
I was annoyed with my self for that - Less annoyed than when the screen froze half a lap later though  :(

Sorry for inadvertently causing the issues, I may have been the last to join.

I wasn't looking fwd to this one too much and had no time for praccy, so decided to take a 'cheap' car.  Took a look at the records and saw that the BT24 was actually reasonably fast, faster than the Matra 84...or so the records show.  One major flaw was that Iestyn had set the time for the Brab, but I didn't have time to mess around so committed to the decision and joined with no set-up.  I was hoping that the def setup would be good to start with, as often seems to be the case with other tracks/cars, but no.  Even the gearing was ridiculous, sorry if I'm slating anyone involved, I can appreciate the BT24 is probably rarely driven so perhaps they just copied one from another track...Monaco perhaps.

I even missed the start fuelling-up and was glad Clive's had had the same bad luck, even more so that he too was in a wingless car.  I could just about stay in the tow for the first 10 laps, but had an off and Clive was gone.  I made a few places as others retired, but a dull race that I almost dropped out of.  Out of the tow I was getting about 190mph down the straights.  Won't be taking the BT24 again until at least next season  :P

No need to weep Doni. It was great to be closer to normal again. I wouldn't say it was my race to win or lose, but I had moved back into position to challenge for the win. You saw me multiple times try to beat Axel to the line but the M9A wouldn't do it like the Lotus 49 would. :) I got real close one time though.

Congrats Clive! The Ironman!

I wondered how Dean did that. I thought it may have been spectacular crash that led to him landing on the wrong part of the track.

My apologies Axel. I did the same to you as I did to Sam. I dropped down on the banking too close in front of you. Prib reading 12 yds/m behind wasn't quite enough distance to be doing that safely. I'll try to remember that. It looks I should get at least 15 m before moving over on the banking.

Doni and Axel disappeared twice while I was trying to catch them. The first time I thought both of you had discoed. The second time, which was on my fast lap, I came out of Parabolica and both of you were gone. I didn't gain any extra speed that time down the pit straight. Just before I entered the banking you both reappeared ahead of me on the banking. I worried my connection might have been poor but I often used Alt+L during the race and my Q was always near .990 and my latency never changed from between .190-.200. Axel, I've wondered if the 69xs with a full grid is too demanding? I also wonder if I could be the cause. Occasionally my latency gets pretty high when I'm near Doni or Dean.

Thanks again guys.

The server has no higher demand from 69X as from any other mod!
It has 4GB (3.2GB used for XP 32bit system and 512 for GPU) DDR2 Ram and I did swich off C&Q and let the CPU run in full speed 3000MHz as I had seen some cars warping in pre race practice ;)

We had the same at Rouen when I stopped the server after 1 lap  :o
I saw most other cars jumping around after the start and after half the first lap I was left alone for the next 3 laps with pribluda showing me in the lead with 4 drivers behind. When Ray left I was suddenly back in the normal race and back in 5th position.

IMO it is impossible for me to warp on my server as It is next door ::)

So the only clue for me is that the server uses the #number for the position of a driver,
if there are doublettes it tries to correct this and gets confused...

It was an action-loaded Race.
Have to take a look on the rpy on the weekend.

Bad luck for Evil to run out of fuel, but grats for the 1000 Races !

Here's a fix for the double number appearing on 69x races:

www.grandprixlegends.co.nf/files/drvc69.ini

Download the new drvc69.ini and place in the root GPL folder. EVERY server hosting 69x has to do this, although for fun races with less attendance it's probably not as problematic, as the bug only occurs when the grid is already filled with 16 drivers.

End users / racers don't have to do anything.

TECHNICAL BABBLE:

The server takes it's starting numbers from the AI lineup drvc69.ini. This file had both Jacky Ickx and Pedro Rodriguez with starting number 12. I've changed Ickx' number to 7, which was unused in the generic drvc69.ini.

I still have my doubts if this fixes the connection problems, but it's worth a try anyway.

Tommie.

Thanks Tommie  :thumbup2:

I think this will fix the problem, as I am shure to not have connection problems to my server :punk:

69x fun race to test?  ;)

Yes, of course!

Tuesday 15th or Sunday 20th Dec ;D

We need an easy track that attracts most drivers ;)

So I propose to take Monza10k or Rouen again, as the troubles happened there...

Hang fire, I'll sort that.  The button will be back in a few seconds.  Fill your boots, I'll remove the button in a couple of days.
