Title: UKGPL Season 29 (2015-16) Historic Trophy (66) - Rouen - Dec 1
Post by: Phil Thornton on November 29, 2015, 04:57:02 PM +0000
Season 29 Historic Trophy - Round 5 – Rouen

The fifth race in the Historic series takes us to Rouen in France.  From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

All races will be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/).

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

This race is for cars with 3 Litre engines.

Race List = IGOR

Replay will be here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season29/Historics/)

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Driver lists and rules (please note the rules for the Historics are different this season) can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=512&theme=6)

Please Note: Drivers have to use at least 1 car from each of the groups (Group I, Group II and Group III on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=512&theme=6)).  Some drivers have already used 2 Group III cars (Ronnie, Philippe and Bastian) which only leaves 3 races for them to use a Group I and Group II car.

gpl crashes to desktop with 66mod using 60 fpsnewmod. I use 3d3v2 and win 8.1
66 works fine at 36fps and 60fpsnew mod has worked with other mods. I have re-installed the mod, verson1.
any ideas/help welcome.

Hi Gareth

I've just checked and your registration has been processed so you should be able to see the password.

WRT the CTD try OpenGL V2 and 60fpsv2newmod

That combination should work - it does for me on Win7

Thanks for that Phil.

Tried all check boxes, all ctd with 60 fps new mod using 66 mod. maybe I have to sit this one out :(

edit: after installing the 66 mod update all is well. thanks Tommie.

Gareth try 60fpsv1 - there should be a guide somewhere on here for making the transfer to 60fpsv2newmod, but until recently we were using v1 as a lot of us couldn't get v2newmod working with 66s. It was an issue with the patch application orders I think (the newer installs didn't seem to have the trouble).

Gareth: as ID said, the order the patches are applied apparently makes a difference. FWIW, I use OGLv2 so that Prib works (it doesn't like D3Dv2, afaik).

Mods: knowing which upcoming races are for 2L and which are for 3L would help in the chassis planning dept., especially with the various groups restriction this season. Thanks.

edit: sorry, list of 3L races is in this season's Monza race thread here: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=13335.msg240448#msg240448.

Finally some point,a good race with no incident. The only incident was the release of the steering wheel  from the table when i was in the second curve after the start and with Andreas behind. Not a good feeling to drive with the steering w. in the hands and free.

Not my finest hour. Must apologise to Axel for our coming together at Six-Freres. I went for a gap that was too opportunistic in hindsight. You were clearly pre-occupied with other cars. Glad too see you were able to continue. After that, it was an error-strewn run to 5th place. Congrats to Trist, Tom and Dean  :).

 Yup, thanks.  :D

Back on topic: that has to be the tensest race I've ever had, with some of the closest racing (without contact, unbelieveably imo, in some cases  :o) I've seen. Thought I had a good shot at 2nd for a few laps, until I Marco'd (unintentional neutral in the hairpin  ;)), and that let Tommie by. Could stay with him, but without a mistake, couldn't get by, and then when he started picking up draft from lappers, couldn't close on him sufficient for last-lap lunge somewhere. But any race I'm only 2 seconds behind a winning Tris has to count in my "good" ones.  :)

Sorry to Phil,

I drove over your wheel.
I was watching what you are doing and slided a bit too wide and missed my own Line.
It was quite a bit of space when GPL recognized a collision.

Later in the race, my engine exploded.

Hi Bastian
I submitted an incident report with a client replay.  Please do the same (if you have saved your reply - I hope you have).  Where there is warp involved the client replays are a big help to the moderator (although I'm the divisional moderator for this division I won't be moderating this incident, another moderator will do it).

Bad luck with the engine, I suspect this incident contributed to the engine damage.  Your car was a ball of flames on my client replay :o
Regards
Phil

The moderating team will mighty pleased to see that.  An easy race to moderate with some very happy drivers, it doesn't get any better  ;)

Hi Phil,  unfortunately i just watched it on the fly after my engine burn out.

Some thing i still don't understand. Due to connections difference and the age of this simulation,
everyone seems to drive his "own race" in a certain way - with slight difference to the master (server) which causes this warps and collisions that aren't collisions ?

Also, the clients seem to make their own decisions which are not correct. like phils gpl decided my engine to explode already at the crash and server did not ?

are these thoughts correct ?

Best Regards,
Bastian

Bastian, you allways race on your own GPL install, you use the physics of your PC.
Your PC gets the position of the opponent from the server 15 times per second,
if there is a lag in this info, your GPL will compute its position by itself for the next fraction of a second.
When it gets the correct next info the opponents car will do a sudden jump (warp) to its real position.
Big problem is if a driver looses contact to the server for more than some fractions...

Despite trying a car that I rarely use  ( the BRM ) and developing a setup during quali, I was reasonably happy with my pace. Well, I was for the first laps.

Then I started to push things a little, because I could see opportunities ahead. Ronnie was in a similar car and there were others tantalisingly just out of range.

That was when the weak point in my hastily contrived setup showed itself and the front tyres overheated. This gave me a very twitchy BRM at mid corner and I found myself wrestling with the over/under steer on the exits.
I even tried easing off for a few laps to try and bring temps back under control, but that all ended when the engine went very quiet.  :-\

Grats to the quick guys and the podium. Nice to see a relatively clean race with a big grid  ;D Let's keep it that way ;)

thx for the detailed explanation.

Is my second thought also correct (engine failure)?

Yes there can be 3 different interpretations of the result of a crash  ::)
What really happened to your engine only your own GPL rpy tells,
the server gets a signal of a collision with an impact and handles the signal to Phils PC wich makes it's own interpretation :o

Bastian

There is a web page (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/warp) in the rules that describes warp and how warp can be considered a mitigating factor in apportioning blame in an incident.

My client replay of the incident is here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Y5yeIvfzZvUW45aExGQ1JYMnc/view?usp=sharing).  I think you will find it is different to your replay ;).
